If USA lose, and we beat Algeria by some margin, it could be that we are almost certain to go through providing we win/draw with Slovenia and USA draw/lose to Algeria or don't score many.

Yeah, when you get the chance to sub, you just drag an attacker to the midfielder you want to replace to get a 4-3-3 or midfilder to defence vice versa 'til you get a valid formation :)
