Easily the two most influential and successful rappers of the last ten years who've both enjoyed a lot of mainstream success and media attention. But who do you prefer?
Stacey.

Kanye West way more.
Don't like either though.

Eminem is going to destroy Kanye cos this poll is being done on here... If it was done on a rap site or something I think it'd probably be about 60-40 to Eminem.
Kanye for me anyway, but they're both good. And they're both the best in the rap business atm too, imo.

Im not a fan of either.
But as we all know.. Kanye west is the biggest tool to ever grace this planet (next to 50cent), Kanye's the most aarogant wanker ive ever seen..
So i prefer eminem.
Both are Amazing, Eminem by far the better Rapper.. but i prefer Kanye as an artist, Catchier Songs, his albums are better IMO and he is more versatile

Eminem. I like both of their music, but I cant stand Kanye as a person

For me it's Kanye. They're both great and I respect them both hugely but I think Kanye is the better artist. He's constantly progressing, revolutionising the hip hop industry, trying new things whilst maintaining his signature sound. He might be arrogant but he's arrogant with good reason imo.
Eminem has shown a lot less artistic growth to me, I understand that even he recognises Relapse was a dud album but I mean that wasn't just a bad album for Em's standards, it was just straight up a bad album. There's very little difference between his records, musically or in lyrical content. Recovery is probably is biggest push so far, it doesn't include a single parody song and has some interesting and risky collaborations.

What good has Kanye actually done? Through the Wire samples another song. Golddigger samples another song. Touch The Sky samples another song. Stronger samples another song. Every other of his hits relies on featuring artists.
He is the entire embodiment of everything that's wrong with modern music production - it's lazy, it's unoriginal, it relies on endless 'featuring artists' and 'remixes' and 'samples' and it's consequentially repetitive.
His rapping isn't that brilliant. For that reason, Eminem wins.

If we are talking who is the better rapper then it's eminem but kanye is quite the poet....IMO we should be trying to find out eminem vs jayz....I know right now most people wud say eminem but going back to the old days jayz with excuse me miss, 99 problems, big pimping etc I wud say he is better

I was gonna mention this, all the song samples. Also that thing that happened with the awards where he grabbed it out that chicks hands. Eminem is probs a twat as well, but a likeable one, and a lot better rapper and artist.

I actually was on kanye's side on that one there was no way Taylor swift deserved that award over beyonce...I'm just saying that is all *kanye shrug*

Hardly anyone had heard of Taylor before that night but the following day she was the hot topic of the world

That's his whole thing, recycling music via samples, every single track on his first three album uses a sample. It was his gimmick, it was what set him aside on the first three records. I don't see how many of his singles rely on featuring artists what so ever. Golddigger would have been just as big of a hit without John Legend, Touch the Sky's success was not due to Lupe Fiasco. Good Life does not rely upon T Pain. They just happen to be there but they have had little or not effect on the success.
Aside from that 808s and Heartbreaks is a totally revolutionary record in the hip hop world. For a rapper with his repertoire to come out with a record like that was a big thing and has influenced a lot of rappers we see today like BoB and Kid Cudi. I would never describe Kanye as unoriginal.

Hardly anyone? Taylor was at the absolute peak of her fame at that point, she'd just had string of hit singles and released one of thee biggest selling albums of the year. if it was a publicity stunt, it was to benefit Kanye not Taylor. Which I don't see how it possibly could have benefited Kanye so I do think he was just drunk and arrogant.

Since when was that a good gimmick? It's still everything I said - lazy, unoriginal. It panders to people who have no attention span and are happy to have the same tunes remixed and reworked to them every 10 years without notice.
His music itself is nothing really creative, no more so than a mash-up DJ. And there's plenty of those around.
To his credit - the material that IS original has sometimes been good. My favourite song of his is "Flashing Lights". But literally every of his big singles (ignoring ones he's featured on like American Boy, Knock You Down or Run This Town) has been a rehash. For that reason alone he cannot be considered a brilliant artist. Just an opportunist.

His lyrics are great. His dedication is amazing (recording Through the Wire with his jaw wired shut after being involved in a car crash). And I think he's part of the reason that rap music is still alive (Eminem and Jay-Z too), because it was in a really bad state a few years ago.

Because half of his samples aren't even that blatant, only Daft Punk and Ray Charles. The rest are cleverly re-woven into the song, recycled made something new of. I don;t understand how you can claim someone who released 808s and Heartbreaks, Graduation and Late Registration in succession, three vastly different albums but all pulling off what they were aiming to do perfectly and is making 'nothing really creative'. He's copied constantly he is by far one of the most influential artists of the last ten years, without a doubt.

I suppose if you weren't into pop music you wouldn't be overly familiar with her over her at the time. But she has been absolutely huge in America since about 2006 and was pretty popular in the pop scene over her at the time. :)

I have nothing against sampling and hip hop wouldn't be hip hop without samples, but Kanye West's sound is way too bombastic for my tastes. Plus he is a bit of an amateur as an MC. He is all ego with very little substance. Very overpraised.

808s & Heartbreak is my favourite rap/hip-hop album by far.
Eminem is the only rapper I like, so yeah, Eminem.

Where to start? I pick Eminem obviously....
Kanye
His debut album was brilliant, i thought this guy was it, he seemed like he could go on and be the best rapper in the world. Then when he realised people liked him his cockiness showed through and started to overshadown the music. He hasnt done anything that appeals to me since the Chris Martin song. Seeing him live was a waste of money in retrospect, he didnt interact with the crowd at all and the best song of the night came from some woman singing Journey - Don't Stop believeing. His whole attitude is wrong he expects people to worship him.
Eminem
Instantly loved his music, he went against the grain for so long and it finally paid off, his albums (including the skits) are tremendous and at his peak he was the best there was. Then came his addictions. I had tickets to see him play Slane and he pulled out, I swore i wouldnt buy his music anymore, things change. Relapse was a piece of crap compared to Em's standards compared to Raps standards actually. I'm glad he released it though because it made him realise what he was doing, fast forward 8 months later and he releases a contender for album of the year, this is his year, he's taken risks and i'd say by the end of the year he'll be back to his peak.
(Rant over sorry)

Just like when he thought his "goldigger" video should have won the award he was nominated for, he come took it out the winners hand and started thanking people.
As a person he is a complete dick.

He really is, he goes around saying he's the greatest and that his videos are making history......he needs to tone down the ego (if thats even possible)
