Channel 5 to sign new 5 year Big Brother deal soon
Jack_

Not sure whether this is good or bad news, to be honest. Being on such a small channel would probably just drive the ratings into the ground even more, and then the chances of it coming back in the future are therefore even slimmer.

this question sounds strange but what are they like? i mean are they all strict and snobby or will they be more lenient if they do get big brother? lots of people complaining about lack of booze this year, would C5 give them more booze? or am i just being stupid lol is it the actual channel ie C4 or C5 or the company ie endemol that decides on all that stuff? im asking because not many people watch C5 so they have nothing to lose if they make the show really controversial and pick really crazy people

Yay then they can kill the show even more and then it will never come back.

He says in that report:
"Big Brother is a well-known reality brand, but it's tired and so there are other reality programmes that could be more value to Channel 5."
that doesnt sound too promising :(

If you've never watched it dont bother.
It'll do a good job IMO but it wont be the same. We need to savour this series cuz if 5 get it it wont look much like it does now.

Endemol produce the show, so as far as I'm aware, they have control over what housemates are chosen, and how much alcohol they receive.
However, I'm sure there has to be some agreement between the production company and the broadcasting channel. So in the case of C4, they have probably told Endemol on numerous occasions not to provide too much alcohol incase something controversial happens. Don't forget, C4 will always review the shows to ensure they are happy with what they are going to broadcast.
Five in theory should be more lenient, but then again they're a smaller channel and thus have a smaller budget...so I'm not sure how that would affect Endemol.

The media tycoon is said to want Dawn Airey, Five's chief executive, to stay on to run the station for him. It has also been reported that, if Desmond does succeed in taking over Five, he may purchase the licence for Big Brother, which Channel 4 has decided not to renew.

I'd really love Channel 5 to take it over and run it properly, the way it was supposed to run back in 2000 when it debuted.
It became a shortcut to the London Party Scene after the second series, I want it to return to the social experiment it was supposed to be when they first aired it 10 years ago

The problem arises though, where to find HMs willing to participate in the show that aren't camera savvy or media *****s.

Yes. Strip it down, make it more low key. 10 HMs only bring in a new hm if someone goes early on. A few little twists here and there but nothing big. give them the odd party with alcohol for birthdays.

That won't ever happen. I think channel 5 should take over bb.. a new format.. well same format.. just better housemates. 24 7 live feed should still be shown.. on internet or whatever.. but like maybe they should just have like.. an 8 week series of BB. 2 months could be long enough.. make it more into a gameshow????? like BBUSA?

BB could potentially be better on Channel Five, I would imagine they would take alot of care of it and do great advertising. Plus, it's it supposed to be bought by the guy who runs Ok!, Daily Star, etc? That means they show could potentially get ALOT of tabloid and press coverage, even more than what it currently has...

When have CH5 ever done a show any favours and made it popular?
Never.
billy123
19-07-2010, 11:45 PM
that ok five will make bb better bigger and more air time on freeview
I hope so i would like to see it happen it would probably come down to how much endemol are asking for them to let c5 show bb because they ripped channel 4 off big time last time it came up for renewal sky and itv were trying to snap it up so they made c4 pay over the odds for it but this time its got to cost a lot less fingers crossed for c5.

It's only a short term solution which will kill the show completely, it's best for it to die for a few years and come back restored.
That's if any of this is true.

20-07-2010, 12:37 AM
look at e4 now it already dead it needs a new channel and new idaels
Exactly... live feed starting after midnight instead of 10-30pm like it used to do shows C4 really don't value this show anymore. FFS give 5 a chance before you condemn it, they didn't do too badly with 'Back to Reality' and 'The Farm' so look on the bright side, at least it's a lifeline that could save the show... :bouncy:
Tom4784
20-07-2010, 12:42 AM
look at e4 now it already dead it needs a new channel and new ideals
Again C5 is a short term solution, none of it's programming does really well and it has a lower audience watching then C4 which means tighter budgets and less risks, if it underperforms it'll be cancelled and then it'll die as no one will take up a show that's been cancelled on two different channels.
Believe me, let it rest for a few years and have C4 take over it again, it's a much better prospect.

Hmm...well that could mean that BB will go even more tabloid than ever..
They have Ok mag, and Hot, and The Daily Star. So you can imagine the entire show will be run round fake romances and ridiculous feuds, all contrived just to sell mags or papers, and the housemates will even further up the wannabe scale.

Big Brother on Five wouldn't be good news in the slightest. They've ruined every show they've taken from other channels - and they'd ruin BB too.
Some people here needs to face facts - C4 have made the right decision both for them and for Big Brother, and the show needs to go away for a few years before any talk of a revival.

There are too many blah Dave/Andrew/Josie types clogging up the current c4 BB,

The articles and reports here are really telling us this much:
- They have 'acquired the rights'.
- They may or may not produce and air BB and they may or may not do so from another location.
Sure, it is possible they could lease the BB House, hire Davina, return next season with a sort of BB12.
But don't even count on that.
Realistically this is what we are reading:
- They have the 'right' to produce BB and have no intention of doing this any time soon.
- Davina is not coming back.
- It will not take place in the current location/house.
My guess is that they will sit on the rights and nothing is happening for at least 2 seasons.
It may very well be attempted again but look for something radically different and even more 'purist' BB.
Maybe quite surprisingly smaller and understated.
More for adults. I don't mean 'sexual content' but I mean more of an adult socio-psychological experiment.
But the thing to understand here is that we ought to lower expectations that 'BB is saved!' and will be back next year,
and,
still many here have this 'picture' or expectation this means BBLB and Davina and the House and all the usual format and themes and..
..No.
That is done now. Its over. You are never seeing this kind of BB again.

who looking forward to bb12?
I don't see any BB12 (or at least not for another 12 years).
IF they ever do their version it will have to be something like 'Big Brother 1' although by some other name (to make the distinction).
Suggestions have been:
Endemol's Big Brother 20xx (whatever is the year)
Big Brother Returns: Season 1
But from what we are seeing here it's going to be restarted in its own 'first season'.
Here again people need to understand this is not just a case where 'BB continues' as you know it.
People seem to have this idea that it's simply carrying on but the difference is that it's on a different channel now.
No.
BB as you know it is permanently over. Another business bought the 'rights' to make it.
They have no plans.
IF they do remake it they will get together with Endemol and have to create a new type of Big Brother.
Hey.. it could be some terribly cheap looking 'tack' version more Jeremy Kyle than ever before (but with less dignity),
or,
It may well return looking more like a Horizon Documentary with some serious tone, more frightening and 'adult'.
But if you believe that we will just carry on with 'BB12' and somehow the different is just a channel and a new presenter?
Ya no.
Sorry.

The alcohol was reduced because housemates became violent when they could not take their drink.
So it was housemates not BB that stopped the alcohol.
