This was the first week I watched it properly. I've given each contestant a score out of ten.

Phillip 6 - Did OK, but a bit awkward on stage.
Brenda 7 - Good performance
Shayne 7 - A good rendition of that song I thought
Chico 5 - So bad he's good. I think he's entertaining
The Conway Sisters 5 - uninspired, not much reaction from the audience either
Chenai 4 - not too good, didn't like the choice of song
Andy 6 - fairly good technical performance
Journey South 5 - didn't like the choice of song
Nicholas 6 - okay
Maria 6 - okay

Chico and Chenai survive yet another week. Am I the only one in the country who can see how shocking they both are? :puzzled:

BigSister
29-10-2005, 08:50 PM
Chenai it dependsJrc but Chico:mad:I told you Stropz the kick Chico club out might have to think of a new plan

jrc
29-10-2005, 08:53 PM
When you say it depends....... depends on what exactly? Whether the perfomance is bad, shocking or just plain deafening?

Dan_

Chenai is awful, at least Chico is flamboyant. She's just plain dull and out of tune.

Cowell knows what he is doing.

Fair enough. Still, the best thing about being rock bottom is you can only go up.

Well, I'm glad that both of Simon's acts got through - I'd have hated to see him lose another one.

I thought

Philip Better than last week, but that's not saying a lot really. Je just looks uncomfortable on the stage.
Brenda Brilliant performance as usual. She deserves to go far, and she looks more gorgeous every time I see her!
Shayne Sorry to any Shayne fans, but I was really disappointed in his performance tonight. Simon was right - a gravelly voice suits that song, and I just didn't think it was right for him. Also, he's getting a bit of a cocky attitude.
Chico I can't explain it, but I am really starting to like him! Technically he is far from great, but he is really entertaining, and I definitely think that Simon made the right choice tonight.
The Conway Sisters Tough song - I thought they did well with it.
Chenai Not very good. Better than last week, but one of the worst performances of the night.
Andy Great performance from Andy as usual.
Journey South Really good - I like to see them do more uptempo stuff. I thought their voices were perfect for that song.
Nicholas Let's Stay Together is one of my favourite songs, and nobody can sing it like Al Green, but I thought that Nicholas did well with it. Not as good as last week though, but Simon and Sharon are right; I think we have yet to see the best of Nicholas.
Maria For me, that was her best performance yet.

I'm glad Philip's gone. I don't think he looks comfortable or confident singing, and I felt he deserved to go last week.

I though Phillip was brill- i love him! I can't believe simon let him go instead of Chico its not about the contestants its about the judges and it shouldn't be! Bring Back Phillip! x

That was my reaction when he did that... except with stronger language!!! It's an absolute joke keeping Chico in, no matter how awful Phillip was!

Anyway, here are my comments on last night's show...

Phillip - He looks too nervous all the time. I know it can't be easy being up there, but he is by far too nervous for this stage of the competition. His dance moves are shocking. I was embarrassed for the boy!

Brenda - She is superb. She has everything. But, is she mainstream enough?

Shayne - Absolute cr4p! He should never have attempted that song. He does not have what it takes to sing it, which makes me wonder if he is adaptable enough to be at this stage of the competition. Also, I agree with the comments about him getting big-headed. That is not a good quality.

Chico - NO COMMENT

Conways - Useless. And, when they are all singing together, there is always one voice which is not harmonising with the rest, because she is too busy trying to be the "star". I suspect it's Marie. She is nothing like as good as they are telling her she is.

Chenai - Oh my god girl. Please give it up. She was absolutely useless also. She most certainly doesn't have what it takes to do Mariah Carey justice. Far too many off-key parts for my liking, and a very obvious speech impediment when she sings also.

Andy - He is a star. The thing about this song is that it seems easy to do, but it's not. And, it seems quite dull, so that will make people think it's quite cr4p, but he actually did a very good job of the song. I would be happier if he had a more upbeat track next week though or even a more modern ballad.

Journey South - NEVER, EVER attempt to do a U2 track. I do not know anyone who does their stuff justice, and this was no exception. I love JS, but on this occasion I was disappointed.

