Rachel described herself as going out with "knobheads" so guess she is used to that kind of humour.

ah....meh not bothered. A percentage of mixed raced people are more in connection with their white side than their black side. Seeing rachel's friends on bblb in her house it seemed like she doesn't have black friends

Well i'm also from liverpool as she is so I know the history of the city and its involvement in the slave trade, but the term "off the boaters" comes from there involvement in the slave trade where there ports were used to ship en-slaved africans over to Britan.
Just thought that was abit un 'pc' especially for a show like big brother :/

Ermm, youre a liar! Thats not what it means at all. It has nothing to do with slavery, and only with immigration! But since you have 2 posts, I am assuming youre just a troll!

I would like you to know that the above is incorrect.
Ships did not bring slaves into Liverpool. Any people of African gene pool were free men in this country.
Ships left Liverpool with goods to trade with arabs in Africa who were running the slavery business. Arabs had previously raided the south coast of England and Eire taking people into slavery and it was part of their heritage.
The Africans were taken in chains to the West Indies in english ships.
The ships then returned to Liverpool carrying sugar and rum.
Slavery was never legal in this country.
Coming off a boat may refer to anyone and in my region it used to be more likely to be referred to someone who had come from Ireland.
Just stepped off a boat refers to someone being naive, that is unfamiliar with the way things work.
In the BB house it might be said about Andrew.

It has nothing to do with slavery, It's to do with immigration. Believe it or not, it's pretty easy to get a tan outside of the UK.

For anyone who didn't get the bleeped word, Rachael was talking about the so-called banana boat, the term used for the way black people originally got to the UK. Used to be derogatory, now dropped into obscurity. Hence the mystified comments :-)

did she use it as a way of intimidating Rachel??? if she did then it becomes racist otherwise it doesn't mean anything IMO
Know your history....'straight off the banana boat' is a reference to people coming to the UK from the Caribbean. It was used mostly by other Caribbean people to describe the newly arrived as they had little idea how to dress for the British weather or in the fashion of the time.
It was the cheapest way to get to the UK to come with the cargoes of bananas ...on the banana boats.

I used to here the the term banana boat all the time when I was a bit younger. Still do form time to time. It was always used in reference to a persons stupidity or intelligence.

I'm Irish and in the 1950's and 60's people coming from Ireland to UK via Hollyhead or Liverpool used to say they had come on the 'cattle boat.' So Rachel would have been describing what many elderly Black would have described without it being a race issue.

No slaves actually came to Liverpool, ships would take goods from Lpool to Africa, unload the goods, load slaves and take them straight to the US, Carribean and other places.

From the middle of the 1700s, Liverpool was the biggest slave port in Europe. Having said that... Jezuz... what a fuss over a throw-away comment.
