Race row & BB8.

Yeah this.

BB8 was simply awful with the all girl start and went on too long until a male housemate entered (Don't class Ziggy as male). The race row shook C4 and they never recovered.

- Race Row was the start of it
- They then were overly cautious during BB8 - and it was therefore ****
- With the rare exception of BB9's 'Fight Night 2', they have intervened far too early during even small arguments
- The production in the last couple of years has been absolutely dismal
- Censorship. Way too much of it.
- And finally, lack of press/media attention. But that's generally because of the above.

I agree with you Smithy - it hasn't felt the same since. It felt that BB was and continued in subsequent series to manipulate the nominations too much since for me. I much preferred it when they let things run there course naturally. I also think thay picked too many weird people in the last few years although this year they seem more 'normal'.

none of those 4 options

the producers killed big brother

they started to be bias and pushing their favourites and praising the nasties as they give "entertainment" they thought the viewers wanna see showmances, bitches and other fake sh*te
old school BB was more REAL and had millions more viewers and voters

just look at big mouth, that show is the lowest of the low gutter TV

endemol catered to the wrong crowd

Personally I think they changed the format so much that they had done everything and the public got bored, look at The Real World, still going strong after 18 years and the only format change they have made since the first season was to have 8 housemates instead of 7.

None of those

CBB5 and OFCUM (intentional mispelling) killed Big Brother.

If Shilpagate and Ofcom hadn't happened, Big Brother would have had no reason to die.

:nono:LOL

Do they read the Star in India?

All the reason given are true but the biggest thing is that it became the producers show and not the viewers. They manipulated to to cater for themselves and not for us and they're still at it. They should have gone out with a bang. They're not.

Oh yeah, that trip - the one that just fell into Julyan's brother Cameron's well-travelled multilingual lap .....

Cameron Stout is the older brother of award-winning STV presenter Julyan Sinclair.

The export studies graduate speaks fluent French and Spanish, Japanese and Norwegian. After graduating from Napier University in Edinburgh in 1992, he lived in Lyons, France, for a year, working as an assistant curator in an art gallery.

He then moved to Seville, Spain, where he taught English to children. In 1995 he moved back to Orkney and took up a job at Orkney Salmon, before moving to his current job buying and selling fish for the company North Landing, which sees him split his time between Orkney and the United States of America.

Once things got ugly both literally with BB8 and 9 and metaphorically with the race rows I think it lost a bit of simplicity.

But people get bored of everything that has a long life, especially reality TV.

The wrong people getting evicted and
also the bb team putting in s h i t housmates.
and awful editing in the past few series

2006. The two series with the yellow&black. BB7 because it ruined the finity of the house. Nikki going back, Aisleyne's separate house - it became more than a normal BB and the producers began bending the rules to get the 'entertaining characters' more airtime. Then of course CBB ruined all of its credibility to an immeasurable degree.

2, The heavy PC rules and censorship due to the race row
3, The viewing public who always voted out the most interesting people first and left bores in the final

The Great British Public: they lost interest in it, so the producers tried to spice it up with more unreal contestants, plot twists that werent either amusing or entertaining, fast tracking individuals through the selection process etc, changing the appeal of the show to target certain minorities.

Too many wannabes... people saw it as a great opportunity to get invitations to premieres and nightclubs and magazine deals.... it lost its 'reality' and just putting in fame hungry wannabes. This year they IMO have gone back to basics and captured a group of people who are more deserving to be on there. There are a few who want to get something from it....ie. Coirin/Ben/Rachael/Keeley and possibly Caoimhe... but the rest are just enjoying the experience...Mario/Andrew/JJ/Dave/Steve.

Putting Nikki back in BB7, then the CBB race row. The media didn't want to be associated with such a show anymore so they turned their back on it. And since then - political correctness all the way to the grave.

wilful_woodpecker
16-07-2010, 11:30 PM
while I agree with much of what has already been said, don't you think part of the problem in recent years has been the HMs themselves? Too many who want to go in to make themselves famous, without thinking what the BB experience should be about?

Whatever you think about current HMs like Mario and JJ, they are first and foremost there because they are huge fans of BB, and not there to build a media career out of it

The race row (and the whole putting Nikki back in) certainly marked the start of significant downfall in terms of the show's popularity

But in my opinion, the show was always going to get less and less popular over time as the format would get worn and people would have seen all the show has to offer. In more recent years, attempts to spruce up the show and add lots of twists etc could be seen as desperate, thus turning viewers off. In addition, the producers have had to think of new, exciting things to do with the show that preserved the inoffensive, PC attitude that came as a result of the race row, which evidently proved to be difficult to an extent.

Big Brother would have died on its own - the Race Row just got the ball rolling.

Very sad, but completely inevitable in my opinion
