BIG BROTHER BRINGS BACK LIVE FEED & GIVES 1000 FREE PASSES TO FANS

Channel 4 is to bring back 24 hour live streaming from the Big Brother House for its final series which starts on June 9th. The move will give viewers the ultimate reality experience, literally enabling them to follow the action in the house as it happens, around the clock.

Live streaming of the house (see notes below) will be accessible via the official Big Brother site www.channel4.com/bigbrother. Viewers will pay a small fee to access the footage; 49p for a day pass; £1.99 for a week pass; and £14.99 for a season pass for the whole 13 week series. The money generated through the sales of passes will cover some of the costs it takes to run the streaming.

As a nod to the fans who have watched and supported the show for the past ten years Channel 4 is giving away 1000 free season passes for the feed. The giveaway will begin at 7pm on Tuesday 8th June, the day before the show launches live on Channel 4. Fans will need to register on the official Big Brother website (channel4.com./bigbrother) at this time and if they are one of the first 1000 registrations received they will be given a free pass.

Channel 4 Commissioning Editor, David Williams said
"Years ago streaming on line was less popular due to the limitations of technology, however now we know that the vast majority of fans will have access to broadband and are very active online. This is a great way of Channel 4 giving the fans the all-access action that they want, and thanking them for following the show for the past eleven years. "

The live feed will start from the very first night (exact time TBC), once the new housemates are all in the house.

In addition to the online streaming there will be live streaming on television in the afternoons on E4 and overnight on E4 and Channel 4, as occurred for Celebrity Big Brother 7 in January. Other TV programming includes E4's ultimate fanzine show Big Brother's Little Brother and the late-night Big Brother's Big Mouth hosted by Davina following each live eviction.

Sorry, but they're right to impose such restrictions, BB's not a children's show (as I was saying to annoyed mums here and on D.S. complaining about the timeslot last year despite it being the show's natural and oldest home).

They are these dummy credit cards you can register for and top up in shops like phone credit. No contracts, no bank thingys, no bills. You just top it up in shops and use it like you would with any other credit card. Get one!

I have been using them to buy from eBay for ages now.

So when you register, you are signing up for a fee. If you happen to be one of the first 1000 you don't get billed? Is that how it is going to work?

Patrick
04-06-2010, 11:33 AM
Yes, that's exactly it :)

The button will go live at 7pm, so make sure you refresh your browsers and hit that sign up button as fast as you possibly can!

They are these dummy credit cards you can register for and top up in shops like phone credit. No contracts, no bank thingys, no bills. You just top it up in shops and use it like you would with any other credit card. Get one!

I have been using them to buy from eBay for ages now.
OMG A Free 20 Quid voucher?
Awesome, thanks Stu.

How long does it take to come in the post? Like would it be here before Tuesday?

Will probably open for registration straight after the launch. And t'isnt. There's always ustream or justin tv or using someone elses. Personally don't mind paying but I too will be on here after launch trying to blag a free pass.

Isn't it on Tuesday at 7PM not the launch night itself.

Someone will probably stream the live feed illegally on justin.tv. So I'm sure people who don't want to pay will find some way to watch it.

How do we know if we won? Like would they need Credit Cards or anything or would it not be needed then seeing as we won.

What I am assuming is the sign up will be free.

Such as last year, you could sign up to the site for free to post comments and so forth, so what I think will happen is you will sign up for free, and the first 1,000 to sign up will be emailed by channel 4 to say they were the first 1,000 and they will get a free pass

Other than that, there will have to be an extra sign up for the live streaming, as the signup will have to be "secure" due to the fact it will be handling bank card/credit card details.

I rarely watch live feed anyway, I have a life...you can be a BB fan without being stuck in 24/7 watching it you know.

Would be pointless me paying to watch it a couple of times through the series

I was joking, though I do believe it's true, and you (and a lot here) are missing the point behind the argument. None of us are planning to watch it 24-7 we just want the option to, we just want to be able to tune in whenever and it be on, it was the main selling point of the show's first 2 series and is the whole idea behind the format.

The last time ch4 provided a 24/7 feed on the official site was for BB8 - it cost £10 for the whole series, with no daily options etc.

I think it is the best we could have hoped for - £15 is nothing for 24/7 for the last ever BB, considering it was not exactly expected that there would be any at all!

I will def buy it, if i miss out on a freebie, those freebies are an excellent idea too!

I think we should be thankful that we have full 24/7 feed online, whatever the cost or conditions

- the last BB as suddenly got very much better!

