Can you turn off the avatars, and all the stuff that slows the forum down.

It worked last night.

I appreciate someone put 5 stars agin my thread.

Some posters include trailers of corrie in their sig, etc. That must wreck the forum.

Clear the junk when the forum is busy. That's all I'm asking.

Are signatures still shown, including the massive photographs? I have them turned off, just wondered if they were shown when avatarsdare disabled by the site.

It would probably help if some people didn't have signatures which were up to (and sometimes over) about 600x600 as well.

Yes, the annoying and massive (and often animated GIF) avatars in signatures are still shown.
Why people can't keep their signatures to simple and unannoying text I don't know ... newbies?

Why is this in the BB11 section?

They add nothing to the forum, except making threads a little less easy to parse and increase load on the servers.

Well it's slow for the rest of us.

Try removing your 392,487 byte (383kb) signature, it'll help speed things up not only for you, but for everybody else.

The avatars aren't the problem - they're restricted by size.

It's the large photos (and sometimes animated GIFs which are even more expensive in terms of size) in peoples signatures that are the main problem.

Shouldn't this question be directed at the admin, not the mods?

No, you have it wrong. The avatars are on the same server as this forum, the Gifs and sigs are hosted by other sites.

No my friend - you have it wrong. It doesn't matter which server the images are hosted on, they must be downloaded by us the users (unless we have signatures turned off in our options).

A download is a download - it doesn't matter where the images are hosted.

Then why not turn them off in your user cp, saves any arguments dont it?

Then why have signatures at all if we have to turn them off simply because a small percentage abuse them with large file images???

There should be some middle ground, that is all I am saying. I didn't start this thread - I just understand the OP's frustrations.

The signatures should just be words. Not great big photo collages

Same argument works the other way, why not allow people to have banners, logos whatever, if it slows individual people down they can remove the option to view them, cant they?

It doesnt slow everyone down, some days even when the forums are very busy I can open a page at a reasonably fast pace and its full of huge signatures.

If you dont like them or they slow your computer opening a page, turn them off its no great shakes is it?

Thing is the admin staff may have to go through every single members profile and there is a lot in order to remove people with overlarge or multiple banners. Just a quick glance at the signature input, shows its open to abuse by uploading one and linking to others.
