View Full Version : You know what? I don't think I actually want BB to ever return...

I never, ever thought I would say this. Ever. But...well, I don't know. I just don't think I want it to return again. Not because I don't love the show, trust me I do. Not because I think it doesn't have the legs to continue, because I think it does. But because...I just don't want my memories of it to be ruined.
If BB returns to Five next year, chances are, Davina won't be back...and the show will probably be totally different. And...that's not what I want. Whilst I admit Davina is not the greatest presenter in the world, she is fit for this show and it would not feel right without her.
And then if it returned to C4/Five/wherever in five - ten years time, chances are it would be even more different. Different format, theme tune, eye designs gone, house designs gone, completely random presenter, etc etc. And I don't want to witness that either. The thought of my children [if I have any] ending up loving a 'new BB' is something that I don't like. Seeing a show that I once loved, being loved by other people when it's totally different...and I can't explain to them why.
None of this probably makes sense...but, I don't know...without the same core elements it has had for the last ten years, it wouldn't be right.

I totally get what you mean. But if it does come back, i'm just going to think of it as a totally new show. So my old memories arn't damaged within new ones. But heyho for all we know it could end up being good.

It makes perfect sense.
tbh, if it's gonna return and have everything changed about it or be like BB11, I don't want it to return.
Oh **** it I cba to explain. I can only do so by talking properly I just have so much to say its so fucvking annoying!!
Agreed Completely. It's been such a big part of my life now, and it's ended on such a great high, I want to treasure what I have and appreciate what I've had. I love Big Brother, but It is time to say Good-Bye.

This.
I hope they still keep the eye logo and the same music and all that.
However turn it into a bit more like a gameshow.
1st week.. there is a task.. EVERYONE takes part.. the winner is immune from eviction. The loser is automatically put up! The other hms nominate for another 2 people to be up for eviction. etc..

I would like it to return. Having said that, it will be a bit weird having had an Ultimate House mate contest and then to have another normal series.

Well said, I said this a few days ago that even if it comes back, BB ends for me tonight and I couldnt be happier my favourite Housemate of all time won The Ultimate.

The last few series were the sick, wounded BB. It's now dead. And should be buried.
Could agree more.
Piss off BB.
Now that kind of attitude is just unnecessary. :nono:

This is how i am feeling right now.
Id rather it go now whilst i still love it and want more than it to drone on even longer and i become tired of it.

Me neither. I'm glad it ended on a high and as much as I will miss it,I don't want it back after it ended so amazingly.

Mate you have been watching it for 2 years, Ive had to put up with this **** for 8 years and I would only consider about 6 out of the 22 series, worth rewatching.
Im allowed an attitude.

I couldn't do that though. I would have to watch it out of pure loyalty towards the show. And curiosity.

I know what you mean in a way.
I'd sorta like it to come back in a year's time or something though. But right now it does seem a good time for it to end.

Yeah very true, it lost the magic even before the non existent race row....

BB has ended on a very low, dead wimper with this year.
At least a winner from the best time of BB won though, would have been horrific if Josie won.
Each to their own. Tonight made me realise that I dont want the show to end more than anything

I feel the same.
But from my perspective as someone who watch and loved BB from the start, while I grew up, BB dumbed down and lost any integrity with the obviously biased story-lines and disproportional punishments that only a credulous audience could overlook.
I hope that if it comes back that the new producers stick to the original ethos of the show rather than forsaking all in favour of ratings.

IMO, it ended on a high last night and im sure it made many people cry... if it was to come back, i'd say around 5 years time.

I agree. It should be done and dusted now. I love the show but at times it's just better quit while you're ahead.
Because it's been so popular, the people that audition to it are not the kind of people I'd like to see on telly. People who are there for the fame, not for the experience like it used to be. If they revive it, I hope it's not as bad as Nikki going back to the house in BB7.

