Does she see herself in Ben?

I think that Shabby sees so much of a resemblance in character between herself and Ben that it causes her to block him out and attack him.

It's already know how Shabby came from a highly priviledged childhood background and 'rebelled' by joining the art group and gaining the lifestyle she now leads.

Perhaps Ben was the sort of person Shabby associated with prior to her "class rejection" and feel that she needs to repress his "type" and keep as far away as possible, rejecting him at any given occasion.

Just my opinion, anyone agree?

I agree with the OP. Ben's lifestyle is that which Shabby rejected. Give her 5 years or so and she'll be right back in with exactly the same people.

I think she's actually jealous of Ben. He's a writer/broadcaster and has the sort of lifestyle that she is trying to get into. On her VT she said she wants to be the 'darling of the independent film industry'. That's not a middle-class girl rejecting her values really now is it? She's been training as an actress since childhood, according to the BB website, nearly landing the lead role in Parent Trap.

I think her whole character and appearence is self fashioned to try and create a certain look or life for herself. I don't feel as if she's being real at all. So her aggression towards Ben, in my opinion, is more to do with her jealousy over his accomplishments. She's a frustrated wannabe.
