Ashley Cole sent a disgraceful message to pals days before flying out to the World Cup - snarling: "I hate England and the *******ing people!"

There are various sources.

Metro (http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/833755-ashley-coles-i-hate-england-rant-sparks-death-threats-to-chelsea-star)

In one they had a picture of the text on his Blackberry but I cant find that one anymore.

If true, he'll have to explain himself, or quit the country, or at least quit playing for it.

Well, he was one of your better players though. I'd say he was just pi$$ed at the pressure that the media and support were putting on him. Who knows.

Nobody forced him to play for his country.

No doubt having thousands of England fans booing and jeering cant be a bundle of fun but please, these guys need to grow a set and admit their failings.

Is he really stupid enough to put his career in jeopardy by saying something like that where a lot of people can see it?

I doubt it.

I call bs. Definitely untrue.

Once again he adds to his bad reputation. Not a bad world cup, consistant in his performances, one of our better players for sure, he should of just kept quiet...

He sent it before the World Cup started Girth. And he still performed reasonably well, especially in comparison to the rest of them.

Look, I don't like the chap, but the media exposure they get in Britain is crazy, right? It must be alot to bare. I'm not condoning the message; just trying to understand it.

This story comes from a number of sources and Cole hasn't denied it.

I agree the hype and media coverage is crazy but he benefits from that in other ways. We cant tell the press to stop writing negative articles or the public, who see these players perform week after week, to not have high expectation.

I think we agree but see the problem slightly differently. I agree the coverage they get can be a bit much but he needs to deal with it better.

I'm British (part Polish part Irish mind), but mostly I'm English. I don't like England as a country though, I often wish I was born in the US or in Canada or in Australia or Italy or France or Germany or Spain I really do not like living in England and when I'm older I intend to leave.

But the thing is this guy is representing England as a nation, he shouldn't be saying this. I'm just one young guy who would prefer to have been born elsewhere and prefer to live elsewhere, but this guy he shouldn't be saying things like this. He's gotta' be careful what he says. It's about the principal how can you represent England as a nation while at the same time feeling such hate for the country.
