Mary's an entirely different kettle of fish to Michelle McManus. Mary appeals to a completely different generation and really, why shouldn't that generation be represented? It would be so boring if we were fed the same old bland teen pop with every act... I like that there's a range of people on there and even though I would never buy anything they did, lots of people would.

I love how people are so obsessed with their weight, surely if they can sing then why does it matter? Have we not got enough plastic, anorexic and lifeless popstars out there? Surely when you buy the music, you buy it because they can sing and you like it, not because they are easy on the eye?

I think a lot of those who are obsessed with weight are the same ones obsessed with age. They think all the contestants should be teenagers singing pop songs.

She will not sell records to you, maybe. My parents, however, love Mary! I don't think she's going to win the show, but she's carving out a career for herself and she'll never go back to working on a checkout. There are more people in the UK over 60 than there are under 20. She has a market and she'll do okay. Not everything in the world has to be aimed at one generation.

Tbf thats because they now wait to launch their careers around the following years Xfactor. Like Joe's doing now and Alex did. Which apparently(in theory anyways) gives them time to put together a qaulity album. In the past they would usually throw out any old album filled with covers.

It worked for Leona and Alex. But it does give the losers a chance to get in there first and release their own music. Like JLS did to huge success.
