Can you tweet more than one person at the same time?

Like on Twitter can you like 'mention' more than one user using the @ feature so it appears on more than one person's profile?

So like:

'@Dickface @JohnWankALot @BillyGoat @BustyBailey hi how are you all?x'

I've never understood the attraction with Twitter. You just mention what you're doing all the time? Or can you have discussions and the like?
