i interpreted it as he was saying he was gay but frightened by the homophobia of the west indian community (which is notoriously hateful and violent towards gays)

LOL we sure are.

But that said, he needs to see the big picture, if hes gay, then be you, be gay. A few of us might sit at cuss him down on the TV, but no ones going to
go out of there way to "Bun out di chi chi", no one cares about him that much, this is england. If he marched round Kingston, Jamaica in a pink tshirt shoutin "im here, im quere" then there might be a problem, but i dont think he has any intention of doin that so he needs to man up and just be himself.

yeah i agree, but he is young it's still a big deal for him. The thing is though he seems to let the campness flow quite naturally it's not as though anyones going to be in shock over it. and i know campness doesn't mean your gay, but he soooo is gay. all that overt masculinity and macho bs with the west indians is all based in fear of not being man enough, guys that really are masculine rarely have any issues with gays

He never should have entered that house, he MUST know that all his mannerisms are gay, his bitching is gay, and HE is gay but is scared to admit it!!!

I agree its a tactic... he is as gay as gay come on the way he acts so now he is going to come out of the closet , even thought he never been really in one and basically gain his place in the house... its all a game plan

really dont think people are as clever and cunning to make being gay a game plan!.......they are all just insecure and care to much what others think......which is why theyre on big brother no doubt. dont think he's gay, just not secure in who he is, he listens to peoples sterotypes too much! like camp equals gay! not always. but who knows, he obviously doesny yet

Most of my gay friends are not stereotypical, hand-wringing, camp bitches. In fact none of my friends are that, but a few acquaintances are. I know plenty of straight men who act like Govan. There is no 'gay mannerism'.

So that's that theory blown out of the water.

Well - he does, clearly. Or certainly he cares about whether he perceived to be gay, whether he is or isn't.

Probably but who cares, he just wants attention.

I agree with the second part of that, for sure.

I disagree. I accept that some str8 men are camp (and many gay men are not camp)...for eg Ben or Luke from last year, but the first time i saw giovan my gaydar went off the meter , and all the angst about sexuality he is displaying...100% gay, and no, it doesn't matter, but it has brought up some interesting issues, like being in the closet and black homophobia etc.

Is the term black homophobia racist?

Well - yes and no - it refers to a cultural phenomenon in certain (predominantly) black cultures so it isn't entirely inaccurate. But it depends how it is used - as long as you understand it doesn't mean that ALL black people are homophobic. Clearly that isn't the case.

I'm Gay and my Gaydar tells me that Govan is Gay too. Sorry, he can deny it all he likes but I'm rarely wrong.

I don;t know if he is gay and worried, or he is regreting that he implied that he was bi sexual on his VT. But Corin was lovely to him. Everyone needs a Corin in their life. :D

Is the term black homophobia racist?

Yeah, why does black people have to have there own type of homophobia? If your homophobic, then your homophobic, black or white, you dont like gays same way. Just because more people are homophobic in the caribbean and use different words and terms, doesnt mean its different from the homophobic white guy down the street, they both dislike gays.

"Black Homophobia" is bull****. Your either homophobic, regardless of race, or not.

He reminds me a bit of Rodrigo from last year in that Rodrigo claimed he was bisexual even though there was never a hint he fancied any of the girls from BB10. Methinks they're both gay but you never know, it could just be their personalities

lots of respect for you afro mullet, really , i like what you say and where your coming from 99.9% of the time. I didn't mean to cause offence by using the term 'black homophobia' but i will stand by the meaning behind it. As well as the different use of language , these days at least , homophobia that is taken into acts of violence and murder is actually pretty specific to some corners of the black community in jamaica and sadly in this country too. That and the free reign that some dancehall/rap artists seem to have on preaching hate encompasses to me , the meaning behind 'black homophobia' . That does not mean that I think all blacks or west indians or rappers are homophobic as i know from personal experience that this is not the case at all. When i look at giovan i see a child struggling to find and accept thier place in the world and i see fear. Sadly ,while homophobia and rascism can be digested and processed by adults comparatively easily (at least in more civilised parts of the world), there are youngsters who really struggle with all this stuff and it seems he has both to deal with.

I took the conversation he had with Corin to be that he is gay but not out the closet as yet.. I think he is struggling with it? I may be wrong but I think that's what he was getting at.
