Oh don't be silly. You need two distinct sides. Plus one lieutenant each. That's 4. Plus at least 2 floaters. 6 minimum.

6 or 7. The more the better this year - we are in desperate need of lots of new housemates.

This lot are so bad, there has to be about 5 or 6 new people. They need the BB5-BB7 types going in.

Actually, for everyone who doesn't or can't work it out, to have a truly great house you'd need at least 25.

they should try putting everyone up for nom, vote for who you want to save, 4 that get least support are swapped with new housemates, instant tension and interest

Because people (being ever so predictable) always evict entertaining housemates. On the law of averages, you might get 3 or 4 good HM's a single series. So by increasing the likelihood, you might get 7 or 8 good HM's (maybe more) and therefore even if a few of them get evicted, you've still got some backups.

Remove 6 of this lot, replace them with 8 people.

The guy Patrick above, was he in BB? He is in the diary room chair or is that another contestant? I don't recognise him (it's a he, right?, can't tell).

Purely as Devil's advocate, then (because I would love a huge cast) what is to stop the entertaining ones STILL being voted out early, and us being left with 16 bores?

In order to give a guarantee of being entertained, you'd have to give the show an overhaul. I'd be in favour of BB nominating housemates who are boring and not allowing other HM's to vote. We could determine 'boring' via common sense and those HM who are not providing significant airtime.
BB should chose the dull and let the voters (or idiots if you prefer to call them as I do) to decide who goes.
