View Full Version : Is it right for CH4 to promote money making scams?

When Baldwin went into the house he did NOT promote a money making scheme, he simply put forward his beliefs.
Other religious people have been in the house, none of them were selling anything using their 'faith' as a promo tool.
But Dave and his friends are a business, they arrange gigs 'meetings' that sell tickets at £30.00 plus a go, and CDs and other items.
Ch4 is simply giving Dave a chance to promote his business interests. And his business interests should be investigated, does Dave pay tax on his income? There is no Charity registration number on his websites.
CH4 should not be allowing HM in the BB house who are there to promote a scam.

It's only a scam if you dont believe, or know it to be completely false..now while you or I might not, I honestly think Dave believes every word he says...and therefore doesnt see it as peddling anything, more like spreading the word

It's true that The New Ecstatics seem to be a profit motivated organisation (Dave talks about his friends making hundreds of thousands of pounds from their ministries) but the real threat here is that C4 are giving a platform to a potentiolly destructive cult that could cost people years of their lives.
I personally think they thought they were just putting a 'laughing drunk monk' in there, I honestly don't think they considered the wider picture of who he is and what he represents.

If he really believes all the crap he spouts then he is in dire need of psychiatric help, preferably in a secure institution:hugesmile:

If you put it like that it applies to every religion...miracles are the hardest thing in the world to believe....yes every Christian leader truly believe Christ walked on water and turned water into wine....feed the five thousand with a couple of loaves and fish...it all sounds bonkers when you really look at it.

He's a Snake oil Salesman in the classic mold. History is full 0f them.
It's a sad indictment of this country's education that critical thinking isn't part of the curriculum.
Dave has demonstrated diddly squat supernatural knowledge or gifts in that house yet he has at least one housemate enthralled by his BS and others willing to sit around thinking they are having serious discussions about demons, angels and all sorts with him.
It's pathetic.

The difference here is that Dave is telling us that supernatural happenings are happening everyday and that these events are fact, yet he offers no solid proof (nothing in fact past his own anecdotal stories).

Hmm...the Catholic Church is probably the biggest money maker of them all, and like every money making organisation you cant say for 100% sure that every penny is spent where it should be or that every person 'in charge' has altruistic motives..
I'm just trying to say that while I dont believe the stuff he speaks, I really think he does...and because I cant do that double quoting malarkey, to the last person who posted after me, I think you'll find that ALL religions tell their stories and believe their doctrines and scriptures to be fact, and tell them as so...that's the point, they believe their faith is fact....and can any of them prove anything? Not one...which is why there are so many people without faith.

Maybe not, but you cant just assume that the only reason he does this is to line his own pockets...the man knows he has put himself out there to be ridiculed by everyone, he's not Machiavelli he's just some bod from Wales. Myself, I'd wait to hear some horror stories of people who had been conned out of cash before I decided he was a con man, but that's just me :)

So why is he selling tickets to events every couple of weeks at £30.00 plus a ticket? Why aren't the events free? Why does he have to organise events to worship God, most Christians manage to worship with out that crap. Why is he helping to sell CDs and loads of other crap? Why is Dave sitting in a wheelchair being pushed around the streets collecting money and 'touching' people?
You just don't want to see Dave how he really is.

It's not that all, I just dont feel comfortable accusing anyone of being something as harsh as a charlatan or con man before I at least have some evidence to back it up.
Has anyone delved into what he does with the money? Can you prove he keeps it all for himself?
I'm a Ben fan primarily, this is not about protecting anyone...I just like to play devil's advocate when people get carried away :D

I have looked into it but I can't find any links to or evidence of any type of community project, and I know others here have said they have looked as well.
I believe links have even been requested to any kind of worthwhile use of the revenue generated.
None have been provided yet though, just unsupported vague claims of a donation of £20,000 to a single group of hungarian goat herders (or something) by Peter Plunker.

Does he live a fancy lifestyle then? Does he have a massive house and smart car and go frittering away other people's money on flash holidays?
I really can see what you're saying, and why others get concerned, but I just think it's better to have all the facts before everyone just decides the fella is a conman. You;d also have to assume that C4 tried to find out a bit about him before he went into the house...at least you'd hope they would, I'm sure they would have to do a certain amount of background checks on everybody.

no, he lives at what I would consider a comfortable level on a wage that he draws fom the cult.
The rest stays in the bank, because it obviously isnt going anywhere else.
It would be silly for someone running a long con to drive a lamborghini around right now right? Don't be fooled though, Dave has already talked of his friends in the US running ministries that take 'hundreds of thousands a year' in revenue and it's obvious he has his eye on the prize. Cults have terrific earning power once established.
