View Full Version : Joe McElderry flops harder than Leon Jackson
Shaun

His single, 'Ambitions' is currently at Number 8 on the iTunes UK chart.
Even Leon Jackson's debut, 'Don't Call This Love', managed Number 3. This could be embarassing...

lmfao
What a surprise
although, I think physical sales my boost it a lil
He's at #4 in the midweeks so it looks likely
It just goes to show that contrary to popular belief, performing on X Factor doesn't guarantee a #1 irrespective of whether you won the show

Good old Olly seems to have done better than him :)

Overall number 3 isn't actually bad.
He has a great voice unfortunately these producers gave him a not so great song. Some producers need to realize that pop music is no longer what pop music was defined as, with things like steps etc. Pop is now a catchy tune you can dance and sing a long to, with dizzee rascal or tingy striger or however you say his name rapping on the side. Get with the programme people!!
Poor JO. Even Leona's songs are beginning to be crap when she's beyond amazing :(

The song is quite catchy tbh I like it but it's like something out of High School Musical or something.
But his voice sounds so different and screamy.
Better than most the boring sh*t he sang last year.
Don't say Leona is amazing, you'll have MeMyselfandJack at your front door in a second with Leona tickets.

The song is not bad but if they're going to drop someone because they're not getting number ones they better get with the programme!

I think the song itself is actually very good - HOWEVER, it's also a song that was only ****ing released last year! It's shameful. And he's done nothing new or interesting with it...the original is far better: doesn't sound as whiny, and...is an original work of art.

WHAT THE ****?!
Hes currently on course for a top 5 single. How does that make it a flop? For instance say i released a single now and it went top 5 would you all be like "sorry your single only got to number 3 dan" no you wouldnt.
Just coz a song doesnt go number 1 doesnt mean its a flop. This is whats wrong with record companies today. Stop being so cynical

It's not like he hasn't had the opportunity...don't tell me 'what's wrong with record companies today' - the fact this single is being released in the first place IS what's wrong with record companies today.
I'm saying that, for an X Factor winner, and all of the accompanying free promo and fame that's come with that, he's set to be the biggest failure. Whether or not I agree with that is irrelevant.
If YOU released a single and it got to No.3 it would be an amazing achievement, given your glaring lack of country-wide fame, record deal, promotions and television time.

Poor Joe. I feel sorry for him because it's had little airplay, it's been rush released. Hardly ever see it on the music channels and I've never heard it on the radio yet. Olly and Diana's singles were played constantly and they never even won. :(
Good never liked him, an underserving winner in my eyes.

It's a flop in terms of the current chart, if you dont get top spot from Xfactor then you're basically screwed.

Granted - the album sales may be better. But even Leon [i feel mean picking on Leon since he's supposed to be going out with my friend, rofl] managed No.4 in the album charts...
I just can't see Joe lasting. Unfortunately.

I can't see him lasting either, it's by no means a flop and neither was Leon but Syco seem to have pretty high standards...
I personally preferred Leon's 'Don't Call This Love' to 'Ambitions', and I reckon I'll prefer his album to Joe's too...but I'll reserve judgement until I've heard it. It's odd, though, because I couldn't stand Leon on the show and still to this day stand by the fact that Rhydian was robbed, but I quite liked his material after the show [even if a bit of it were covers]. Don't Call This Love, Stargazing, Creative and Fingerprints were all great tracks IMO.

Yeah you pretty much need to have 2 number 1's to be considered as successful.

yeah, considering it'll probably be the lead in single for his album it needs to be a hit and considering how terrible the song is it's not gonna do as well as the last song. The only thing he has potentially working in his favour is an X Factor performance.
Th fact is the single is top 5 lol
NOT A FLOP
Joe will be the first X Factor winner to not have a number 1 amongst his first 2 singles, and Steve aside, his first proper single will be the lowest charting of them all. His series is the most watched on average to date, and Sundays results show was one of the most watched X Factor shows EVER.
In the midweeks, of the singles above him, 2 have been in the chart for a while, 1 is a prevous number 1, 1 is holding onto the #1 slot whilst the other is selling on the artists name alone. How is it anything but a flop?
If he released it without all the X Factor stuff and reached #4 it would be a success but much more is expected of him

I dont get this obsession with how records always have to be a number one for goodness sake,
In decades gone by if you read the guiness book of hit singles and albums, in the 50s,60s,70s,80s and 90s,many of the longest and biggest hitmakers, had records near the top of the charts and others low and in some cases very low.
We have a top 75 in the UK, if a record makes the top 75,even for just 1 week, it is deemed a hit record so if someone can score repeatedly top 5s or top 10s then they should be thought of as doing really well.
Every act cannot always get a number one record.
A top 5 or top 10 is deemed a failure, rediculous.
Also it may be as Jedward fever says, he may be someone who will shift albums more than singles. Too early to right him off.

Joe did get to number one with The Climb, he didn't make it Christmas week but he went to the top spot the next week, to be fair.

There is no doubt Joe is a good singer but in my eyes I don't see him as a recording artist. It seems to be mostly the women who do well after the X Factor. I don't hear Joes song and think wow I must go out and buy that.

I don't like to make excuses for X Factor winners, but no other ones before Joe have had to put up with a bunch of over-zealous Facebookers with a poor grasp of irony ('f__k you I won't do what you tell me')

:D true i guess but still, you would have thought that he would still have beaten them going by all the support he had on the show and how high his winning percentage was.

it was nowhere near as big as joes as afterall the majority of the uk wanted to stop joes song coming in at number 1.

But in that post it clearly says he didn't get to no. 1. He did.
Votes in the X Factor don't always translate into record sales. There have been more failed careers in the X Factor than successful ones.
Currently three X Factor artists are guarenteed to chart: Leona, Alexandra and JLS. That's a poor result.

aw poor old Joe, he has a lovely voice but I think, as they used to say when he was on X-factor he might be better suited to being in theatre or something. Olly was definitely more the pop star there and I'm loving his new single

I thought Joe's ambitions was good.. Guess I'm in a minority
Shayne Ward's single and album has also underachieved (you might say flopped). I think it might be an X Factor thing - having said that - JLS are no. 1.
His an utterly boring vanilla midget. Anyone who sees him as having long term recording success is clearly suffering from delusions.

Poor guy, but we all saw it coming. He does have a fantastic voice, I think he should get onto a stage and ply his wares there, he'll do well.
It's the jungle next year, then.
