this is for bristolians only really... i just found out from someone who knows josie that she lives in yate... well she recently moved to bristol. but iv never met anyone in yate with that accent.. actually iv only met very few people with that accent and they were all 40yrs+ iv never heard anyone josies age use the words she does...like mucker...i aint heard that word for a long ass time and it was always elderly folk who used that word (alrite me ole mucker, ows yer father) now i love josie and i cant see being able to fake the accent for that long.... but i think she is playing on it and using all the old school words. its only recently become popular to be proud to be a bristolian in people her age, a few years back 90% of 20yrs would never of heard of the wurzels. anyone else have a opinion on this? i dont know many people from yate but the ones i do know dont sound bristolian. like i said i dont think shes faking the actual accent.... just alot of the words she uses.

It would be very difficult for her to keep it going that long.

Even if, and thats a BIG if, she is using words that she has picked up since moving here then wahts the problem? It's very common to pick words and phrases up from the people around you, especially if your friends are dyed in the wool.
I honestly don't doubt she speaks exactly the way she does in her normal day to day life and I don't think for 1 second it's put on for the show, and I guess thats the important thing.

no im saying shes using OLD words that people havent said for years. its quite common here now that people try and talk old bristolian cus they think it makes them look hard/popular etc etc. im telling you for sure how she talks is real....some of the words are put on without a doubt. my mums ex used to it aswell he would say babbers but now and then he'd say baby by accident then say babbers a few seconds later. its all fake. iv lived here all my life and never heard anyone her age talk like that....especially if they are from yate not bristol. emily is from a place near downend in north bristol though some people class it as south glos not bristol.

yes, I understand what you are saying.
I responded by saying that if she hangs around or drinks with with old school dyed in the wool Bristolians then it's completely understandable for her to have picked up those words naturally, IF she didnt use them before.
Like I say, I have no doubt she uses those words in her day to day life, so there is no problem or need to worry.

eh i aint so sure bud, not even the old folk talk like it anymore though. its reaaaaallly rare to hear people talk like that, and she says shes from bristol....but shes from yate.
it just seems to me shes trying for the bristol vote by upping her accent and words. unless she was born n bred around old school bristolians she wouldnt use them words anyway.... no one just adds new words to there vocab cus they heard someone say it in the pub lol

lol of course they do! :)
I think you are digging for something that just isnt there tbh... She lives in Bristol so she says she is from Bristol, I really don't see any issue with that.
Wasson abowt...She might hang with ppl from Southmead, Knowle West or Hartcliffe or Bemmy, you know hard core Bristolians, they all speak like her and with an even thicker accent.
BTW Top night las night wernit!

there are a lot of people from bristol all of a sudden on these boards... must be why they are all such experts on her accent
can't be that they just take any excuse to say anything negative, even if they know **** all about whats being discussed.

I live quite close to Bristol and go up there often for shopping and that. Yeah.. Her accent is very Bristolian. It's a strong Bristolian accent but it's definitely genuine. My grandad comes from Bristol and he sounds just like a manly Josie.

i still think she is putting it on a bit, even more so now i know shes from yate (til recently) it doesnt matter where she hangs around peoples dilect dont change, i used to go to a pretty much all black school.... i didnt talk black. where u from bristolbird?
iv lived here 25yrs and only ever heard old people talk like josie does (the words she uses) dont get me wrong i have a very heavy bristolian accent but i dont say me ole mucker etc etc even though i grew up around people who did and neither does anyone i know... well apart from my aunty lol shes got the strongest accent and dilect iv ever heard
oh btw her aunty was on the phone on bblb and doesnt have a strong accent

they do....if they are fake, how else can you just change the words you say.... cus u think they sound cool so you say them.... thats fake aint it? like all them tw@ts who try and talk black but in reality its made up words not even patois (real jamacian language)
i doubt she spoke it before as she lived in yate. most people who talk like that live in somerset/shepton mallet. bristolian is pretty much a toned down version from them

it is 100% normal to adopt the words and inflections of the people you live and socialise with.
It dosent make you fake, it makes you human.

hmmm no it aint. my missus lived in kent for 18yrs then moved here.... she doesnt copy us bristolians or use any bristol words at all. if she woke up one morning talking bristolian as funny as it would be it would be fake. like i said i like josie and id support any REAL bristolian no matter what they did. i just think shes putting it on for the cameras a bit

Nope it isnt honest i do not talk like that no one i know talks like that i dont know anyone who isnt in a comic or cartoon that dose, in saying that i am not a traverler so im edinburgh and glasgow, maybe up north you,d here that maybe not apart from our family in glasgow they sound a tad like that, but not as put on as you have wrote if you know what i meen.
Loadsa teens use bristle vocab like scuttler, baity, havin a beamer on, throwin a benny, cacks, keener etc, she not got as thick an accent or as wide a bris vocab as many but she sounds genuine enough to me.
I dont know why yer making such a flaming t'do bout it ya big dollop.

Sure she may turn it up a notch for comedy at times...like, so what?
Thats normal. Bristolians know they have a comedy accent to most others.

her accent is real, it does not sound that strong to me cos i live 5 mins from where she does, never met her thow but we do use all those words like mucker and lover and alright! my boyfiends calls every one his mucker! anyone who thinks she is fake should not think that she is wicked and i love her cos she is from where i am from! and i think hjonh james is really good for her and he has been nicer since he met her all them weeks ago!! go josie you rock my mucker!

I think her accent is true, she often talks very fast and if an accent is put on then thats where you find out if its not genuine, Josie talks fast and it stays the same, so in supoort of her on that I don't think she's putting anything on, I like her accent actually,I really cannot see why someone on here dragged Ben into this, his certainly is not put on, he has just been well educated and is articulate, speaking what is called the Queens English. That is impossible to put on because any accent you have will feed through, you either speak that way or you don't.
Before epople say actors put posh accents on, they do for films etc, filming only bits at a time, to talk like that if you normally don't all day every day would be impossible.
Back to the point, I think Josie's accent is totally genuine and its something I like about her too.
