On Ch4 News
and SkyNewsHD
Anglo Irish Bank is a problem.
And now €uro Funds are getting used
to save these banks and the mess.
We're screwed for a decade or more.

It's an insane amount of money, something like €66,000,000,000 they reckon, for a population of 4,000,000.
We are going to have the most savage of cuts and a very very long winter of discontent.

Front headlines of the paper are "Black Thursday"
It's the credit-crunch, only supersized. We went mad building houses and selling them to one another. Now we've about 300,000 too many houses that aren't worth a lot.
Here's an indicator of how crazy it got; land in parts of Dublin was the most expensive in the world.

Ah well there will be a few bankers going without bonuses in Dublin next year eh?
Cutting the link to Sterling in 1979 and joining the ERM might have let them join the free money club, and Ireland did quite well out of Europe for a number of years.
But expecting that being a member of the Euro club would sustain their economy and allow them to carry on with their self perpetuated housing boom wasnt the brightest way for the banks to make money.

William Joyce (April 24, 1906 – January 3, 1946), nicknamed Lord Haw-Haw, was a fascist politician and Nazi propaganda broadcaster to the United Kingdom during the Second World War. He was hanged for treason by the British as a result of his wartime activities.
Joyce was born on Herkimer Street in Brooklyn, NY [2] to a Protestant mother and an Irish Catholic father who had taken United States citizenship. A few years after his birth the family returned to Galway, Ireland. He attended the Jesuit St Ignatius College in Galway from 1915 to 1921. Unusually for Irish Roman Catholics, both Joyce and his father were strongly Unionist

I'm sure George Bernard Shaw would have been delighted to have been mentioned alongside him.
Oh I don't know...
Shaw was a proponent of the theory of "eugenics" that believed in the improvement of the human race through selective reproduction.[69] Advocates of this theory feared society was at risk due to a declining gene pool because inferior people were breeding much more rapidly than the better ones. They advocated for public policies that would prevent this. Shaw claimed only eugenics could save mankind.[70] Shaw even suggested people should have to regularly appear before a board to justify their existence
Shaw also called for the development of a "deadly" but "humane" gas for the purpose of killing those unfit to live.
A few more famous people: Brendan Behan, Samuel Beckett, Michael Gambon, Phil Lynott, Peter O'Toole, Richard Harris..

What a bullsh*t statement.
Ireland is 10 times better than countries like America,
Yes it doesn't have the big cities, the massive movies, the epic Real World etc
But it's got far friendlier people and a better atmosphere than places like London, LA, Iraq and I was going to say Australia but Idk about them.
Tbh, I'd rather live in a place like that than somewhere were everyone is busy and bitter all the time, I haven't been to London but I heard it's pretty much like that.

It's Official Greens To Pull Out Of Governement In January
The Greens have called time on the Government - and say an election should be held in January.
The party says it wants to pass a budget and negotiate the loans with the I-M-F, but that the Taoiseach must immediately set the date for polling day.
Meanwhile, Longford Westmeath Fianna Fail TD Mary O'Rourke wants a vote on the Party's leadership in January.
Earlier today Cork's Noel O'Flynn called for the Taoiseach to resign saying he felt betrayed and humiliated by the events of the last few weeks.
Deputy O'Rourke says the future of Fianna Fail also needs to be discussed.
Elsewhere, opposition parties say the move by the Greens is too little too late.
The Labour Party say it appears the Green Party have had a "death bed conversion".
While Sinn Féin has accused the party of denying the people of Ireland an immediate an election.

The €uro Zone has problems with Greece burning more money and not improving
and Other Nations are Destroying the €uro.
You can not stop market traders betting on which nation will fall
its a Open Market but in the €uro Zone it is not a open playing field.

But surely because I could vote i shouldnt have to re-register? I think this will have a huge turnout, people HAVE to vote.
No, you shouldn't have to at all Eoin, how do you check if you're registered? I have been able to vote in everything since I was 18 but you've put a doubt in my head now, maybe that's how Fianna Fáil are planning to stay in un-reigister everyone and when they all turn up to vote they're turned away!:joker:
Fianna Fail's upcoming election slogans revealed :
'Oops, lol!'.
'EAT THE DAMN CHEESE!'.
'Ein Volk, Ein Reich, Ein Biffo'.

for any Irish you have to do this tomorow to vote next year.
I need to stop watching Vincent Browne before I start getting nightmares. Its €343 billion at least, €6,000 off all our wages for next few years. I really want to leave the sinking ship like ... right now. I hear constantly about young people having no job or money so they hop off and emigrate.
But where do fook do they get the money from to DO that?
It's strange because I didn't closely start following Irish politics until very recently, so I guess my lack of knowledge scares me as much as the future itself. I can't picture in practical, everyday terms how bad the crisis will affect us because I'm in a security blanket so to speak. I can't get work but apart from that I'm in college and living with my parents so I'm not THAT bad off.
But just the idea of living in a country where people cannot afford as much, enjoy themselves as much and as a result won't be as happy as they could be depresses me. I mean ... I'm determined to enjoy Christmas but even that doesn't feel the same.
Six years time will mark the 100th anniversary of the signing of the proclamation of independence. With any luck we will only be starting to drag ourselves out of the hole by then.

I've got money saved for the past few years that i havent touched and I basically told my dad something he agreed with, he was gonna leave me money when he dies so I said could i not put it towards leaving here, he was more than happy told me I should have asked him months ago... (I would have but it was all very morbid you know)
Edit: My "D" button is on the fritz....if some of that dont make sense.

Canada seems to be the place to be for people jumping ship, it seems. You'd be well sorted for ganja. The place has a huge ganja culture and very, very relaxed laws. Especially in Vancouver. They don't call it 'Vansterdam' for nothing!

Yeah I nearly have a job sorted aswell that will sponsor me for the year hopefully, then in 6 months from when I get there I'll apply for a 2 year extension. Just need to sort accomodation, the money I'm required to bring and flights......and then see when they will let me go.
