View Full Version : Is being Gay the new rebeliious Punk Rock and Roll?
Seeing each other
23-06-2010, 10:58 AM
I cannot help for the life of me ask if being Gay (when one is young) is the new rebellious Punk Rock and Roll. My Niece goes to college and is being put under pressure to believe she is "Gay", and it is NOW about finding who "ain't" Gay. It just seems to be the be the new "Trend" for very spoilt children to go down.
I say all that because SHABBY looks like she just being a spoilt brat and is all about outsmarting people and doing things to wind people up the wrong way. If someone sees this girl in 10-15 years and finds her living in a massive country house with her BANKER BONUS husband and 3 children talking about her rebellious "experimental days" do not be surprised.
How on earth someone can be in a house for a matter of days and cry on national TV for a straight girl is beyond me and drives me mad, then talks about her feelings that have to just be put down as insane, spoilt and uncontrollable at the end of the day. Shabby is nothing but a spoilt brat of and actress doing whatever the hell she pleases, and I have got her number.

Shabby knows Caoimhe isnt gay, to cry when she doesnt respond to her advances is frankly absurd.
Of course we all know that being gay is definitely not a trend but people like Shabby don't do the gay community any good.

its pretty pathetic and most of these brats will grow out of it when they get older as pointed out it seems to be standard behaviour now for attention seekers to stomp about telling the world im gay deal with it just to be confrontational any real gays dont feel the need to tell everybody every 5 mins i bet they get pissed off with these type of people.

I get what you mean. Shabby from her middle class background probably thinks being a Lesbian is something 'controversial'. And she is one of those who always like to let us know she is a Lesbian. Her whole dodgy love thing for the Irish girl is just stupid attention seeking crap.
Why does she keep laughing Shabby? Cos she knows the whole thing is ridiculous and you're making yourself look like an idiot!!!!

She did never get nice, handsome boyfriend. Now she is angry and calls herself as a "lesbian".
Govan lied about being Bi, just so he could get in the show.

OP, you talk as if you have never seen a lesbian before so I can understand if you have trouble looking at this objectively. There are working class lesbians, posh lesbians, lipstick lesbians, bulldykes, lesbians of all shapes and sizes. BB is a show of extreme characters, so just like you are more likely to get a gay guy like Marco or Kemal than Mario or Dan and just like you are more likely to see a black girl like Alexandra or Sylvia than Melanie or Alison, BB are likely to pick more contentious characters that fall under the 'lesbian' rubric.
Being as emotionally immature as she is, it's no surprise Shabby has become infatuated in such a short space of time. And I agree there is no doubt that she is exaggerating her infatuation to gain attention.

So you think being gay is just a trend for her most probably because she's spoilt..
... and think it's wrong for her to cry over a straight girl.
She's gay, being spoilt (pure speculation by you) has F all to do with it.
Why can't you accept that she's gay? It's not a 'trend'.
Your niece exploring her sexuality won't make her gay, either she is or she isn't. Shabby Ranks is 24, i'm sure she knows exactly who she is by now.
Gay lads/lasses fall for straight people alot, it happens. You can't help who you are attracted to, it's how you deal with it that matters.
They get upset too when it's unrequited love. Ya know, just like straight people do when they like some and they don't like them back?? Then they might have a lil cry about it... big deal. It's the same for straight people isn't it?
Most of the hm's have gotten emotional, they've spoken about their feelings too, shocker!!
Or is it only Shabby Ranks that's not allowed to?
Try dialing that number, i think you'll find it's the wrong one.

It justs show how immature and shallow she is.Think I remember feeling and perhaps acting that way when I was about 14.when she told Caoimhe that she really liked her she said she was embarrassed.....ffs just grow up you stupid liitle girl.reminds me of "granddaughters" ramblings on fb and she is 13.I do believe if it had been a anyone having some kind of feelings they would of handled it better .and as for dancing on the back of sofas when music played into the house....yes look at me damm it.keep her in for a while longer just so she feels complacent then boot her out the back door wih no crowds ,media or tabloid

No doubt all you say in bold is true from your own personal experiences but from my experiences as a straight man, if I was attracted to a woman and she told me she was gay I’d still be attracted to her, but my pursuit of her would end pretty abruptly. As she is clearly unattainable. I’d probably get upset but I know I’d never cry about it.
Shabby’s contradictory nature is one of the things I find quite interesting about her, but I still think it is frankly absurd to cry when someone so out of her league – in so many ways - rejects her advances. Shabby likes to tell others to grow up but in this instance she’s showing incredible emotional immaturity.

