Eugene gives a regular role a try

Nov 16 2005

CRAWLEY'S famous reality TV star is job hunting.

Big Brother runner-up and celebrated geek Eugene Sully is in the market for permanent work as a radio engineer after a rollercoaster three months spent rubbing shoulders with celebrities.

He gave up a new job at the BBC to take part in the hit reality TV show over the summer.

But he told the News on Tuesday: "It is a little like a firework. When I left the house I was so busy and now it's started to quieten. I'm a little bit worried the celebrity is starting to run out.

"I'm looking into an engineering job at an independent radio station.

"If the BBC want me I would be happy to go back to them."

The down-to-earth Pound Hill resident gave a speech in a debate on Thursday at Oxford University on whether celebrity in Britain had gone too far.

"Even though he has bagged £50,000 from Big Brother and £20,000 from Heat magazine, he scoots around Crawley in his £6,200 Subaru Legacy.

He said: "Hopefully that says a lot about me.

"I was invited to Jordan and Peter Andre's wedding but I had another engagement and I thought it was an automatic invite but when I met Peter at the TV awards he asked me why I didn't come.

"I felt really guilty. He is really chatty.

"The fact he missed me meant he actually wanted me there.

"I will have to visit them to make up for it."

Fame is still a strange animal to Eugene, who has become used to being accosted at nightclubs by young girls.

He said: "They ask me to sign their breasts but I try to stick to the upper area. In a nightclub is okay but I refused to do it at Crowborough bonfire.

"I am starting to learn little tricks that people play like those who take photos in clubs and send them to Heat saying, 'Eugene snogged my best friend'."

Note to my local radio station:

"You've had him for a few days, GET HIM BACK!"

(he did Coast FM for a short while, did a good job too - the people of North Wales would love to have him here)
