I will start a topic for each week, so that we can discuss the performances, and who went out etc.

In my opinion Chico shouldn't still be there, when real talented singers are fighting for their place (ie. Chenai). 4tune were no great loss because I don't think they would have cut it as the weeks went on.

I think Phillip was saved through the Irish backing, and also because he is a good looking guy. I also think the Conway Sisters are getting the Irish vote although I do not think they deserve it. The one who sings lead is an ok singer, and the rest just "oooo" along with her.

Tonight was a good show though.

I was really shocked by last night. IMO, Phillip was absolutely awful. He completely murdered that song, and should have certainly been in the bottom two.

I thought Nicholas and Andy were the best two performances of the night, with Brenda a close third. Last week, Nicholas ruined a lovely song, but last night he really pulled something special out of the bag. As soon as the music started, I recognised the song as Marvin Gaye and I wondered what on earth we were going to be subjected to - but fair play to Nicholas for giving the performance that he did. I also thought Andy was superb - no surprises there. Brenda s great and I think she'll go a long way, because she's also got such a lovely personality. Maria was good too, and looks amazing.

I thought Shayne was okay, but wasn't as amazing as the judges kept going on about. A lot of his appeal is in the way he looks, especially as far as Sharon's concerned! But to be honest, I really can't stand that song he sang, so it was difficult for me to be objective.

I thought Chenai's performance was okay, but nothing special to be honest, but I didn't think she deserved to be in the bottom two.

Journey South were great. 4Tune were boring, but that was mainly down to the song they sang. I could not believe that they were in the bottom two. The Conway Sisters were better than last week, but still boring and forgettable.

I can hardly believe I'm going to say this, but I actually enjoyed Chico's performance last night. He's not a great singer, in fact a lot of the time I could hardly hear him, but he made me smile. I pretty much agreed with what Simon said about him.

I thought the bottom two should have been Phillip, who was always pretty forgettable, and last night was terrible - and The Conway Sisters, who are just boring.

Also, the bitching between the judges - especially Simon and Louis - is getting tedious. It's Louis far more than Simon. When Sharon had to pick between 4Tune and Chenai, he kept saying she should save Chenai because he saved Chico last week. That's a pathetic reason to save someone; it's not about the judges doing favours for each other, it's about saving the best act. And he's always trying to humiliate Simon:bored:. If they do another series, I really hope that Louis isn't in it.

OMG…. Last night was great but I have to admit that I missed the booting off show! *shame on me*
Ok so as far as I’ve gathered it was 4Tune and Chenai that were in the bottom two which I was shocked about to be honest.

I don’t personally like 4Tune but I don’t think their performance was bad enough to put them in the bottom. However, I’ve believed all along that those type of “bands” are a bit outdated and have seen better days!

I thought Shayne’s performance was good, I didn’t like the song but he sang it well and I think he might last the distance. And I agree with Ruth that he wasn’t as amazing as the judges said he was!

Maria’s performance really impressed me. I wasn’t a big fan of hers but I thought she had a certain spark about her last night.

Journey South blew me away last week but I wasn’t too bowled over by them this week. I think they have a lot more to offer.

The Conway Sisters, Nicholas & Chenai didn’t light my fire I think they need to step up to the bench and really belt out some tunes to impress me.

Brenda was great but I still don’t think she’s got the X-factor! There’s something missing…. Sure she’s a great singer but I’m not convinced yet!

I was disappointed with Andy’s performance, I think he could have chosen a bitter song, he has a very powerful voice and I believe that he does have a future in music ahead of him! But does he have the power to become a star? I mean I liked Steve wotshisname last year but I knew he wouldnt pull in the punters when it came to selling records! And where is he now???

Phillip on the other hand….. What the hell is he still doing there???? Last nights song was shocking!!!! He looked like a rabbit caught in your headlights??? Scared, jittery and so flat you could sprinkle lemon juice on him and eat him for Shrove Tuesday! (I don’t like pancakes BTW)

Which leads me to the last person….. Chico! No words really can be uttered that sum up how I feel!
Ok….. Maybe one…… Shite!

I dread sitting through another one of his painful performances - I feel so uncomfortable! :nono:

Its similar in Strictly Come Dancing! Did anyone watch that?? Why Fiona and Brendan didn't go I just dont know! She's a lovely lady but their performances are so painful!

