Is anyone else excited about this movie?

I loved the first one, prefered the second, disliked the third, and hoped the fourth would redeem the franchise but sadly it didn't.

But this time I'm more excited about this one for numerous reasons. The new writer is Eric Heisserer who wrote the Nightmare on Elm Street remake, which I'm told was one of the better remakes of recent years. The director is Steven Quale who worked with James Cameron and has a better understanding of 3-D films than David R. Ellis did on Final Destination 4. And Tony Todd from films 1 and 2 is returning. :D

My only criticism is its working title of '5Nal Destination' but maybe that'll change.

'5nal Destination'?! Don't like that at all!

Will see what it's like but I'm starting to give up on the series tbh.

Yeah, apparently it's the trend with Scream 4 being labelled as 'Scre4m'.

I was hoping no. 4 would be better because of David R. Ellis returning as director. Both his films weren't just about killing teenagers, there was more of an age range and it made it that little bit mature, but no. 4 just rushed straight in to action rather than set-up the story, and the music was rushed and frantic rather than the eerie, suspenseful music of films 1-3.

I read some interesting articles about the writer and he's confident he knows why the first 2 worked and that he'll get over the repetition of films 3 and 4. So that and a good director hopefully means it'll be a goodun'.

Release date is August 26th 2011, so it's sooner than thought too

Lol it was supposed to be the last but despite the bad reviews it did quite well financially.

Hopefully the title will change because I remember the fourth one was originally called 'Final Destination: Death Trip 3D'

Lol, I like to be literal.

I liked that in the first film you never exactly saw why the plane crashed, you just witnessed it all going awry and got the explanation later. I think that's where films 2, 3 and 4 are different because they spent time following a lot of careless obstacles. In particular, the fourth one wasn't just one car flipping in to the audience, it was the weak fence, the slippery oil spillage, the wrench, the poor woodwork, the weak concrete etc. It just seemed too unsafe to be real. Atleast the first one, and second, were a bit more subtle.

Which FD was the one where the plane blew up?

I watched that the day before I went abroad for the first time, scared the life out of me!

I do like all of them but the series does seem to be losing momentum.

Lol, ta. The guy's been hired to write the remake of The Thing as well so the studios seem to think he's capable of resurrecting horror franchises.

FD1 was the plane crash
FD2 was the motorway accident
FD3 was the rollercoaster collapse
FD4 was the race track disaster

Lol, I foolishly watched all the first 3 just before going to Florida. The amount of highways and rollercoasters there plus the 8 hour flight. Was kinda glad to be home lol

Sick as in "What a horrible way to go"? Or sick as in "This film has damaged the credibility of the others"? Lol.

*SPOILER!*

It's been reported one of the deaths in FD5 involves laser eye surgery. That could sound tacky like 3 and 4, but it could be done as well as films 1 and 2 were

I hope the 5th one is going to be as good as 1 and 2......

I think it looks great (well, the graphics for the suspension bridge collapse not so much) but I love the series.. the 4th with the head-to-head water death scene which you didnt know who was gonna die I thought was a great idea.

Lol I posted that in August and I still haven't seen the Nightmare On Elm Street remake. Someone else told me it was good but fair enough if it's generally panned.

Marketing. Like how Saw 5's tagline was "You won't believe how it ends" thus a lot of people who didn't know a 6th one had bene greenlit since the 3rd assumed the fifth one would be the last. Although apparently THE Final Destination was intended to be the final movie but then it turned out to be the most commerically successful.

Plus I think having Tony Todd back might make this one more connected with the first 2. And the "Kill or be killed" angle is refreshingly dark.

Kill or be killed, I like the sound of the direction it's going in. Slasher/supernatural.

Totally. Will definately be interesting to see how it pans out. Tony Todd said if FD5 is a hit then a 6th and 7th would be filmed back-to-back. Hopefully they'd be original as well.

Yepp, makes a change from trying to save everybody!

The eye laser surgeory clip :/

That was probably one of the few good moments of the 4th movie because the viewer didn't know which one it would be. And again, the idea of the survivors looking as if they're turning on one another is delightfully different and dark

Like I said, THE Final Destination (2009) was marketed as the last and apparently was going to but despite the negative reviews made the most money out of them. Also, originally it was just going to be titled Final Destination 4 or at one point, Final Destination: Death Trip 3-D

Remember Final Destination 2's tagline was "Everything that has a beginning has an end" but that was referring to the storyline as 2 was a direct sequel to the first one whereas films 3 and 4 are pretty stand-alone.