I like it enough to be happy it's over. In some ways I wish it had ended the night Rachel Rice won and that would have been such a wonderful final going out on top after a superb season.
I was disappointed when it turned trashy in BB10 and I am relieved that wasn't the last because then it would leave a bad taste behind.
I liked BB11 but it wasn't quite resolved as a triumph,
but,
UBB did the right thing. So it feels 'right' now. It feels good leaving it now.
The worst thing that can happen to my BB memories?
If C5 got this and did make a 'cheap sequel' trying to emulate this era or even try and call it 'BB12',
no no no.
Unlike the OP I would actually prefer it does come back one day (not too soon) as a completely refreshed next-generation and entirely distinguished re-imagining of it's own.
Of course with the original concepts and basic rules (so that would be different ahem).
But yeah.. it may well be this is the last we see of it for a long time.

....Of course with the original concepts and basic rules (so that would be different ahem)....
This for me would be paramount.
According to the Orwellian model the eponymous Big Brother was an unyielding and darkly authoritative figure. The first few seasons of our BB had this vibe (in a village fête kind of way) but gradually his integrity crumbled until you get to the point where HMs can actually demand a phone call to the outside world or they will walk.
In my mind, a dedicated panel of independent stewards that the production team deferrer to on plot matters would be a positive step to eliminate nepotism and decisions based upon perceived ratings.
Davina mentioned that this year more than any the production team had so much more fun behind the scenes than previously. I think that you could tell this from this side of the telly screen. If they had spent more effort on producing a quality show rather than jacking off back stage BB really could have gone out with a bang.

One of the most fascinating aspects was watching what happened when HMs went longer and longer without any contact with anyone else (and knew none was coming).
All kinds of subtle (or alarming) relationship twists, turns, trusts would develop.
Now, none of that matters. If (for example) one has isolated themselves from a group they don't need to find ways to overcome it and we don't see any such socio-psychological story pan out..
..because now they know it will just be a few days before new housemates arrive.
Or some guests to stay for some tasks.
Or their family will appear.
Or some celebrities will make appearances.
People may think that is so exciting when a new group of HMs arrived but they don't realize what it killed and lost.
Yeah, the original concept and something more truly orwellian would be great again imo
Then some say a 'Huxleyian' (if i can make that word) world might be what they were going for towards the end and that may be more disturbing and more relevant.
Maybe even the most disturbing is that nobody really noticed it!
In my mind, a dedicated panel of independent stewards that the production team deferrer to on plot matters would be a positive step to eliminate nepotism and decisions based upon perceived ratings.
I know BB does have to make money but yes I'd love to see something in place that takes away the temptation to sell-out their own premise for short-term ratings spikes even when they cheat the long-term investors.

I surely did notice that and it is probably one of the reasons BB11 can't quite break into my top 3.
It could have.. it really did have some potential but far too many times they were taking a break from the premise and instead of moving that 'arc' along they were all but sabotaging it.
I guess they had fun backstage or what?
But it did hurt the season I totally agree.

Maybe now you just might be able to understand the views of some of the viewers/members who are old enough to remember the early series of bb and witness how the original ethos of the show changed completely - into a trashy ratings war - and how they feel about the demise in quality of the show!
You don't see it because you were too young to remember it - you just know what is familiar to you - which is exactly what you say you don't want to see happen to your kids/future generations! What goes around, comes around!

If it ever does return they do need to re-vamp it. Otherwise it will not last long.
TV should evolve. Theyve already messed with the concept to a very large degree(allowing outside contact for instance) anyways.
But a break is needed.

I know how you feel. It would definitely get a little too weird for me if they didn't have good ol' Element Four as the theme tune. And if they ditched the idea of the eye changing every year? I think that would be crossing the line. I want BB to carry on changing in the ways it has been in CBB7/BB11. The creativity and sometimes genius of the twists and tasks is what brings new viewers to the series imo. I just hope if it ever does turn up on C5 that they know not to change to much as they could alienate a whole bunch of viewers.