Arlene was out of order saying that Fiona was a noose around Brendan's neck, that she would get the Julian Clary sympathy vote, and that she wasn't taking it seriously - hardly constructive or encouraging is it!?

Delighted!

Absolutely delighted that 4Tune have finally gone. The world does not need another boyband, especiall one's that look like frogs and pull extremely irritating grimaces each time they change from one note to another. It's annoying an my Saturday nights can only get better without it. That and the fact they were cheesier than a packet of Wotists...or is that Cheesy Puffs?

There is no way Chenai should have been final two though. I'll agree she wasn't great but there was far worse last night, namely Phillip and Chico.

And exactly why does Shayne have ever so many fans? Can anyone else see that he is nothing to get worked up about and he has to be one of the most unoriginal artists on the show, surely. Last night we got a Daniel Bedingfield carbon copy, the week before we got a highly lacklustre performance of a song that was way too big for him. Suppose it's all the teenie ladies have left now that 4Tune are gone.

Maria is usually good, but last nigh she did leave me a tad cold. I know she can do better. Same with Andy, Journey South and Brenda, they are missing something I cannot put my finger on but are no doubt great singers.

Dan_
23-10-2005, 05:12 PM
Shayne is a very good singer. He can sing in many keys and I don't see as how he could have done te Bedingfield song any different. He managed to sound different to Bedingfield. He has performed well 2 weeks in a row and I don't know what's unoriginal about him. He's not trying to sing like anyone else either.

It stinks, if you ask me.

Aye, cc100. It's becoming a one-horse-race....with no excitement at all to it. I wouldn't mind but he is nothing special nor different to the market that already exists.

Good looking males generally get quite far on reality TV shows, no matter how little their talent is (not that I'm saying Shayne has no talent). It's the way our quite sickening society is.

I though most people were good last night.Only ones I didnt like were Phillip,Chico and 4tune.Everyone else was brill.I was so relieved that Chenai stayed but think either Phillip or Chico should have gone.
Im irish and everything but I do not like Phillip and I dont like the fact that people like people for where they are from instead of talent.:puzzled:

My 8 yr old Daughter thinks Shayne looks like Justin Timberlake. There's your answer as to where most of the votes come from. She can't wait for him to come on.

However, in his defence, the lad can sing. I don't know yet if he has the X-Factor, but he is good looking, sexy (sorry, but it's true) and he can sing. Maybe there are too many others like him already. JT for one. Maybe there isn't room for more of the same.

Personally, I wouldn't like to see the show get moulded so early on into a one or two horse race. It gets tedious when that happens. I prefer when the public make up their own minds about people. I would like to see more than one of the acts on there making it in some way or another. I agree with what Kiz said about Steve Brookstein. He was forgettable, and alas, has been forgotten already.

I think Journey South have a career ahead of them regardless of how they do in this competition. They have basic raw talent, and there is always a market for middle-of-the-road music, which I'm sure they can churn out no problem.

I would like to see Andy getting a career out of this, but that's mainly because I am working class too, and it's nice to see a binman do well for himself.

I think Brenda is too much like a gospel singer to make it in the pop world. She has a great voice, great personality, etc, but really, can you see people buying into the next Aretha Franklin?

Chenai is a bit of a hit and miss at the moment. I think she can do more. Louis is just sh!te at picking songs for them.

Nicholas was outstanding last night. However, I couldn't help thinking of Anthony in the diary room date when he was going "Lets get it onnnnnnnnnnn"... (Yes, Sorry, I know, I'm a sad BB anorak!)

The conway sisters? Who? .. the groups this year are DIRE! If it weren't for Journey South, they would have ZERO in the groups department. I reckon Simon's gonna lose another this week, when the conway sisters fall on their face again!(Does anyone think the one in the red dress looks like that other ugly irish bird from B*Witched? )

As for 4tune, one of you mentioned the odd faces they pull when they sing, and I totally agree with that. I cringe for those boys when they are up there. They have all been whacked once or twice with the ugly stick, and the faces they pull just make it worse. Also, what's with the perma-tanned one? He wasn't that orange in the first audition was he????

