View Full Version : Poor series of BGT on the whole

Am I the only one who thinks that this, on the whole, has been a pretty poor series?
Right from the off-set really there was no act that really grabbed my attention, as has happened in previous years. Sure, there was without a doubt talented acts, and the line-up in the final was arguably one of the best in terms of diversity, but I have to say, I didn't really have any stand out favourites, no one really wowed me, and to be fair, I was only really watching cause (A) I like the show and (B) it's something to watch. The final felt pretty lacklustre too, not sure whether that was down to one show instead of two, which was a pretty stupid decision anyway, but it just didn't feel like an 'event', if you know what I mean?
Compared to previous years, this series has nothing on them.
Series 2 > Series 3 >
Anyone agree?

Yeah, this year was poor. It didn't have the wow factor that the others had :/

The auditions (which are normally the best bit) were poor, but the live shows bar 1 were great, the final was fantastic imo!
They tried to make it sound like it was wide open.. when we all knew spellbound had the best chance of winning by some distance even before the Final. For once i'd just like a competition that actually is Wide open...

it was really bad tbh. todays final was pretty epic though.

nah, i actually really enjoyed it this year.
but in the final i hate the way there's always a clear winner.

To be fair I'd have said it was wide open too but then when I saw Spelbound were on last they'd pretty much sealed their victory before the show had even started.

I don't think that's always been the case.
I certainly never thought Diversity would win last year, and I wasn't sure whether George Sampson would do it either.

I was disappointed at times but this final week has shown some awesome talent.

One of the least entertaining series I have watched. Spellbound were an obvious winner. Everybody thought Susan Boyle was going to win last year and it was a close call with Diversity. Twist and Pulse 2nd? They will be forgotten about by next week.

The winner had been named before the final began IMO. Last year I thought SuBo was gonna win, year before, Signature had a good chance of winning too. Poor series overall.

Was not too bothered about the final. I loved The Arrangement lol.
Spellbound are good gymnists and that obviously.. but they didn't "wow" me. Well done to them anyways.

It still baffles me why they made the final an entire show, is it only me that likes having a Performance Show and then a Results Show?

Yeah, I don't think the series was as good as it could've been. The final was pretty predictable, I thought Spelbound and Twist & Pulse would be the top two, infact me, Stef and Jess were discussing before Usher and James & Dizzee how they were obviously going to win now.
Anyway, the only surprise in the final was Kieran getting third, didn't expect him to be in the top three.
There was a lot of diversity, as you said in your original post Jack, but I didn't really think they were that good. Janey sounded horrible in my opinion, she was clearly only in the final because she's old.
Meh.

It's been the most balanced series I think, usually we get 2 or 3 decent acts in the final while this year there was only 2 or so acts that shouldn't have been there. It was the best final I thought. As a whole the series hasn't been brilliant but the final pulled it back.

Liked the series, hated the winner.

The series overall was piss poor. Auditions were boring and didn't have any "wow" acts at all, and the live shows only ever had one or two good acts on them.
But the final was pretty great, pretty diverse and every act bar one was fantastic. Shame that it was all one big long show, but it entertained me regardless. Winners were good, although I personally didn't like them. The kid who was thrown from the judges to the stage looks really strange...
But overall, crappy series.

Yeah.. not as good as other series. Didn't have that key controversy that gets everyone talking. A bit boring.

Well I didn't watch this series tbh. But I did catch the final on the ITV2 late repeat.
What crap. The winners were ok but nothing mindblowing and the stupid camerawork and director bloody ruined it as per usual with stupid distant shots all the time. Idiots.
That drummerboy was utter sh!te and those two chavvy B&Q shelf stackers...meh, street entertainers, no more. Rest were the usual bag of drab, ordinary plebs with average talent and no charisma or star quality whatsoever.
Thankgod I missed the series if that was the best of.

Well I decided not to watch the auditions this year but did watch the semi finals and the final. Spellbound really are amazing and people saying they arent that special, yeah well lets see you do that! They were flippin great and the most talented people I have seen in a long time. They should open the olympics as they would do britain proud. I think the final was fantastic every act except from janey were great. The final was better than the royal variety show is going to be! Wish tobias was in the top 3 though!

I wouldn't say poor - just a bit flat after the highs of last year.
All it's doing is following the traditional reality TV pattern - huge success in the third series, deemed a flop in the fourth (even though ratings up on 1&2).

I wonder if Brits can really understand how Susan Boyle and BGT became MASSIVE in countries where BGT WAS NEVER ON ANY TELEVISION?
That was a 'story in itself'.
Youtube and Bittorrent and StreamTV type of sites until BGT became an international sensation.
Anyways.. I thought the audition weeks were were lackluster and too many joke acts getting too much attention,
and,
even the semi-finals I thought far too many dance acts with nothing special or somehow lacking something intriguing. That includes 'Spellbound'.
Tobias, Liam, Accountant guy, old gal,.. I really did appreciate them very much and they made it worthwhile for me.
But not a strong season.

I think this year was a big let down. The wrong acts got through although there were some good ones but a lot of rubbish got through just so the audience could laugh at them
not their best to be sure, but better than most shows

I think it was a pretty poor series, there wasn't an overall winner for me. Last year, Susan deserved to win, but this year, I basically didn't care who won.
