The 12th season premiere of CBS’ Big Brother returned up 5% in the adults 18-49 vs. last summer’s premiere to lead CBS to the ratings win on Thursday night.

The battle of summer reality is now fully joined, and Big Brother’s 2.4 adults 18-49 rating, up 5% from last summer’s premiere, shows that it’s ready to jump into the fight.

Compared to the corresponding BIG BROTHER 11 broadcast last year (BIG BROTHER 11 TUESDAY (P) on July 14, 2009, at 9:00 PM), CBS was up +4% in adults 25-54 (from 2.6/07), +10% in adults 18-49 (from 2.1/06), +6% in adults 18-34 (from 1.7/06) and added +130,000 viewers (from 6.18m, +2%).

All three premieres of this summer’s BIG BROTHER have posted year-to-year increases.

Summer doldrums remained the theme at the broadcast networks with the unscripted reality leaders all down from last week.

America’s Got Talent was down 16% with adults 18-49 from last week to a 2.6 rating, it’s lowest of the summer (though it was still the night’s highest-rated and most-watched show).

So You Think You Can Dance was down 9% to a 2.1 rating with adults 18-49 between 8p-10p.

Big Brother was down, but less than the others, only 4% to a 2.2 rating with adults 18-49.

Big Brother 1 premiered with over 13 million viewers in the summer of 2000 and had the largest premier rating then any other season thus far. Season 5 is 2nd place with over 9.7 million views week 1.
Big Brother 10 had the lowest week 1 ratings then any other season with 6.3 million viewers.

Big Brother 4 has the highest average rating then any other season with an average rating of 10 million views. Season 5 was second with 8.8 million views average an episode.

Season 10 averaged the lowest weekly ratings with 6.5 million viewers.

--Season 4, 8 both saw an increase of 700,000 views average from week 1.

Um...no. We have 300 million people, get it right. Besides, only ~100mil have regular access to TVs, and very few people watch TV in the summer anyway. BB12USA's ratings have been a runaway success this year.

I've really enjoyed this season, it's had amazing players. Matt, Rachel, Britney and Brendon have all provided lots of entertainment and I also really like Lane and Kathy made me laugh a lot. The Saboteur was a complete failure, to the highest degree, but I think the competitions have been fun this season and the game plan has been the most interesting in years.

To each his own, I suppose. I found this season to be the most disappointing in a while. I despise BB10 and even BB9 to an extent and found those both to be better seasons this one. A lot of casual and internet fans alike haven't been fond of this season either. The casting really hasn't been up to par.

They hit casting gold by casting average people last season and BB11 is probably the 2nd Most Popular Season of All Time and then they took a big step in the wrong direction with this cast sacrificing personalities for hard-bodies solely. :\ They did cast more hardcore fans but as they say, too many cook's spoil the broth.

At least the fantastic ratings will ensure BB13 coming soon! :)

they're mostly tourists, that just want to be on a Tv taping in LA. half of them are german tourists. they just cheer when the producers light up the "applause" sign. Some can be a little overly enthusiastic. :P lol

They are justh aving fun getting to see a Tv show being taped, most of them don't know anything about the show. most of them go back and watch the cheap porn being made next door at their cheap motels in north hollywood afterwards lol

I thought that Ragan got booed by someone in the crowd if there was a true bb fan in the crowd they would of gave the hg the proper reaction (Ie Rachel would be leaving to boos) But there is some true bb fans in the crowd like last season when Nat won HOH no one applauded and one person went like aw crap

They try to 'cheer the houseguests up' after being evicted by having non-stop applause for evictions. Even vile creatures like Natalie would be cheered. I guess it's the whole thing, after being backstabbed by at least the majority of the house, being hated by the public could also cause a bit of a mental meltdown.
