View Full Version : David I have changed my mind, he is just lovely

I was put off David when I started watching because of his god stuff, but I have really started to like him. He just seems so funny loyal and forgiving (which he would have to be to have ben as a friend I guess!) and has been great to watch for me to see him go from zero to hero with the house.
It would be lovely to see him go on and do well in this, maybe even win it. it would be so good to see someone with a good heart and is also funny win the crown for the final big brother. I honestly would have strangled ben by now if i had to live with him! Dave is sooo patient!
I see that ben is BBs fav right now and is getting all their love with how he is shown but that wont last forever, and when they put new housemates in they may have seen who he really is, so I really think dave has a chance at this if BB show him to be the kind man he is!
anyway, i looked through and there didnt see to be many positive posts about him so i thought i would make one :)

I think Dave is hilarious, I don't relate to him through his religious beliefs, however. But that makes 0 difference to me, he's a decent guy and I actually thought it was funny as hell when he was "hammered drunk" reading that bible.

Sorry dont agree, not saying he is a bad person but needs to drop the drunk on gods love bit, gets toooo much, and cant believe Ben is favourite I think the pair compliment eachother. Cannot get my head round Ben refusing his punishment then Dave accepting it almost like they need eachother, do feel like Ben maybe using Dave more than the otherway round. If Bens favourtite I am obviously misinterpreting everything he says and does. Not fans of either find it all a bit strange all this hugging - they probably wouldnt entertain eachother on the outside.

Dave is the creepiest guy ever, but to run a cult you haveto be. You have to know how to read people's body language, convince them to give up money and trust in you. This what Dave is doing somewhat in the house, he is very creepy.
He is truly like a snake, he is snaking and slithering his way around the house, Nathan sussed him at first, but he managed to breadown Nathan in the end...shame.
Watch him, if two peopl are alone, he would slide up, slyly copy what they are doing and weasle his way in.

Most people collecting money " in the name of the message of God" who are not in your standard church or Mosques, have usually started cults.
Now if he is in a church with a roof to repair, or a vast bulk of his collection money has not gone on his fancy hair do's and big guts, but to the community or the poor...as any good minister would do, I would take it all back.
But I would doubt I would have to.

The New Ecstatics are a cult that deliberately and cynically targets vulnerable groups (with specific laungauge such as 'raves', jacked up', 'drunk') and solicits donations based on unproven claims of the supernatural and channeling God to heal.
As the head of this cult Dave is in the house promoting it and I personally have a problem with that.
I also personally hate their core message of 'don't think, don't do anything, just get drunk'.
The selling of God's power, if it exists, as just another intoxicant and to be used solely for personal ends seems a perverse twisting of the Bible to me.

He hasnt claimed to be able to heal or cure anyone, he says God can heal and cure etc.
People donating is totally different than him charging money for or even asking for money for a service(healing).
Under the Consumer Protection laws that were extended last year to falsely claim a service like healing and receive payment for would render him liable to prosecution. There is no get out clause for religious based claims either.

If he really believes that - he isn't conning anyone. Lots of well-known, established religions believe in the power of God's healing - doesn't mean they are dishonest or mad! What about the hundreds of thousands, if not millions, who travel to Mecca and Lourdes every year! Of course there are a lot of Fraud's about, doesn't mean he is one of them - maybe just mis-guided and over-zealous due to his religious beliefs! Talk about a witch hunt! :nono:

I think it's because they yet havent actively broken any laws. It seems people think that if they havent then they must be ethically sound.
I don't think anyone who has done any reading of cults and how they potentiolly destroy lives (which has been historically proven) would defend the promotion of the New Ecstatics by C4.

Found this nice piece on Counterfeit religions;
Counterfeit religions are also skilled at focusing their members’ attention on peripheral issues. They most often appeal to their emotions by talking about love and by getting people heavily involved in church-sponsored social events, or even missionary-type activities. If their members feel good about what they are doing, it makes little difference to them what they are being taught. Such people often remain loyal to a counterfeit church no matter what. Even when some are exposed as frauds, it doesn’t keep a loyal, but ignorant, few from continuing to support them.
Among those counterfeit churches that do study the Bible, many use only a small portion of it. They constantly refer to pet scriptures that can seem to support their beliefs. Often they have pulled these verses out of context and misinterpreted them, giving a far different impression than what the Bible actually means.
Proverbs 16:25 says, “There is a way which seems right to a man, but its end is the way to death” (Revised Standard Version).

What makes Dave's church a "cult"?
In religion and sociology, a cult is a group of people devoted to beliefs and goals which are not held by the majority of society, often religious in nature. Its marginal status may come about either due to its novel belief system or due to idiosyncratic practices that cause the surrounding culture to regard it as far outside the mainstream.
It is a cult by definition.

lol not swearing isnt a victory condition :joker:
It's like attempting to shout your opponent down - something people resort to when their argument is ineffective!

