View Full Version : The NEW bar: The Sticks Tavern

After applying for a licence, the new bar has opened in the absence of Boris's Bar.

It has been named in honour of perennial pessimist Sticks.

So, first orders: Whats your poison?

Also you got a bottle of cider available? theres some 16 year old kids outside who have asked me to come in and get it for em,

Sticks
19-12-2005, 07:25 PM
This is a nice idea but did you ever ask why you got such a cheap deal on this?

The previous tennants terminated the contact early, apparently there was a mould issue and they had problems with the fuses shorting out..

I was looking to see if there was space for the coffee geer, but in the only available space there was a shortage of power points.

What did the surveyors report say?

You did get one did you?

BTW those kids are from Trading standards, they came round Borris on the last day, but Kaz was on the ball and referred them on to the coffee bar, at which point they left.

Anyone seen Kaz?

she seemed so determined right up to the end we could keep Borris open, but in the end the new owners just did not want it as a going concern :bawling:

Indeed we had a surveyor in, and it seems this property was built on a surprisingly fertile base.

We have a coffe bar and we sell a full range of food, from snacks to full 3 course meals.

We are opening especially on Christmas Day and will b e offering a Christmas Dinner.

Put your name down if you want a Christmas dinner.

Siouxsie
20-12-2005, 08:40 PM

Sticks
21-12-2005, 03:21 PM
I have seen their coffee bar, a catering tin of Maxwell house and a bowl of those UHT milk thingys.

Once we have a word with Kaz I might try and get the coffee machine in, although space looks rather tight.

I'm so glad you do not many don't these days.

~Kizwiz~
23-12-2005, 08:55 PM
I dont get to drink it too much these days but my dad lives in France and he brings me a bottle everytime he visits. None of this Moet rubbish...... the best is from little unknown Chateux's

Red Moon
23-12-2005, 08:59 PM
You are so right. Wish I had that would relative to bring me Champagne and lovely french red wine. :(

But at least I'm not restricted to the supermarket you can buy decent wine on-line these days as a treat :)

~Kizwiz~
23-12-2005, 09:02 PM
As I've grown older I learnt to appreciate a the good stuff more and more. I just cant drink red wine that taste like vinegar anymore.
I love Primitivo Reds... Yum

Red Moon
23-12-2005, 09:07 PM
The primitivo grape produces that lovely intense fruity taste. I'll start dribbling soon...lol

~Kizwiz~
23-12-2005, 09:10 PM
But then again..... you can get some fab whites too: Pinot Grigio and petit chablis are to die for

Red Moon
23-12-2005, 09:32 PM
You tease....lol

~Kizwiz~
23-12-2005, 09:34 PM
I have a creat of lovely wine from The Times in my porch! Cant wait to crack one open tomorrow night

Red Moon
23-12-2005, 09:37 PM
Right that is it.... I going to go shopping in the morning and get some fine wine for Sunday.

And to hell with the cost!

~Kizwiz~
23-12-2005, 09:38 PM
Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Go on... treat yourself.... it's christmas!
The only down side to all the wine is the morning http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/muede/c030.gif

Red Moon
23-12-2005, 09:44 PM
Well I don't have to go to work :spin:

~Kizwiz~
23-12-2005, 09:47 PM
Me neither... I'm off until the 3rd
It's going to be bliss..... well as much bliss you can have with the in-laws

Red Moon
23-12-2005, 09:51 PM
That is another good reason for drinking a bottle of wine...lol... it dulls the in-laws into nothingness by the end of the night.

~Kizwiz~
23-12-2005, 09:54 PM
Thats what I was planning!
Once the christmas dinner is cooked I'm going to numb the pain

The Nescaffe Cappuchino you had earlier was quite nice and I had had them before, nice to see you have realised that punters when they go out prefer ground coffee.

Our kit from Borris Bar is still in storage, waiting for Kaz to get back. Has Kaz joined the list of missing.

BTW there was some kind of offical snooping around earlier, I suspect it was the planning officer. You did get planning permission for change of use did you?

Kaz was last seen lounging around in TIBB Towers (Admin Section) yesterday so she is back from her holidays. So it will soon be time to open Borris Bar!

But Borris came back and sold Borris bar to another concern, and they were not interested in keeping it going as a bar, so they closed it down and Kaz and I were given notices to quit.

On Monday the builders move in to Borris bar to start the conversion the premises to offices. :bawling:

We'll just have to use this establishment to get 'merry' in.

By the way, does anyone here fancy themselves as a bit of a singer, as we are planning on having a karaoke night soon?

Ah ha

I have just been rooting around here, since the pub and Boris has been shut down with identical posters and locks leaving this place open.

I knew Kaz ran a tight ship so any unlawful activity was a no-no :nono:

Now what do I find behind this bar,

a roll of blue tape, a couple of posters identical to the other two and a blister pack of three padlocks, with one padlock left, identical to the other two.

I suspect someone has been trying to shut down the competition by fair means or otherwise.

A double check to the cyber police revealed they had not shut down any establishment.

All we have to do is trace the stuff back to the store...

Sticks can we apply for an entertainment lisence!

Unfortunately the application was vetoed because another premises in the area had one and that was considered enough.

In Newcastle the police will object to any place wanting to sell alcohol because they say there are enough outlets already, and there objections must be heeded.

THE STICKS TAVERN IS CLOSED

:shocked::sad:

In the small hours a pipe broke and we were flooded out.

http://www.jimmylegs.com/images/flood_basement2.jpg

The firebrigade has managed to pump the water out, and we have been working on clearing up, but until the water board comes to repair the leak possibly tomorrow or Monday, I have been forced to close.

And on tonight of all nights
:bored:

Before we can star repairs, we have to tender the contract out and the insurance company selects the contractor. So can not say how long this will take, plus there is the litigation with the water board . . .

It could help, now all we have to do is cut through the various levels of red tape. I sometimes wonder if the hoops insurance companies put you through are to make you give up and not pursue the claim.

BTW the waterboard are now blaming the suppliers of their piping saying it was substandard. Any thoughts on how far down the chain this will go? Don't you just love BS5750 or even BS EN ISO9000

The staff called in sick, so the lounge had to be closed. We have run out of Rum and Port and the Cider is off. Supplies are due in tomorrow, and we are hoping that hangovers will be over by then.

Oh the joys of being teetotal

I am so glad this place is still available

I hear that the e-club had a bit of trouble today

Sorry about that, but this novelty time machine came free in an old Christmas cracker, I suspect it came from Taiwan. Any hue the stupid thing was set off by something in the club and kept skipping in and out of time before reversing the flow and sending us back.

I guess I will have to see if that flux capacitor is still available on EBay.

BTW

The water is fixed

The kegs are loaded

one slight problem

The heating is off

Hot toddy's anyone?

Next week I had a Polish time machine, to use with the Pizza delivery service, but it was awkward so I swapped it for the Taiwanese one to deliver a crate of Jack Daniels which is due to be ordered next week to the e-nightclub

I hope that clears that up

I thought Oriental Pork Scratchings would have them piling through the door. We even got some cheap Chinese lager on special from the cash and carry.
