If you have to have a licence to drive a car, why isn't a licence to have children introduced? There are some people in this world who should NEVER have children, and this case highlights why. You only have to look around you to see the products of rubbish parenting. My heart breaks for this toddler - who knows how such trauma will affect him in the future?

Angus58 is totally correct, its time more was done to protect children and babies in particular. Some people are just not fit to be Parents at all.

Being facetious is why these lowlife scum get away with it. Did you see the look of fear and bewilderment on this child's face? If you condone cruelty to a 22 month old BABY there is something seriously wrong with how you're wired.

That "joke" landed the mother three years in prison. Actually, come to think of it, maybe introducing a license to have children isn't such a bad idea. Mandatory abortion for anybody who fails the test and still gets preggo.

The actual incident isn't funny, but the jokes that are made about it are. It's called dark/'sick' humour. It's the same in all cases. The Maddie McCann case was awful...but the jokes are hilarious. Same applies to the Fritzl case etc. It's got nothing to do with 'how we're wired', we just have a different sense of humour [dare I say a better one].

I'm a fan of Armando Iannucci and Stewart Lee so I'd like to think my sense of humour is about as black as you can get, but to me it just sounds as if you guys are trying to shock and provoke for it's own sake, which is not very good when you're so quick to label people as humourless when they don't "get it".

I agree Angus,I saw this yesterday,it is really sad that people like this can have children, they should be steralized, they are no good to anyone and WE are supposed to be civilized,I hope this poor little lad has gone into care and will be fostered into a loving, caring home.

I think what really upsets me is the knowledge that, as I type this, there are probably thousands upons thousands of children like this behind closed doors who are at the mercy of scummy useless parents, being subjected to random acts of neglect and cruelty which we never hear about.
I know that little James was a relative of yours and I can still remember how I sobbed when I heard about what had happened to him. At the time my youngest son was the same age and my heart went out to Denise Bulger.
I can laugh about a lot of things, but child cruelty and neglect? NEVER.
FFS!! That's horrible! I have a 3 year old boy and cannot stand even the idea of him being scared or upset like that! It's a mothers insticnt to love and protect, not terrorise!
And for those who think it was probably just "a bit of fun", having fun with a 2 year old involves silly games, toys, books, cartoons, playparks, swimming pools etc, NOT gaffa tape!
Those first few years are childrens formatitive years for gods sake! Why would any parent want to scare and upset a child for their own amusement? It is beyond me! They don't deserve something as precious as a child!
I have friends who are currently paying £6k a time for IVF.. they are absolutely desperate for a child! It's so annoying that there are people out there who are lucky enought to be able to have children and do nothing but abuse/neglect the child!

Well thats wrong. Torturing a child/person/animal is downright evil but sterilising someone isn't exactly the nicest way to go about punishing them is it? Those are strong words..
I think the whole 'lock 'em in prison and throw away the key' is more effective and ethical.

Of course it is...but that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to make some dark-humoured jokes.
Why would you take offence at the comment that you are wired differently to find child cruelty amusing, when it is so obviously a statement of fact?
'Offence'? LOL, it didn't offend me in the slightest - because I know it's not true. So because I have a dark sense of humour, I am now wired differently? Biggest load of bollocks I have ever heard. The James Bulger story sickened me, as did the Fritzl one. Looking at the pictures of this makes me upset as well...but I can take a joke. A joke is a joke...meaning they're not serious...and are to be laughed at. It doesn't mean you're 'wired differently' at all. Utterly ridiculous statement.
I have an extremely dark sense of humour and manage to see humour in most things, but also think that there are subjects and situations that it is very difficult to make a joke of.. child abuse/neglect is one of them.
I went to see Frankie Boyle recently, who I have to say was ****ing hysterical, but unfortunately he tried to make a few jokes about Baby P; you could actually feel the audience recoil! SOme things just should not be laughed at!!

I can and have managed to find some humour even in the direst circumstances, as a kind of anchor of sanity, but there are some things I can honestly say I could never find humour in, and the thought that someone could actually make jokes about the tragic and horrific life of Baby P is beyond disgusting. Frankie Boyle often tries too hard to shock and just comes across as desperate and insensitive.

Yeah, that's exactly what I thought on seeing him live. He was trying to shock a bit TOO much. He can be funny without going OTT, so I don't know why he bothers. He definitely began to lose the audience afew times when I saw him..

Not really. A joke is a joke. A joke. It's that simple, really. If anyone takes a joke seriously [whether it's a knock knock joke or a Fritzl joke] then there's a problem. Because a joke is not meant to be serious, and I seriously cannot stand this assumption that because I laugh or poke fun at something that is 'serious', I am condemning the act that I'm laughing at. I mean...it's...ludicrous. Similar to what kazanne said in this thread. So because I have a dark sense of humour I torture animals? One of the most laughable things I have ever heard in my life.

I like dark humour, but I also have to be surprised or stimulated by a joke, and with regard to many of these "funny" jokes that tread dangerously between what's allowed and not allowed, they just don't contain any real wit, you know?
I mean, one of my fav short jokes is... "how do you stop a dog riding your leg?" "Pick him up and suck him off". It's foul, it's nasty and horrid, but it makes me laugh cuz it's so absurd and surprises me.
Don't know where I'm going with this really, but yeah, alot of these sick jokes are tired and dull really.

But I don't see anyone cracking one liners about this little boy taped to the wall.. I agree a joke is just a joke. But it is one thing laughing at a joke made about something serious to actually laughing a picture of a baby's distress and fear.. You know what I mean?