I suspect you'd have to be very dense to be unable to recoup £15 over the course of a season - you can use live-feed to become one step (day) ahead of the game on gambling markets for evictions (ie to see what will eventually turn-up on the HL show and guess how the public are likely to react/vote).

At an even more basic level, there are gambling markets for "walkout" and "ejected" this week and you can use use live feed to bang the bets-in before the market has reacted.

Another example was BB7 when Paddypower unwisely opened a market "Will Ais wear THAT blue dress on finals night?". If you were watching Live Feed about the time they opened this market, Richard had just told her to avoid it like the plague as he's heard from the house next door it was being ridiculed by the outside world. So you just wapped £500 into "no" for free money.

Evictions have been a nice little earner for me since BB7 - I'd estimate about £35k since I started. It is becoming too well known as an easy way to fleece housewives of the housekeeping money, and C4 keep messing things up so you've got to be fast and careful

FROM CHANNEL 4/BIG BROTHER:

Late Night Streaming
E4 will be providing some late night streaming. For scheduling details check our TV Listings page http://www.channel4.com/tv-listings

Sound Dips
On occasion, during our late night streaming, we may need to cut the sound, as with any programme shown on TV, the output has to adhere to Ofcom's Broadcasting Code. The cuts are made for a number of reasons, the most common being:

Music
As you may know, all modern music is copyrighted, and any use of such music in a TV programme - however brief - needs to be cleared with the holder of the rights and a payment made for its use. Some music will be specially cleared in advance for inclusion in the main Big Brother shows - such as the 'wake up' music or music that is played for a task or for a party - but will not have been cleared for Streaming. During these, sometimes prolonged, times we have no choice but to dip the sound for the duration the music is playing.

But this rule doesn't just apply to published music - it also extends to any music 'performance' and this includes all singing, humming, whistling and any music played on instruments by the Housemates.

Privacy Issues
Housemates sign contracts allowing Big Brother to show them 'warts and all', but this may not necessarily extend to very personal and sensitive or medical information that bears no relevance to the other Housemates or to the Big Brother game. Any mention of such detail will be cut out of respect for the Housemate's intimate privacy.

Equally critical is what we call Third Party Privacy. Housemates often talk about friends, family, colleagues or former employers, and while some of this information may be deemed innocuous and harmless, we would mostly cut this type of information as those parties have not given consent for personal information to be disclosed on television - though it does depend on context. If, for example, a generic, non-offensive and well-meaning remark is made about a parent, or something said about an un-named, un-identifiable friend or relative, then it may be deemed fine for broadcast.

Libel
Libel or defamation may arise when a comment is made about an individual, or a company or its products/services which would tend to make a reasonable person think less of them as a result. At worst, this may be an allegation that they have acted in a criminal way, or it may be a much less serious suggestion, for example, that they have lied, acted dishonourably or been hypocritical. It is therefore very important to identify when such comments are made and remove them accordingly in line with the Ofcom Broadcasting Code.

Due Impartiality and Undue Prominence of Views and Opinions
All Housemates are entitled to express themselves, including their beliefs and opinions - but we have to carefully monitor for balance. For example, if a Housemate or Housemates should decide to use their time on Big Brother as a soapbox for extreme, one-sided and/or political views, for example, then the audio may need to be cut at such times. However, if the views and opinions are balanced by those of other Housemates, then they may be fine to show.

Commercial References
As you may know, the production team go to great lengths to cover brand names on food and household products used in the House, and cover up any prominent brands on clothing. But should a Housemate, for example, try to pitch themselves as the new face of a leading cosmetics company by always using their products in full view around the House, or constantly mentioning one particular brand in a promotional way, then we would also need to cut this in accordance with Ofcom's Broadcasting Code.

Cool :). If you don't mind me asking, could you please answer a couple of questions about online live feed:

1. Will there be any adverts during the online live feed?
2. Will there be soundips before 9pm if there is swearing on the online live feed?

Thank you :)

1. Tbc - not as I'm aware
2. Yes

Do we get to apply for the 'free stream' specifically?

Or is it just the first 1000 that apply for the 'online stream' that get it free.

So essentially it'll just be the E4 stream [being edited by the same people for the same type of audience] but on a 24 hour loop?

Hmm... I see where this is going!

I'm guessing: Basically people will have to apply for the normal stream, give payment details etc, but the first 1000 will get it free. So you can't specifically apply for a 'free stream'.