Philip seems to fancy himself as some sort of new-age Elvis. I would imagine that's what all the shoulder jerking is about... although if he intends to do some "rock n roll" and "dance" (and I use that word loosely), I reckon we are in for some comedy next week, and not intentional either!

However, despite my obvious shine for the lovely Shayne, I do think that Maria has the most talent overall, and should win. She has everything. She is gorgeous, she can sing, and she has superb stage presence! She is a star already.

Which only leaves one person I haven't yet mentioned... and I will leave that to my red signature to explain.... :spin:

Am I the only one that thinks Brenda is notas good as the judges say? She's a nice enough lady even if a bit mad lol but I am never really that impressed with her. She would make a good backing singer but I just don't see the star quality.

I think Simon's going to be left with just one act for quite a while because The Conway Sisters just don't really cut it. I felt that they failed to show the true emotion of the song 'You raise me up', they just seemed to shout it and look rather angry.

Journey South seem such humble guys and so far they have really impressed me. I like both guys voices but think that the younger one should be the lead vocalist.

Chenai is a wreck, every week she cries and I am getting just a bit sick of. She has had 2 poo song choices but she's not lived up to expectations.

I hope Andy goes a long way, he done well for two weeks but is proably better suited to singing ballads. I am suprised that he's never been given a record deal before now.

I really like Nicholas and have done since his 1st audition. He just needs to keep singing the same type of songs each week. He's could go on to have a great future and he's up there with the American R'N'B singers.

Philip is the least original singer on there, he just want's to be Elvis and he was rubbish last night.Just seen that Louis think's he's a young Cliff Richard  Simon rolled his eyes to that one.

Maria has a great image and a great voice. She will go far!

Chico never fails to make me laugh. Not the best voice to say the least but he's great entertaiment and adds something to the show. I look forward to seeing him each week.

BigSister

Ruth
23-10-2005, 10:46 PM
I thought the move Philip kept doing when he was going on about doing rock and roll was a bit strange. And I'm a bit bored of Louis making excuses for Philip by saying that he's nervous. They're all nervous -why should people go easier on Philip because of that? Yet, it's as if Louis seems to think that Simon should not criticise Philip at all.

I really hope that Louis doesn't decide to give Philip some rock and roll next week. It would be excruciating to watch.

Pipergun
23-10-2005, 10:55 PM
Cliff Richard?? Totally agree Ruth! I think that'd be kettle time for me!!

Now, I'm going to say something extremely controversial: don't be too gobsmacked: IMO The Conway Sisters sung "You Raise Me Up" better than Westlife themselves. I stress "better" loosely, as you'll know I'm not their biggest fan!

Ok, on a Saturday night I have a habit of recording Strictly Come Dancing and watching the X Factor, as their times tend to clash. Watching the Conways on TXF, I thought they were much better than last week, but still nothing to rave about.

However, it was with shock that I watched the SCD results show, where Westlife performed the exact same song and MIMED! How ironic and embarassing is that? I can't claim that they couldn't sing live, as they have previously boasted about the "top-notch acoustics for live bands and performances".

It is therefore that I have a reluctant amount of respect for the Conways, as they took on Westlife's song, sung it LIVE on live TV, compared to the men themselves who chickened out and MIMED! I must admit that credit needs to be given where it is deserved. Still, after this, I am not too fond of TCS and don't think they've got a cat in hell's chance of winning!

Did anyone else notice this?

Ruth
23-10-2005, 11:04 PM
I think the best version of You Raise Me Up is Josh Groban's.

I agree Piperz, the Conways can sing, but they're just a bit boring.

Can't stand Westlife:mad: I didn't know about them being on tv last night, but it doesn't surprise me at all to learn that they mimed it.

Do you want an X Factor forum on the message board for all the X Factor posts?

I haven't really got in to the show yet, but I saw some of yesterday's. I saw the gushing praise they gave to Shayne and thought they are trying to avoid another Steve Brookstein where Sharon really criticised him and then he disappeared soon after he won.

The judges are all getting behind someone they think is marketable this time.

As Ruth said, and I agree, the original version of Your Raise Me Up by Josh Groban is by far the best one.

As for Westlife, I have seen them live twice... (shuddup, do not slag me off pleaaasee).. and I have to say, that they were actually very very good live. But, it's true what you say, when "successful" bands mime on telly, it's extremely lame.
