What Ben said was wrong, he didn't mean to offend but it was incredibly disrespectful. TiBB'ers choose to back Ben because he's entertaining even though he's wrong.

It is debatable as to if he was wrong or not,it has indeed been well debated on here .Steve showed more ignorance in his response to be honest.

They were both in the wrong. Ben being not being able to express what he really means and Steve for being totally narrow minded and ignorant

Nevertheless, have you ever seen a more pathetic abject apologiser to everyone about everything?

It was gracious of Ben to give an apology, when one wasn't required. It was needed to clear the air.

He wasn't wrong. He's entitled to an opinion ffs.
He didnt need to apologise. But he is respectful so he did.

Really all you Ben supporters?
I got the impression that Bens main argument was that we should have not gone into WWII because there was nothing for us to personally gain. F8ck the rest of Europe and the fact that Hitler probably had his eyes on us next. We need to only get involved when we were personally threatened.

Neville Chamberlain tried the "Ben" approach to diplomacy, the Nazis fell about laughing behind his back!
and promptly invaded Poland.

Its his opinion. Thats the point. The house is not a dictatorship and he doesn't have to pussyfoot around other HMs sensibilities.

As Angus 58 posted,Well perhaps if he wasn't being shouted down and people did him the courtesy of listening to what he had to say, we would have had his views on that.
Has everyone forgotten one crucial fact and that is that Ben is JEWISH - in fact he is the only Jewish contestant in the house. Far from defending Hitler I got the impression he was trying to say that there were other ways Britain could have handled Hitler. Revisionists would say that in 1940 when Britain's back was to the wall the Germans offered a number of peace deals and guarantees to Britain and her empire but they were refused. America was still pursing an isolationist policy and the Russians had a non-aggression pact at that time with the Germans.
Had Britain decided to engage in talks with the Germans, who knows whether the genocide that followed could have been averted by diplomatic intervention. We shall never know because by then Churchill was PM and was intent on pursuing the war, rejecting any peace talks. It is no coincidence that when the war was over, the voters overwhelmingly voted him out of office as he was seen as a "war monger".
So FFS give Ben a break. He is a Jew and I guarantee he does not condone the genocide that was inflicted on the Jewish people during Hitler's regime; I believe he was trying to say that Britain had other options on the table in 1940 other than all out war, and had these other options been explored, who knows how the course of the war would have gone?

I'm a Ben fan, but I agree with you that he was incredibly disrespectful and it was staggeringly tactless of him.

What he said was that we shouldn't have stopped Hitler because he wasn't threatening us directly, which is utter bollocks. Ben proves again he's only concerned with himself he's a selfish person.

I dont think he was saying that at all. When talking about UK should not police the world, he talking about present day conflicts I think.
I did not see LF yesterday, but from what I have heard from others, seems he was talking about before WWII and would have preferred to avoid the war if it was possible. I dont know it it would have been possible, but I agree if there WAS a way to avoid holocaust and WWII, then obviously it would have been much better path to take.

TBH, Steve should've apologized as well. I don't care if he thinks himself as a ****ing saint, he's just another ex-soldier.

He did say that and I don't appreciate your inability to see any fault in such a stupid arsehole like Ben.

Steve should learn to disagree in a more civil manner. So nobody came out of it looking like a winner. If you're anti war then you're always gonna look for a pacifist option.

As I pointed out, Neville Chamberlain tried that tack, it was a total disaster, the Nazis just thought that Britain didn't have the stomach to stand up to them, so they went ahead and invaded Poland on the pretext that the Poles started it!
Et voila, wwII
