Apologies in advance if this has already been asked and answered or if this is simple common knowledge, but I've been downloading this series of X Factor and something has me puzzled.
What is the significance of the two rotating black and white icons in the top corners of the screen when the show approaches commercial break? They usually pop up when Dermot is reading out the numbers to vote. If anybody can tell me what they mean, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Hi welcome, the rotating icon is to do with the fact that the channel that shows X Factor, ITV, is split into different regions, and these regions show their own adverts (and programmes). The icon lets them know that an ad break is coming up so they can get ready their own adverts.

I thought it was because that slot had over run and it means the adverts are late..?

Yes the Americans need that Icon
but of course you never know when the ads are attacking you - out there.
The UK Ad Icon
is great.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I figured it had something to do with the commercial breaks but wasn't sure exactly what.

So far, I'd have to say I really like Matt and Mary. I think this show is interesting because it seems to be separated into two groups, the people that are really talented but don't have tons of traditional mass appeal (John, Trayc, Mary, etc) and people that don't have quite as much pure talent but tons of appeal (Cher, One Direction, Wagner ) I feel like Mary has the most raw talent and she's who I'm hoping will win, but I feel like Matt has the best mix of talent and appeal, so he's probably who I'd pick to bet on. It will be interesting to see if I'm anywhere close with my predictions.
