How do people develop them? Like not everyone has them, and some have them more extreme than others. Is it some deep rooted thing caused by childhood, like an eviroment thing? Or does it go deeper?

You have loads of Them.
I often wondered how some of them, like pain, could ever be a turn-on.
According to wiki (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sexual_fetishism#Psychological_origins_and_develop ment)"modern psychology assumes that fetishism either is being conditioned or imprinted or the result of a strong emotional (i.e., traumatic) experience. Physical factors like brain construction and heredity are also considered possible explanations"

"Cognitive behavior therapy seeks to change a person's behavior without analyzing how and why it has shown up. Rather than focusing on the origins of fetishes, cognitive behavior therapy is built on the empirical study of interventions that alleviate the distress associated with them."

I seem to remember reading it starts in adolescence something to do with people having trouble forming relationships with others and associating arousal with certain objects instead of people...summat like that

Yeah I get what you mean. Think I've read something similar.

Yeah I heard similar things and life and your social groups (both family and friends) are thought to impact the type of people you're attracted to or at least fantasise about. For example in men if you lack a father figure its expected to turn you gay/bi and fantasise over older men, likewise with girls lacking a father figure and wanting an older boyfriend. The same also applies to lack of mother figure. And if you've got an older same sex sibling thats also meant to make you more prone to being gay.
Its all Freudian and it does sound really creepy with his explanations but in the wider picture, he does make a lot of sense with it.
