To say he was awful is harsh, he was not great but he was never really out of tune so he can't have been awful.

Brenda 5 - I've liked what she's done in previous weeks but I don't see how she got so much praise tonight. Performance didn't really work for me.
Maria 6 - good enough considering I think she needed a different song.
Andy 6 - good performance.
Journey South 6 - good enough I suppose.
Nicholas 4 - totally the wrong song for him. Some really strange dancing also. Thought he was the worst between him and Chenai but deserved to stay for the reason Simon Cowell gave.
Chico 6 - he was probably in my top 3 performers!
Chenai 5 - she sang well, until near the end.
Conway Sisters 3 - don't understand how they stayed in. One Voice was an appropriate song because only one of them ever sings. Simon couldn't be more underwhelmed by his own act if he tried btw.
Shayne 5 - Summer of 69 was much better IMO.

Brenda - 3/10 Another bland performance, and her worst yet. Lots of bum notes, and almost half the track was in the wrong key. Totally undeserving of the praise that she got tonight.
Maria - 7.5/10 She sang well, but the song just wasn't working for her. An interesting experiment, with an inconclusive outcome.
Andy - 6/10 Faultless, as usual. Dull and ever-so-slightly cabaret, as usual.
Journey South - 4/10 Giving them that song to sing was like giving a toddler a sharp object to hold. Accidents will happen, and they most certainly did. How can they have sang together for so long, yet still find it impossible to harmonise with each other?
Nicholas - 4/10 Nowhere near as bad as expected, though still quite an ordeal to sit through. He has this strange need to extinguish invisible cigarette ends whenever he's on stage.
Chico - 1/10 High on a pill was a droning goatherd / Layee odl, layee odl, lay-ee-o ... Ain't no particular song he's more compatible with / I just want him off the show 'cause he's ... ****. Bonus mark awarded as no children or animals were harmed during the course of his ... thing.
Chenai - 7/10 Her best performance so far, and it was ridiculous that she went on a night when only one act performed better than her.
Conway Sisters - 3.5/10 Barney. On ice. With special guest stars Cirque du Soleil. On helium.
Shayne - 5/10 Better than last week, but strange all the same. Improved after he hit the chorus.

To say he was awful is harsh, he was not great but he was never really out of tune so he can't have been awful.
erm excuse me but he WAS awful, he was out of tuine! Even simon said Chenai performed miles better than him.
Brenda - The performance of the night for me. I thought she was excellent.
Maria - I really like Maria and think she is definitely one of the best acts in the contest. But I don't think this song really worked for her to be honest. I was surprised that she got so much praise for it, but nonetheless, she is a great act, so I hope she lasts for a long time.
Andy - I don't like that song, but he did a great job of it.
Journey South - I thought they did really well. Really tough song, and a very beautiful song. I didn't think they would be able to do a good job of it, but they did well, and should be proud of themselves.
Nicholas - Awful. He was rightly in the bottom two. Just wrong, wrong, wrong.
Chico - I really enjoyed his performance, and I think he is definitely improving. No way is he a great singer, but I like his performances. I was glad that he wasn't in the bottom two.
Chenai - Last week was dreadful. This week wasn't as bad, but it was still a boring performance, and I'm glad she went last night, as I think she was definitely one of the weakest acts in the contest. It started off quite well, but all fell apart about halfway through.
Conway Sisters - I didn't know the song, so I wasn't sure if it was the song that was bad, or their performance, or a combination of the two. Whatever the case, I didn't like it at all, and I was really surprised that they got through the public vote.
Shayne - Didn't like it. I thought it was totally the wrong song for him.
One other thing - when Sharon and Simon said that Shayne's song was not right for him, Louis immediately said that it's not a song contest, it's a talent contest. Then, after the very next act (Conway Sisters), he said that it was the wrong song for them. Make your mind up Louis!

Agree with you Ruth - fickle Louis! Did you see him squirm when Simon invited Girls Aloud to sing next week!!? :joker:
I believe the song choice does matter, because it controls the vocals that the contestant is able to showcase, and if the song is of poor quality, ill-suited to the act or doesn't show much range then the act is at a disadvantage because of this IMO :spin:
Tom. :wavey:
- Just watching the repeats as I didn't catch the whole of the show last night - I'll comment fully then!
Here's a question, what song would you pick for each of the final 8?

Brenda - Excellent performance. She has a cracking voice but I still feel that she doesn’t have the x-factor, and will she sell records??
Maria - Fantastic voice but spoilt a very good song. I don’t think she should have done such an up-to-date song. It’s only just left the charts and I can only draw parallels to how James Blunt sings it.
Andy - Very good but I would like him to sing something challenging
Journey South - Fantastic!!!!!!!!!! To go on stage with just a guitar and do an acoustic performance really shows how much talent these guys have!!
Nicholas - Awful, awful, awful!!! How many bum notes did he hit? He deserved to be in the bottom two!
Chico -
Chenai - Glad she went, she’s been clinging on for dear life for the last few weeks and I cannot remember a decent performance from her. She has an ok voice but she didn’t let her personally out.
Conway Sisters - Like Ruth, I wasn’t familiar with the song. They need to pull something really big out of their hats other wise its goodbye for this lot! It was a mediocre performance.
Shayne - While I do like Shayne, the song choice was all wrong and didn’t show his talents.

Brenda - She is consistent, and can obviously sing. She is also doing a grand job working on her own image (the weight loss & everything). I like her, and I hope she gets a record deal. There is a place in the market for her, but I don't think she has the "X Factor"
Maria - I love Maria, but I was bitterly disappointed in this performance. A woman with a voice like Maria's simply can't cover a song by James Blunt. His voice is quite unique, and like Kiz mentioned, people will always compare, especially when the song is so recent.
Andy - I would like to see Andy coming through with something spectacular. I know he has it there, I just don't think we have seen it yet. But, to be honest, I feel it's unfair to judge him too harshly because of the week he has had. I know it's not easy for any of the contestants, but I think this week was particularly hard for Andy, with his personal loss.
Journey South - I really liked this. And, I thought it really showed how talented they are. I remember the first time I heard Sugababes sing acoustically, and I was blown away. When there is no backing track, there is no room for error, and it most definitely separates the men from the boys (metaphorically speaking!)
Nicholas - Oh dear. This was shocking. I think on the whole that Louis chooses really, really bad tracks for his acts to do, then he tries to justify it with, "we both chose it". I seriously doubt that! And, if it is true, then its abominable that he is letting them choose tracks which are so obviously unsuitable. He is, after all, supposed to be their mentor. So he ought to be able to see when he is sending them out like lambs to the slaughter.
Chico - No Comment
Chenai - She is shocking!!! I am glad she got chucked out. I can't believe she lasted this long. She didn't sound that great in her audition, and she hasn't improved much since.
Conway Sisters - I don't know that song, but I do know that they are also shocking. I can't believe they are still there. It's only ever the chipmunk one who sings. The rest just back her up. And, sorry to be shallow, but I really wish they would stop putting tight jeans and bright red boots onto the one with the big ar5e. It just draws more attention to it!!!!
Shayne - I love Shayne (to look at), but I think we are seeing that he really doesn't have what it takes. You need more than looks to be successful, and Louis is doing him no favours with his awful song choices. Give the guy a break, and send him out with something from this millennium!