Locked in a house 24/7 would it end as abruptly? You can stay away from her, Shabby can't. Also being in the house might make the situation worse, Michelle (bb5) wouldn't take no for an answer, Craig (bb6) was a bit of a nightmare. I guess it all depends how they behave outside of the house, which is something we won't ever know.
I don't think Caoimhe is clearly unattainable. She's flirted with Shabby Ranks, she's also told her that if she didn't have a boyfriend she'd get it on with her. She's giving Shabby hope in a way.
I don't think Caoimhe's out of her league either.

I can totally relate to Shabby - falling in love with a straight member of the same sex is a real bummer of a situation. But she has to accept that nothing can and will ever happen.
Unfortunately there seems to be some uncertainty with Caoimhe's sexuality - but the fact she's taken should be an immediate no-go area.

How do you know you wouldn't make a fool of yourself? You've never been locked up 24/7 with someone you really like. Also we don't know how Michelle and Craig behave in real life, maybe it was being in the house that made them act the way they did or maybe they are the way they looked on the TV. We'll never know.
Caoimhe said she's bi. Whether she has a b/f or not. She also said if she didn't have a b/f she'd go for it with Shabby.

How do I know I wouldnt make a fool of myself? Becasue unlike the Shabby's, Craigs and Michelle's of this world I understand the meaning of the words self-control and self-respect. Shabby is one big mess of emotions and tantrums. And she has the nerve to tell Ben to grow up. Interesting but certainly not likeable.

But you don't know how they act in the real world do you? Michelle and Craig could have been like that because of the enviroment they are in, emotions are heightened in that place. They may behave 'normally' outside of the house. You just don't know.
They might have self control, self respect outside of the house but being in the house totally messes up your head. Housemates say that all the time. They can act out of character. So as you've never been in that situation you'll never know in what way you'd act. You might act out of character too.
Also, i never said her b/f trumps everything. I said Caoimhe's giving out mixed signals, saying Shabby would be in with a shot if she was single, for example. That'll not help in ending things abruptly.

Yes as we arn't Mystic Meg, lets see...I can only go by how they come across on TV. Of course I've never met them and I wasn’t under the impression that I said I had met them, or do know them, but surely you can understand we can get an impression of how someone is based on their TV appearances? And given their TV appearance plus how they behaved on the show I can see a number of consistencies.
It is bollox. Without question, in my mind. Its amazing that the quieter characters never say that. It’s only the idiots who've made fool's on themselves. And they're usually prompted to say so by some interviewer.

It wasn't just the housemates giving that as a reason. Tt was the psychologists on Big Brain that did. Often explaining away the hm's behaviour being due, in part, to the pressure of being part of the show.

Psychology is not an exact science and the psychologists are giving us their theoretical interpretation of the HM's feelings. I just don't buy that the house made Cesar(BB7) behave the way he did - as he said on BBLB while being very heavily prompted by Dermot. I don't believe that Lesley(BB6) was made to behave the way she did because of the pressure of being in the house. I believe on both those occasions, and many more ,they used that as an excuse.

I don't believe that Lesley(BB6) was made to behave the way she did because of the pressure of being in the house. I believe on both those occasions, and many more ,they used that as an excuse.
I'd love to know their theoretical interpretation on the latest events.

Most women will try carpet munching at some point...and most will grow out of it. It's just a fad.

Gotta love hot lesbians
Hang on, so you're saying everyone's turning gay/bi to be rebellious, but isn't that really conforming if everyone is doing it? So actually, being straight and true to yourself is rebelling?

Stupidity.
There's nothing stupid about falling in love with someone with unrequited feelings. It's a bad situation, sure, but not stupid.

You don't even know what that means. Stop using big words on a forum and go back to mummy.

The trend is to say that you are a bit bi or maybe not...or maybe gay...or not.
am i or arnt i?
thats the trend
nothing actually much to do with having same sex intercourse.

The OP makes a few great points. The bit in bold is pretty much spot on. Shabby knows Caoimhe isnt gay, to cry when she doesnt respond to her advances is frankly absurd.
Of course we all know that being gay is definitely not a trend but people like Shabby don't do the gay community any good.
I don't understand what the bold text is suggesting? If she has feelings for a straight girl why can't she get emotional the heart wants what the heart wants. You do not chose who you like or fall in love with.

You do not chose who you like or fall in love with.I cant speak for the OP - perhaps you should have quoted them and not me - but my interpretation was that firstly, she has feeling for a girl that is not gay and thus unattainable and secondly, that she has not known her long enough for her feeling to be genuine.

I would be enjoying Shabby and Caoimhe business if it had even a small fraction of the comedy value of Craig and Anthony.

I respect your opinion. But you can't possibly know that. Only Shabby will know if her feeling is genuine and why is it stupid for her to like a girl who isn't gay? It's not something you choose as pointed out. Unrequited love is fairly common.

Its absurd for her to fall for a straight girl if she's at all pragmatic. We know now that she isn't, but hey.
