Right so where to start with what they called "the biggest launch night ever":

-First of all, trying to be too different doesn't work out. I mean, calling the housemates couldn't be anymore useless, it was just...there. They should have sent them in the way they did for CBB, it was perfect that way.As for the mole, it may be one of the few positive things of the night.
-Different housemates ? Yeah right, all of them are wannabes or freaks who are completely uninteresting. Just one or two stand out.
-The crowd was disgusting towards the housemates. it was booing even before we had a chance to watch the VTs.
-The carnival theme is so not working, the graphics are weak and Davina was completely lost.
-John James is the winner. Obvious.

Big Brother 11 is starting very badly. I'm so disappointed. :(

Can't we just skip to the BB All Stars thing please ?
I actually lost interest after the 4th one went in.

I believe Rachael and Caiomhe are somehow interesting but will be evicted in the first 2 weeks.

Remy I do agree with a lot of what you are saying:

- I actually like the Carnival theme (for what it is) but for the last BB season I was hoping for something a little more 'classic' and something that really epitomized Big Brother.

- I also would have preferred the Launch be a 'classic' where they arrive in the Limos and where it would really feel like BB as we have known it.

- Even though I do think this group is going to be fairly intelligent and a little deeper than some other seasons - I still was disappointed at how many wannabe models, wannabe fame-seeking types and how boring to just pick people who look like celebrities.
Celebrity impersonators again. Annoying.

- Once again no real age and class diversity here. Just one family man is barely 40.

One thing that REALLY offended me was the deliberate freak-show they created and really just used people. Did you notice they managed to get Steve, the dwarf guy, the lady with deformed arms, the transvestites and celebrity impersonators all together in the camera frame?
That was rude.
I felt bad for the girl with the small deformed arms because I realized she was used to make a 'Freak Show Carnival' appearance.

Having said all this...
....I think they did do something right in picking more intelligent people this season.
I think people who may be a little 'deeper' than usual - overall. Certainly a lot more potential here than the dullards of BB10.

So I definitely do see what your saying and complaining about and I do agree with a lot of that,
but,
I am still holding out a little hope here.

I agree, I would have loved a more classic opening or if different, then a la CBB7. That was just a freak show and I'm very very afraid it takes the same way BB7 took: horribly which then gave the worst series ever.
There is no diversity whatsoever. We'll see in the first few days but my hopes considerably dropped.

I think you're being way harsh. First of all, I think the new way of housemates being told and entering worked very well, it was exciting for them and for us. The graphics are some of the worst ever but is that really so important?

Also John James is NOT the winner. Yeah he has a great chance but so do Steve, Josie and Mario particularly if he pulls off the task. And this time last year, would you really have been saying Sophie would win?

I think you should be a tad less pessimistic. Personally I don't see the BB7 comparison, but it is clearly no the worst ever series, it had some awful bits but also a lot of amazing moments and above all else - is a fan favourite. Plus it produced some absolute classic housemates, I'd go as far to say it was the last star producing series with Nikki, Aisleyne, Glyn, Pete and. Grace

I have to disagree, I though the launch was the best in a long time.
The show did try to be different, maybe too different, but it worked and beats the last 2 launch nights we have had. I really love the carnival theme and thought it worked well
Calling the hosuemates names out worked just so well and brought a fresh vibe to the show. And John James the winner? From what I saw from the live feed he will be out soon.

I loved it, but people just had way high expectations really. Compare it to BB8.9 + 10's launch and it was great. Something really really different.

How you can say the housemates are ****e is beyond me, they've been there for a day and they've been more entertaining than BB10 was at this stage. I think this has the makings of a classic series.

It was a good launch, I really quite liked the Carnival theme and I thought the Housemate twist mixed it up a bit. The male housemates weren't as interesting as the female ones but that was only from first impressions. It wasn't a bad launch at all really, better then BB8,9 and 10's.

Really surprised by all the negativity over the launch, considering it was pretty good overall. Normally I'm the one who complains and whines about the production side of the show (and I had good reason to during BB10).

There is no point in complaining as my opinions don't need to have a justification nor a point whatsoever. I complain because I want to. Simple as.
I'll still watch the show because it's Big Brother. If I had to stop watching after the disaster BB7 was (in my opinion of course) I would have missed good series afterwards. So the fact it's not on next year will not prevent me from saying what I believe in.

In about 50 series I've watched around the world, this launch may not be the worst but definitely not the best executed. I think it was very weak overall, it had no dynamic, the crowd (if there was a decent one) was full of morons, the housemates are pretty much all wannabes (they don't even try to hide it) which is a big contradiction to what the producers told us (no wannabes this year we promise). It was a huge mess and completely discombobulated.

I feel like this year will be like BB7, and as anyone who remembers that series after the launch knows that it was branded as a stupid freakshow; it's considered to be amongst the best and is the third-highest rated series (after BB3 and BB5). Let's not shoot BB11 down too soon, I see a lot of potential.

That was one of my biggest disappointments too. The shortlist even raised expectations because there were a few older ladies, one was disabled, and some decent 'regular women',
but,
instead they picked those 4 who you are bang-on here - could all be the same single lipstick girl.

the housemates are pretty much all wannabes (they don't even try to hide it) which is a big contradiction to what the producers told us (no wannabes this year we promise).

This was a let-down and contradiction and maybe this was supposed to be a funny 'twist' on us?
Far from avoiding the 'wannabe BB' types they seemed to specifically pick those types.

I was actually convinced that 'Shabby' is a writers creation. A spoof or satire on that kind of person that who is the annoying BB wannabe type who is obviously 'working' to get on BB.
There were about 8 others who could fit that too.

This reminded me of a previous BBUSA season where the houseguests, en masse, were so contrived, artificial and such 'caricatures' and carrying on so predictably that even long-term viewers suspected it was all one huge 'twist' on the viewers.
That all the guests were actors 'playing typical housemate types'.
... which would have been a better twist than the actual season i add.

wats with all the "wannabe" talk
they may not be wannabes.
Rachael earns goood money for being a Beyonce lookalike , so what if shes got the looks then why not.
And I read Corin does some lookalike work too. Its a living.....

The launch was more exciting than them just getting out of a car. Which seems pretty boring in comparison.

But the choice of HMs seems sloppy. Theyve not covered all potential angles of entertainment. Like love connections. We need HMs to fancy each other as it stirs up drama. Like last year with Noirin.

Dave and Shabby are both plump whack jobs. Did we need both? Allister would have added a whole new dimension. Sunshine? Just why? Not pretty or interesting.

ElProximo
10-06-2010, 08:11 PM
IF they wanted to stack some 'types' for the sake of drama then I would have liked to see Steve joined by 5 or 6 other people with some kind of disabilities, deformities and disfigurements and even better if they are working class and family people.

Then you have a 'contrast' to the lipstick glam girl wannabes and the model boys.

Then it does become fascinating to see 4 model girls fighting about hair-straighteners and product when 4 disabled people HAVE NO USE OF LEGS OR WORKING ARMS!
Then the 4 girls can feel ****ing STUPID about themselves or even learn whats more important in life.
Then you have a real meaningful story and drama and even something dare I say important.

Instead its far too many who will be having 'drama' over who took who's eyeliner and who said they were fat. And the girls will harp on about hair extensions and boob implants.