Nicholas - Very good performance. The boy is amazing. He is a great singer, and he is also a very good performer. He doesn't just stand there like a mannequin. I like him. He will go far I reckon.

Maria - I voted for her, and I do not usually vote at this stage, but that girl is head and shoulders above the rest in this competition and she deserves to win.

And that's my opinions!

I am glad someone picked up on the speech impediment, it does not matter what song she sings now I just can't get past the speech impediment when she sings, you can also hear her breathing a lot of the time.

Yeah I've noticed that also. I actually wondered what she had sung at one point! Don't think I'm making fun of anyone with a speech impediment - I'm sure nobody here is - but it really does spoil enjoyment of the songs she does (although it would be hard to enjoy them anyway). I think she should be out within the next two weeks surely?

The funny thing is, I don't notice it so much when she talks, so it makes me wonder if it's the way she sings which brings it out. She is very nasal. That could account for the "breathing" Dan mentioned.

And, no, you are right Ruth, none of us are making fun of the girl for having a speech impediment. We are merely pointing out a fact, much the same as if we said she had a big ar5e for example.

Mariah Carey also has a very obvious speech impediment when she sings - she actually sings 'twuth' rather than 'truth' in her own version of the song.

In order of how well they performed on the night (regardless of whether I like them or not) from best to worst:

Maria: The best vocalist from this year’s finalists by far, and once again the best on the night as well. Unfortunately, being an attractive woman will no doubt count against her sooner or later. In a week that promised so much but delivered so little, it’s all downhill from here, I’m afraid.

Nicholas: I really can’t stand him at all. He seems very arrogant, and the fake ‘gangsta’ drivel is extremely annoying, too. But he gave his best performance so far last Saturday, and did a decent job, even though the arrangement was played with so that he wouldn’t have to cope with the majority of the falsetto parts Al Green delivered so effortlessly.

Chenai: Her best performance so far. She proved last year and at her audition this year that she has a fantastic voice, though much the same as with Cassie last year, she loses it all when it comes to the live shows. Still, this was a much better effort, and I was pleased to see her safely through to next week’s show.

Andy: Dull dull dull, and he crooned rather than sang the song. Also lost it big time when he tried to hold the note near the end, but failed miserably. His worst week so far.

Conway Sisters: They really should never have made it this far, as they just aren’t good enough to cut it. A cheesy song, given a cheesy Nolans-esque treatment. One of them does all of the work, and the other three just sing all over each other. Ultimately, it was pleasant enough – in a twee, non-threatening kind of way. They’ll be back in the Emerald Isle before the month is out.

Shayne: A terrible choice of song this week, and therefore his worst so far. Still, there’ll be something seriously wrong going on if he isn’t in the final.

Brenda: I really fail to see the attraction, and wouldn’t have put her in the finals at all if it was up to me. She made no effort whatsoever, and only seemed to realise there was a mic available in the final third of the song. A very lazy performance.

Philip: Hilarious to watch, and another poor song choice, too. But still, his best week of the three he was around for. Trevor, however, would’ve been a far better choice for Louis’ final four.

Journey South: I never liked them at their audition, or at bootcamp, either. But they surprised me on the two previous shows, and gave good performances. This week, they went backwards. Their voices collided rather than blended. A real mess.

Chico: An abomination.

Yes, but she can actually sing. Chenai can't even speak without the river Thames pouring out of her eyes, let alone sing.

You can't compare a woman with a five octave vocal range and the best of everything at her fingertips to help her, with an ordinary working class teenage girl. Chenai can indeed sing, and she's proved that many times over. Admittedly, she's been affected by nerves in each of her performances on the live shows so far. But she gave a decent performance last weekend, and was better than most of the other acts on the night.

Being emotional is hardly a negative quality, is it? It doesn't do anyone any harm, after all. She's extremely passionate and committed as far as this contest is concerned, so it's not really surprising to see that heightened emotion manifest itself in other ways, too. When a footballer's desire and determination is apparent in a tough tackle, for example, it's perfectly acceptable. I admire Chenai's emotional openness, as it goes. I find it natural and endearing. Last year, we were made to endure Jon from G4's sympathy seeking crocodile tears. That's not the case with Chenai at all.
