I would imagine the producers did it to stop him leaving, yes...but I am not so sure it was due to favouritism, considering how badly he has been shown recently. I would say that they wanted to keep him there to ensure he would leave properly tomorrow, to a chorus of boos, so as to give the voters exactly what they have paid for.

According to other posters....John James was allowed a phone call from Nathan this morning, to stop the coward from leaving, by Nathan re-assuring him that he wont be waiting for him at his eviction!!