OK, fair enough.. I syill find it difficult to see any humour in doing this to a defenceless child. It would maybe be funny (well, to some) to see this happen on a stag do or in college or summat, but not to a little boy! He won't see the funny side of it afterwards. Did I say there was? What is funny though is the jokes [let me just drum that word into your head once more - JOKES] made about it. Not the incident that happened, the jokes. Do you get it now? Black humour is a way of dealing with things people dont want to deal directly with. A coping mechanism. Saves the person getting depressed over shocking things, also prevents more serious mental problems.

Of course, I'm not denying it. There is no denying that this is a vile, repulsive, twisted thing to do, of course not. But the jokes that have been made about it are funny. Not the incident, the jokes. There is nothing funny about a young child effectively being tortured, but the comments that have been made are. And the reason why most people find 'dark' jokes funny is because of the shock factor. It's not the incident I'm laughing at, it's just how vulgar and nasty the joke is that's funny.

Why do some people think it's cool and big to joke about this particular incident? Of course, I'm not denying it. There is no denying that this is a vile, repulsive, twisted thing to do, of course not. But the jokes that have been made about it are funny. Not the incident, the jokes. There is nothing funny about a young child effectively being tortured, but the comments that have been made are. And the reason why most people find 'dark' jokes funny is because of the shock factor. It's not the incident I'm laughing at, it's just how vulgar and nasty the joke is that's funny.

something is either funny or it isn't ,
Wrong. Things are funny to different people. It's called differing sense of humours. What's so difficult to understand about that?
So tell us all what was it exactly about THE INCIDENT that was funny?
Nothing about the incident was funny...are you even reading my posts, love?
and yes i guess torture would make YOU laugh.
Then you are evidently deluded.
Hows about telling us some of your 'funny' jokes then,so we can make our own minds up whether we agree with you.
What's the point? You'll just take the moral high ground anyway, regardless of whether you found them funny or not. You like to play devil's advocate.
Exactly, shame some of them aren't taped to a wall and left there!!
To be honest it's comments like this that are nastier than 'sick' jokes themselves. People should be tortured or enjoy torturing people for having a different sense of humour? You are really, really clueless. It's outstanding.

I'm not bothered about them or their 'human rights' I am bothered that a child has suffered for their warped entertainment.
Along with every comment from angus58,this is also a to the point and very strong comment too kazanne from you.
I personally have no symapthy at all or see anything remotely humerous in inflicting suffering of any kind on a child.
It is clear and simple assault, because the child cannot yet understand what fun and hurt may be, and its abuse too.
It os from incidents like this that in the end if unchecked, far more serious things can happen, and they do despite all the reports of child protection and making sure bad things don't happen to children.

Lost for words, are you? Bless :joker:

Okay then, but I know what's coming. Here's a few [recent ones and old]:
My twin sons Craig and Stuart are going to America to audition on the X factor when it starts over there.
"Hi, i'm Craig towers, and i'm Stuart towers... and together we're twin towers"
I've got a feeling they'll go down well.
I called that Rape Advice Line earlier today.
Unfortunately, it's only for victims.
Josef Fritzl is delighted that his sentence has been reduced to 100 hours community service.
He has been ordered to spend it teaching Gerry McCann how to lock a ****ing door.
I bought my daughter the Josef Fritzl advent calendar.
Every time she tries to open a door, I close it and rape her.
Not the best but they're the only ones I could find right now [I forget most of the jokes I read].

I cannot believe people try to vindicate themselves finding this funny by saying "It's the jokes about it that are funny" so what are these jokes?they must be about the boy,so isn't that the same as laughing at what happened,I wonder sometimes what some of these people are on!!! If someone is an adult and a willing participant then yes laugh and joke all you like,But kids.NO.and hello Joey, nice to see you posting again.

Thank you kazanne, and I agree totally with all your comments above, there is nothing remotely funny about this incident at all.

I think its horrifying to think that any scum can have a precious child and have full control of it behind closed doors. God knows how many kids and babies are being badly treated in their own homes, a place they should feel safe.
And its always the worst and most inadequate ones who churn out the most kids. Wish there was a way of preventing certain women from getting pregnant.

It disgusts me that the mother is allowed to have custody of her son back afterwards, what's to stop her doing it again or something worse next time?

Yeah, to me a mother who would do something like this for her own "amusement" is lacking any maternal instinct and that feeling that most parents have, to protect their child. I don't think this is something that can be taught to a person if you don't automatically have it and I would worry about that child being back with her.

The problem is that the care system in most countries is such a massive fail and abuse is such a widespread problem in adoptive families, it means even children with terrible parents are often better off staying where they are.

Unfortunately not better off for society as a whole, who have to suffer the consequences when some (if not all) abused and neglected children grow into angry, hostile and feral adults.

So people who have a dark sense of humour now torture animals?
*****INGLOL, that is a contender for one of the most laughable things I have read anywhere ever.
:joker:
Of course it is...but that doesn't mean people aren't allowed to make some dark-humoured jokes.
Utterly ridiculous statement.
i reckon your the type of guy who wouldnt dare make 'jokes' about sumat like this in real life

Of course, pal, because the only jokes I ever tell people are ones that I have read off Sickipedia. Thankfully most people I know accept that a joke is a joke, and also find them funny. So no, I am the type of guy that would tell jokes like this in real life. A joke is a joke.
I reckon you're a troll, though.
