If you take away evictions then it isn't Big Brother. Anyone who witnessed Maxwell's eviction would know that.

What's maxwell got to do with it?
And you're wrong: BB is still a reality show with contestants in-house. Simply altering the WAY in which BB get their vote-cash is no different than, say, the way they changed the host on BBLB or stopped using the house divide like they did in BB3.
The look on Maxwell's face alone was one of the greatest things to come from this show when he found out he was evicted.
The only way they can do it is how the Americans do it on both Big Brother and Survivor. The evicted (losing) contestants get put into the jury house once they leave but unless they are going to pick the winner as they do on these shows, who the hell is going to stay when they can make ££££ from the tabloids and entertainment mags?

No, in the US version contestants still get evicted. Why not do it the better way and have NO evictions until the final 2 weeks? Just leave a vote on punishments, that would be better and more argument-inducing (if BB manipulate it right).
It would cause more fights and take the show off the air though because of the Ofcom brigade. Also it would leave complete dullards in the show for ten weeks more than they should've been. The formula now regarding nominations is perfect, why spoil it?
Arguments will come in time but it's not only the arguments that make the show fun. It's like today, most people are hoping Caoimhe is replaced as one of the evictees.

Can someone explain this:
If you replace evictions with punishments, how is this NOT a good thing for the show??
I see so many people crying on here about their fav HM's being voted out, yet this could be solved by eradicating evictions altogether. Just let people vote on punishments, that way all good characters stay.
Rachel would still be arguing with JJ if this was the case.
The evictions are a big part of the show - people like to see the ones they hate voted out and to see their reaction! Your idea is dead in the water!

Hmm, interesting, that's kind of like the real world, where they all stay around.
I like evictions, I do prefer the US version because it's more meritocratic, this one is more of a popularity contest, I think the eviction is at the heart of BB.

agreed, although what do you mean about Maxwell's eviction ?

No, what should happen is this:
In order to make the boring ones contribute, they should be put in situations where they are favoured by BB and then the others can resent them. This will cause conflict. Or you could even reward the entertaining ones and give the boring ones a button to press. If they press it, the entertaining HM's get their rewards taken away but the boring one will get given a phone call from home or similar. Then footage of this is shown to the rest of the house, thus causing conflict. Variations of these techniques will make BB better.
No, arguments MAKE BB. Everything else is secondary.
But the other one is basically rich side/poor side from BB3 but done on an individual basis. Arguments are a lot of what makes BB tick but it's not everything. Sometimes the characters themselves are completely hideous or humorous and that's what makes the show tick.
If we had arguments every five minutes then we may as well build a big boxing ring instead of a house and let them fight to the death. :D

BB wouldn't exist without evictions. How do you think the show is funded?

Yooo, I love Rachel, I've been going out with her for like..
ummm 3 weeks now ...........(in my head).
If there was any way she could.. still be around, I'd be in favour of that, but, we know the rules, & the eviction provides the climax of the week, it's been imperative to the shows success.

I mean that the viewers of BB at the time were so enthralled by who was going between Maxwell and Science that it was epic viewing. It was an experience (well for me anyway) to want Maxwell to fall when he thought he was staying. His facial expression alone was justice for how he treated Science. Nobody knew who was going, the vote was close and like a football match had that intensity.
I bet a couple of hundred thousand smiles appeared on viewers across the land when we heard Davina say "Maxwell".

Wickerman you got a little rapist DNA in you, it's like you're JJ's cousin or something, I feel like you need to calm down.
A punishment isn't a big enough draw for me to watch the show, I think you'll get less interest in people picking up the phone as well.
What's that get me outta here ****, where they voted for Bush tucka challenges..
Hell naw..
It's the culmination of the whole week.

I'm a Celebrity get me out of here asks for votes on tasks. It's run is a lot shorter than BB but I'm sure they make some serious cash out of votes.

Not a convincing comeback I'm afraid. You either want entertainment (and change the format to achieve it) or you don't (leave as is).
Now, BB is being cancelled. I'd say they are on a losing streak and need to change the format to save the show. Only a fool would disagree.
You can change the format without taking away evictions to get entertainment. You can punish them in the manner you want yourself without taking away evictions.

^ spoken like a true novice.
Didn't Orlaith vs Science in 2005 teach you anything?
If you think the voters can be trusted to save good HM's then you're dumb. No, my way overrules on this I'm afraid. The public cannot (repeat: CANNOT) be trusted to vote intelligently. Therefore, evictions need to be scrapped outright.
No, you simply go the American way and allow the other housemates to say who gets evicted.

Oh sh*t, this guys got pedigree, quoting snippets of BB history, to further back up his point, well look, based on your knowledge BB in it's current format has intrigued you enough to continuously watch the series..
How about that?
