View Full Version : Auto-Tune use on X Factors auditions?

It appears that producers have auto-tuned certain voices, I mean just listen to the female from G&S during Don't Stop Believing, you can CLEARLY hear that her vocals have been subject of auto-tune.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvSEpZEAqfY

Also, during Shirlena Johnson's audition it is clear that producers have auto-tuned her vocals between 2:19 and 2:45.

This is all over the media today. I expect they'll lose viewers with this.

We all know the show is fake in a lot of ways.. the sob-stories.. the uplifting music when they want the 'feel good' moment.. the editing designed to sway the public opinion.. but using auto tune is a step too far.

Some will try to justify it's use by saying that a high percentage of artists in the charts use it, as do TV programmes like Glee. But X-Factor is supposed to be about who can sing the best, not who's voice responds better to pitch-correction software.

I switched off midway through when it became clear they were using it, and I won't be watching any more of it this year.

I noticed this last night, it also is on Gamu's audition.

I haven't seen the episode yet, but this sickens me.

I've been saying for years that IMO the tone of the voice is more important to me than the pitch, but really X factor?

This is just treating the audience like idiots. I mean now they can autotune their favourites and just leave the others which they don't like.

I'll watch the first episode today, if it's as bad as said then I won't watch it.

I completely agree guys. Absolutely disgusting. I've written a formal complaint to ITV, if I don't get a reply I will be phoning them.

Kinda ruins the point of the auditions, I hope to GOD it isn't used in the live rounds

Shirlena Johnson plagiarising Duffy without realising it. Some people have absolutely no self awareness. That was dire.

Yeah it was pretty obvious.

I wonder what some of them would have sounded like without autotune.

How sad and desperate.

I mean yes it is fine to be used in Glee or on international superstars for example.. but in a competition like this..... no. Just your pure voices please!!!!

The X Factor also made NO reference to the fact that Gisela Lee from JAHM auditioned last year alone.

omg

Jords
22-08-2010, 03:21 PM
It goes against the whole point of the show to find somebody who can SING!

Im gonna carry on watching the show but do find it wrong that some of the auditions are auto tuned. I really do hope that the live shows are not.

It's not as if it enhances their voices either. It's actually really horrible to listen to

A spokesman for The X Factor, while not admitting the "autotune" charge, conceded that post-production work was necessary because the show used 48 microphones. It was, he said, for the viewers' benefit and such sound techniques employed were "all quite usual". Furthermore, it did not affect the judge's decision.

"The judges make their decisions at the audition stage based on what they hear on the day, live in the arena," he said. "The footage and sound is then edited and dubbed into a finished programme, to deliver the most entertaining experience possible for viewers."

Their not even denying it.

Yeah it was noticeable on her performance too, Gamu is her name. It was also noticeable on some parts of Katie's performance.

On the last woman who sang, it was pretty obvious. You could hear the notes change as she was singing them.

Wholly craap!! Thats disgraceful! They have lost all the credibility they had left with that one!
What a rip off!
Makes you wonder how bad the crop of talent they got this year!

The Statement put out by the X Factor Office (GMTV, Radio5)
say it was recorded Live , UnCut first.
Then after they dubbed in the Auto Tune Box to improve all the sounds.

At least they admit it now.

They claim that on the Voting Live Shows
No Auto Tune is used.

That's not the point. We don't base our favourites on what we see in the finals alone. Why are they trying to manipulate their voices? Wait, don't answer that. We all know why...

I can't believe they did this.
