If you compare American Tv and film to the UK, there are very few celebrities who openly admit to being gay in the US. It is still a very very conservative country.

Ben would have no chance in the states even if he were straight, because he doesn't sound or look "straight". In the US we can take a Rachel Maddow or Ellen DeGeneres every 10 years, but if you're a gay guy you can't talk about it, keep your hair short and face like a robot, a la Anderson Cooper.

You'd think it was 1950 when it comes to the gay issue.
