Yes, the role of an Admin. is to remain impartial, but also to step in and take action where forum members are being verbally abused or picked on for whatever reason. If, after making a complaint to them, they still refuse to take any action then I would suggest you simply leave that forum, Ziola. There's only one admin on the site, but he is my friend, and he has been going through tough times recently. However, he has said to me that although he does not endorse racism, he does believe in freedom of speech. My argument (which I believe is quite right) was that sure, you can have freedom of speech, but allowing it to degenerate into racism? He simply told me to ask him nicely not to do it. How can I ask him nicely if he's blocked me on both my IM programs, and that we're already not allowed to send each other Private Messages (same as U2Us)?? The admin has been highly unreasonable, refusing to do anything to help me. I'm really upset as I considered him as the one member of this site I could rely on to help me... Considering I've been a member since December 2004, have almost 9500 posts (which is more than double the racist member's post count), and have been registered a good four months than the racist member, I'd have thought I could get some sort of support. I feel really alone over there, as everyone seems to bicker these days, and me being the victim of racism is going unnoticed...

This admin may believe in freedom of speech, but I doubt he'd be so quick to allow personal abuse if it was directed at him. If you'd like to send me a U2U with the address of this forum, I'd be more than happy to tell him what I think of his admin skills, whilst cheerfully reminding him that I have a right to freedom of speech.

Even if you don't accept my offer, please let me know how this all pans out, I don't like the thought of you getting abused by a piece of scum who I bet wouldn't have the guts to say such a thing to your face, rather than doing it in the safety of his own home, over the internet.

I am sorry to hear you are being treated this way Ziola it isnt fair.

Can I also say that you feel the Admin is your friend - I feel that is untrue, a friend would stand up and be counted, a friend would NOT allow this to happen.

I am a firm believer in freedom of speech but racism is not what freedom of speech is all about - freedom of speech does not mean someone has to be abused in an unacceptable way.

Racist attacks whether physical, verbal or WRITTEN are illegal in this great country of ours and maybe you should remind your friend of that little gem.

Dump them in a heart beat honey and hang out with us more the ADMIN on TIBB wuold NOT allow that to happen to any member.

Well, I really, really appreciate the offers of help, I really do. It means so much to me. :)

I don't want to ruin everything I have over there because of this stupid fool, but he's a really nasty person.

Believe me, I have tried asking nicely to the admin, but he prefers to remain impartial. Nobody over on this other forum seems to care, they all think it was a joke what he said. But when you look at it in context, which I've been trying to convey, it's clearly not a joke. Also, he's done it twice now, both on the forum, and both times it's been looked over because admittedly he does often speak before he thinks. But "I hate spanish people" in response to my message isn't a joke, how can it be?!

I'll think it over, but Stropz, Fangz, Sunny *sets up my hotkeys on phone* :)

Friend or not, he should sort the problem out. If he doesn't and it still bothers you, contact the company that hosts the forum in question and let them deal with it instead. I don't think there are any that would permit racist content to be posted on their servers, and I'm sure they'd take action to solve the matter for you. U2U me if you need to know how to find out which company hosts it.

I have just read this and it is awful!! I think it is disgraceful that a forum would allow such things to be said and imo that specific member using such language should be banned without question!!

Ziola you shouldn't have to leave as no doubt that would just be playing into this horrible persons hands but at the same time if it is making you this unhappy maybe it is the best thing in the long run!!

I hope it get's sorted anyway I have friends that have suffered stuff like this and it is dispicable that in todays society it is happening!!

Ziola, I only just saw this thread. This so called friend and administrator seems to be rubbish at both roles. And I can't stand people who disguise their bigotry as 'freedom of speech'.

I'm sorry you're having this abuse - it's disgraceful behaviour and you shouldn't have to put up with it - I hope it's sorted out now. If not, I should do what Charlotte said.

I've had a chat with the admin, and he's told me that he can't really afford to ban this member, because we have a lack of regular users as it is. I can see that from his point of view, but he still refuses to give him into trouble. I'm seriously thinking of telling my parents, as it's really affected me, as you know you hear all these racism activists, adverts on TV and campaigning...

I never bothered with it before, as I never assumed anyone would ever be racist to me. Now I'm really angry, because he's getting away with it, and he'll continue, whether or not it's me he's insulting.

If this site is so poorly subscribed that the admin has to rely on racists as regular members, I would seriously re-consider my choice of forums to hang out at. He has abviously taken the stance that this guy is not so bad and you are not going to get any kind of back up from him.

I take part in this Roleplay game. Ever heard of VBB? It's similar to that, but on a different subject. I'm a team leader, which means I can moderate in my "team" (there are three teams, the admin is the leader of one, another of the mods is leader of the other, and I'm a leader too). I write fan fiction over there, and have written four books. The admin has produced five covers, (I'm almost at the stage of writing book 5). I feel I have too much to lose by leaving, and I'd much rather stay. However, I have now started a topic, highlighting both of his racist comments to me, and various other comments that he's tried to cover up with pretending it was a joke/sarcasm.

I have been talking to my close friends who are members there. One of them is South African, and another is African American. (The third is English). The two girls who have foreign parents like I do are just as angry as I am, because coincidentally, the guy has insulted both of them too (though never, to my knowledge, in a racist fashion).

The occasional idiot has been banned, but the last guy who was banned was rather similar to Guttridge over here. The guy who was racist to me (who I shall now refer to as 'E') is even worse than the guy who got banned. He has insulted (and I am not joking here) almost every single regular member. I am still unsure where the admin is coming from in refusing to ban him because he has a high post count. The other guy had over 1000 posts, and you know what it took to get him banned?

The guy had found out the admin's last name, and started telling other people. Seems really trivial doesn't it? Compared to racism (and later on, the said user got deleted!), the guy should still be here. I am no longer upset, I am now determined to take action against him.

I made a decision today. I left that forum. I'm sick of all the arguing they have and the fact that I'm getting thrown into the same boat as this other user who is a very paranoid, bitter twisted boy, just because I used to be friendly with him. He took it too far today, so I have left there, and shall now be taking up permanent residence over here.

It shouldn't have got to the point that you were forced to leave, but it sounds like you're better off out of it. Forums managed in such a way usually grow stagnant quite quickly anyway.

Although, I admit that I've never found myself in a similar situation to yours, I too feel that it is absurd that one human being should be singled out by another purely for the colour of their skin. I sometimes feel quite guilty, as I can truthfully say that I will never be able to personally understand the situation that you found yourself in, and that often leaves me feeling quite empty. However what I do understand is that forums, such as TiBB gives it's members the chance to express their views and make new friendships, without it being compulsary to give out any information other than your user name. To all of us here, you are yourself: Ziola. Your skin colour cannot talk for you. You talk for yourself, and that is what we respect you for.

I'm not reading the whole thread, but as a black man, I can tell you I am proud of who I am.

I'm a very tall guy and very well built and this makes me confident enough to refuse any sort of racism. I don't know if you are male or female?

Either way, racism is still unacceptable, and short of getting his IP address, going round his house and having a word, I'd have a word with the admins on that board, or, if you know his e-mail address, and it's a specific company (AOL, BT etc) not Hotmail etc, contact their ISP.

How did they abuse you? Private Message or on the board?

Maybe you could put it in your signature and expose them?

It's obviously difficult for you to ignore, but do your best, and be proud of who you are.