Lol! :joker: That's scraping the barrel a bit isn't it??
Whether it is god himself doing the curing or not, it has to go through HIM!! Dave is the one laying his "healing hands" on them...
He is preying on the sick & vulnerable by suggesting he can cure them... Of course people are going to feel obliged to give him a donation...
The man is sick.
Nah ya flamingGalah, scraping the barrel is twisting his words and actions in order to take pops at him simply because you dont like his version of christianity.

It is a cult by definition.
This is true, but the word cult has picked up some Jonestown et al baggage since the term's become popular, and I don't know if I'd go so far as to call Dave's little group a cult. They still believe in Biblical creation, Jesus, salvation, and the afterlife, even the arbitrary moral codes against homosexuality etc. The verses they take out of context are the same ones every other evangelical group does. They just give it a "rocker" lingo, so "feeling the Holy Spirit" becomes "getting drunk on the Lord"...not seeing huge differences.
While they are organized under a charismatic leader, they don't seem to share other classic symptoms of a cult; most importantly, isolationism/fear of the mainstream. They're located in many countries, on youtube, and Dave being on this program alone makes me view the group a lot less "culty".
From an American perspective, groups like Dave's are a dime a dozen. They're mainstream Christian targeted at an alternative subgroup, in this case former rockers/druggies or those of a similar aesthetic. They make money in the most glaringly hypocritical ways, but so do the most established. Have you seen megachurches? I don't see the difference besides scale and musical preference.

Well judging him by what he does in the house - surely the best thing, as it's what we have best knowledge of - does he actually HURT anyone in there by his 'drunk' episodes?

I have changed my mind again on Dave, I am sorry to say that I have to retract my OP. I have done some reading and watch a few videos, and I have to say I don't like the man behind the BB face that he shows us, or what he stands for.
It's sad when a favourite HM turns out to be not what you thought they were :(
New favourite- Andrew!

It is though, as has been said, by definiton. I have been reading up on it after following some of the links and looking for myself and I don't like what I see.
I looked deeper into what these people do and I couldnt find one positive contribution to their community at all, just a lot of self indulgent parties, bragging about sitting on the sofa being 'drunk', and requests for money. It didnt sit well with me at all.
If someone can show me something good that they have achieved with the money the 'church' makes then I will re look at my opinion.

No, but I will if the same doubts are raised.
Why, have you any links to show me that suggest he isnt the man that he is pretending to be inside the house?

I dont think he is pretending anything
he is just as you see him warts and all same as all the other inmates.
have you checked Josie's history?
Ben's male escort stuff?
JJ's old love life?
keeleys WAG tendencies?
etc
etc
it just seems to me a little unfair to judge some people by their actions in the house and others thru the perception from vidoes of their life outside

sorry, I'm not explaining myself too clearly
I just think you are being a little unfair judging Dave from what you have seen and read, probably from people that dont like his "cult", but are happy to take all the others at face value simply cos they dont have a public face for you to view

No, I get what you are saying I promise, but I only question on what I see is all, and I have seen Dave's cult just indulging themselves and asking for money. That has effected my opinion on him and his followers and I think thats entirely fair to be honest.
If anyone can post links to any good works they do with the money they make I gladly revise my outlook :)

I don't have a link but they did get £20,000 for some Bulgarian gypsy pastors, I was there. Bear in mind Dave doesn't run a church, he works along side churches. The core of his ministry is to get people to enjoy God and to believe in the miracilous, the supernatural. The wheelchair thing was just to put the point over that our efforts aren't neccessary and that it's God that that does the miracles. It was a play on words. There's a large ministry called 'operation mobilization' Dave was pointing that we don't need to mobilise ourselves, he said he wanted to start a ministry called 'operation immobilisation'.

I'd be interested in a LINK to that £20,000 donation!
St. Dave is nothing more than a hypocritical Charlatan living off the fat of the land and enjoying his numerous junkets to far away expensive places all paid for by "donations" to his "church" (The one he dreamed up as a cash cow)
The only links you are liable to find on this thread are the ones that show St Dave for what he is!

No link = didnt happen.
I have said before also that I hate the core message of 'don't think, don't get involved, don't do anything, just get drunk', and this here just seems more of that.
I agree with the poster above.. all he seems to do is sit on his sofa and get 'drunk', go on holidays to get 'drunk', sell some dodgy merchandise on his website about how you can be as ineffectual and lazy as him while being 'drunk', and ask for donations (while 'drunk', of course).
