Tough question if your asking is he crazy then Id say no, but I would say he is a recovering alcoholic and alot of his actions/rambles are down to that which is not his fault.

I think he is a mixture of
nervous due to being on public display again
a bit manic in reality anyway
over compensating his behaviour in the light of what has happened
desperate to be noticed and possibly make it back on tv in the uk
I dont think he is proper lock him away nuts....yet.

I don't think it is his personality but he definelity not crazy! He might just have nervous habits or might just be really bored! Mabye he is trying to get some attention. He seems like it is tough for him in there and may just be trying to distract himself and others from how scared he actually feels

Recovering alcoholics can suffer from insomnia, anxiety, depression and their general personality can change. I dont see this as attention seeking at all from him, I dont think he can help it.

I just think he's a bit depressed to be honest he has had it tough lately... plus being in rehab 8 times does mean he has had a few problems in the past which he might still be trying to kick.

A lot of crap has been written about him in the papers and he's obviously worried about people's perception of him.
He's always been a bit unpredictible and can make a fool of himself, like his antics during award shows when he ripped out the autocue and grabbed newsreader Mary Nightingale turning her upside down.

I know about recovering alcoholics - & their problems - I am one & have been for 10 years - I don't mean insanity & cart him off. I agree he looks like one of the "in-mates" at my re-hab live in, where I saw a lot of different behaviour, - some were bordering on mental illness tendancies!!! - especially new arrivals, including me! That's my point, I think it's too early for him to be inthe public eye with the issues still to the fore. When he heard the others talking about him while he was in bed - won't have helped. The significant part of that was this though - see if you agree - IF he has recovered enough, & is mentally stable enough to take this on then I believe he should have gone into the kitchen & fronted them up, not confrontational but join in the conversation. I would have, - to run back to bed & hide under the covers - was running away, insecurity causes people to eavesdrop & can lead to problems - thoughts run away with you -(they're talking about me behind my back, -they're out to get me etc..) Traci was defending & praising him for admitting he was Gay earlier, yet he hasn't thanked her or acknowledged that - he has simply taken on board that he is being talked about - lying in bed after, staring into space - too much thinking going on. Anywat this is too deep - I don't think he's insane, but, he has NOT recovered his mental state enough yet to take this on - I admire his motive but his erratic behaviour proves he's not ready & could, & probably will result in more harm than good - A "go-back" not a "come-back" is what I see & I feel sorry for him. 10 years on, I still have slight problems around drinkers - but, I can easily manage now - thank god! I wish him good luck with his recovery but doubt if it's coming through CBB

Barrymore's made it clear he misses the limelight and appearing on television, and appearing on BB is his way of winning back the hearts and minds of the nation and people who he believes sees his actions, indirectly or directly, lead to the death of a young man (hence his confession of hiding his face from people when out on the streets esxpecting them to give him abuse).
Barrymore isn't young and time is against him. So sometimes when an opportunity like appearing on a realityy TV show arises you take it and hope something good comes out of it.

I understand where your coming from but I think with his issues everyone is different and only being the person himself can decide if he is ready or not to take something on. The fact that he has gone on the show is a plus it shows he isnt hiding anymore and he personally thinks he is ready to come back and actually do something. When your in a house like bb things will seem weird for a while. When i watche dhim first few nights I was thinking hmm he is kind of odd the way he does random things but his talk with Jodie especially showed that he is very intelligent and he was guiding her to seek some kind of help something which he has done/is doing. I think it shall be interested to watch a week or so into things and how he reacts to certain celebs leaving the show.
