Simon Cowell is reportedly planning to release tracks of the live X Factor performances each week.

Cowell wants each contestant's performance to be available for immediate download after seeing the success and chart domination of Glee, according to the Daily Star Sunday.

A source said: "Simon is determined to make this year’s show the biggest and the best yet. And he knows the best way to do that is by making each week’s live performances available for fans to download.

"The X Factor could potentially have the number one spot every week for more than three months. In theory, they could take up every spot in the top ten for the majority of the run.

"There’s talk of having 16 finalists this time around instead of 12. And even when it gets down to the end of the show, the singers perform twice, making more songs available for fans. It would make it incredibly hard for any new acts to have an impact on the charts. Even the major artists would think twice about releasing singles in the lucrative run-up to Christmas.

"Nothing has been confirmed or decided at this stage. There’s a lot of things that need to be agreed and arranged before they can pull this off. But Simon knows it would make The X Factor an even bigger machine than it is at the moment.

"The danger is it could start an out-and-out war with people boycotting the show."

I think they do this with American Idol, so It can't be too bad, they shoulda done it last year :p

They overestimate the XF's ability to sell music, even when an old song resurfaces in the charts after a performance it never claims number 1 and rarely makes it into the top 10. I can see them doing as well as Glee though (a lot of hits in from 10th to 40th), but if anyone manages to make it into the Top 10 on a performance I'll be surprised.

It'll be like last year where the guests dominated the charts, these performances won't affect much really.

well I have wanted them to release the performances for a long time. But the fact that it says the whole top 10 for three months might be x factor performances really puts me off! No thanks!! That would be awful!

I'm sure they'll just be iTunes releases, therefore, if it gets #1, it will be a huge achievement, as it's on downloads alone.

Sounds good, except the part about the singer's performing twice. That's seriously too much pressure, IMO.

Good idea.

It could ruin the winner for us though. If one artist keeps on charting higher than the others each week then it's gonna be pretty obvious who is gonna win.

Not necessarily, if you look at the voting figures from last year, it wasn't until about week 8 where Joe became the clear favorite, and because the bookies have faves etc there's not much difference.
