I'd go along to 'see for myself' ... ONLY to attempt an understanding of what their (Christian) beliefs actually are.
Join them ... not a chance!!! (Based on what IS known about them re: fairies, werewolves, flying to the sun and the maniacal 'laughing')

No, I wouldn't go. Does anyone here go to church (or temple/mosque/synagogue etc.) on a regular basis anyway?

Nationally, you mean? I was just wondering if people wouldn't go to Dave's church because they aren't believers, or do they just not agree with his particular dogma... I guess it's a much bigger question than I thought it would be.

Yes

but even these stats are suspect

Dave's thing is a cult hatched from a cult. Essentially he is using Christianity to justify his behaviour but in the end it is just another quest for status.

I'm all for freedom of expression when it comes to people's beliefs. But I have to admit to being a little uncomfortable about Dave's... cult, if you want to call it that... and I tend to agree with you.

None of the other papers will give him space and I couldn't find anything in the Daily Star except his entry into BB (which incidentally, St Dave himself says GOD TOLD him He was opening the door for him to "spread the word" Or summat like that! Maybe he was "high at the time!)

I don't believe he is evil or misguided, he's found a way of life that lets him jaunt all over the world at no cost to himself, so he has simply adopted this lifestyle but his constant stupid attempts to convince other people that GOD talks to him and angels transport him to impossible locations and his pathetic attempts at feigning drunkenness by reading a Bible are just that, pathetic and stupid!

it is just addictive behaviour substitution. happens all the time to alcoholics.

Well if he believes the rubbish that he spouts (& that's a big "if") then he must be mentally unstable...

If however he does not believe the tripe he comes out with, then he is conning people & some of those he cons are vulnerable people such as ones with terminal illness which he claims he can cure, then that is quite evil...

Though conning cancer victims, if you believe what you are saying/doing or not, is pretty low & evil in my book anyway...

LeatherTrumpet

he obviously did not go to the sun or has seen angels and all the other supernatural guff so it is safe to say it is a fake situation

Can't argue with that. Although I think all religions offer a kind of false hope to people who are suffering. Lourdes, for instance, is an enormous business. I know some people claim miracles, but I think I'd put that down to the placebo effect.

I wouldnt go to ANY church, had enough of that growing up.Met plenty of people like Dave, and while they are harmless enough,a lot do behave like this, and have to say,it does really get on your tits.I think this whole "drunk" thing, is an attempt to try and make religion cool, like christian rock music...very ...very cringy.

No. I wonder how he earns his cash to keep his family in the manner to which they have become accustomed. Is this the American Evangelical way I wonder? Perhaps he needs the winnings if things are getting tight.
Not sure what church he belongs to but I doubt his God will be very proud.

He has already explained where the money comes from - old news! And how do you know what lifestyle his family have become accustomed to - do they own a string of Rolls Royce's or something!