Yeah, as much as I loved the first 2 there was still a bit of black humour about the deaths e.g. Sean William Scott's lol. IMO the problem with 3 and 4 were that it became more deliberately comedic like they were less about story and simply for grusome deaths and OTT accidents at the start of the film.

I'm still looking forward to this new one because A) Tony Todd's back meaning it is a sort of continuation to the first 2, and B) it'll be interesting and darker to see the survivors try and kill each other rather them help each other this time round. :D

I always liked the idea of a continuation from the Final Destination 3's ending.

A train disaster would've been great. Better than the race crash in no. 4 anyhow.

I think I disliked 3 cos it had a 'Oh here we go again' feel to it. It's as if it deliberately dumbed down and lightened up to just be an enjoyable popcorn movie than a horror/thriller that makes you think about life and death

I saw FD2 first then FD3 and never really got that feeling probably because of that, after watching FD1 you could tell they had lost originality and were just focussing on tragic accidents like you said though. However I think FD4 was a bit different as it focussed on preventing the particular accident as the clues with given vividly and this new film looks to be very different from them all.

The gymnastic death has actually got to be my absolute favourite ever. It even beats the sunbeds for me, when I was watching I was genuinely feeling nervous and there was so much suspense it was great filming! And the death was kind of random but very very cool :D

Went to see it last night. It was as good as you can expect it to be. You just have to take these films for what they are - a 90 minute popcorn horror flick with gimmicky 3D. They’re never going to be highly rated. However, it was good to see that the efforts didn’t go into making the deaths as gory and stupid as possible like in previous years. Instead they focused on misleading the audience so that some deaths were genuinely surprising. I liked the ending too - didn’t see it coming

When they got on the plane my initial thought was “that’s lame, they’ve already had a plane crash”, but it just didn’t cross my mind that they were on the same plane. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the first one though so Paris didn’t ring any bells.

As far as the gimmicky 3D goes - it was actually done quite well. Didn’t want to see it 3D but was kind of forced to. I’m glad I did because they actually made good use of it compared to most quick-convert films these days.

I'm glad the film was made and I like they didn't go OTT with the deaths. I just wish they had put a bit more thought into the film. She shouldn't have died at the end as she never died on the bridge.

I thought that too, every1 was like errr they ended the final destination films and now they have gone bk on that and made another 1 and its so guna suck, but instead the film makers have been so clever, loved the ending, and as soon as i saw ''flight 180 2000'' i was like WHAT! omg they are on flight 180 its guna xplode get off! lol it made the film for me, and defo the best since FD2.

I hope they do..

They said in an interview somewhere that if FD5 was a success they would film FD6 and FD7 back to back, and the way FD5's going its seems to be doing reli well so fingers crossed we will have 2 more! :) xx

I'm glad the film was made and I like they didn't go OTT with the deaths. I just wish they had put a bit more thought into the film. She shouldn't have died at the end as she never died on the bridge.

To be fair she could have died seconds after the dude having the vision did, but we wouldn't have seen it because he 'woke up' from the vision after dying himself. Or that could have always been the way she was supposed to die.

That'll be good! Oh I am loving the horror film industry at the moment! More Scream films, more final destinations! :amazed:

True but keeping her alive could have given us the next movie! All set up ready

Finally seen it and I loved it! Death scenes were actually tense again, it was definately darker again, the 3D was actually amazing, the idea of taking someone else's life was interesting, the opening disaster was pretty sweet and the end twist was great. Did not see that coming.

If the writers and producers can keep the franchise as good as this movie was then I want FD6 and 7 to happen asap :D

LMAO good luck. If you have any premonitions you might as well just embrace whatever comes your way lol

I found myself trying to suss out why that number's so important in the films but it's probably just a random number picked by the writers kind alike those numbers in Lost. No real meaning in the real world :(

At least you worked out 180 lol. Maybe it's just common sense I lack. Still not gonna attempt to crack the Lost numbers, mind

Marc

LOL My common sense is often on the blink, I'm surprised I could come up with something like that!

Yeah nooo i'm not attempting the Lost ones
