View Full Version : ________ never been out of the top two in the voting so far [POSSIBLE SPOILER?]

...according to the Daily Star, Mary has never been out of the top two in the voting in the last three weeks, and she topped the vote in Week 1.
X FACTOR wannabes are begging producers NOT to sing alongside Mary Byrne this weekend - because they're convinced she's CURSED.
Every single act that has appeared in the same section of the show as Mary between ad breaks has slumped into the sing-off - or has gone home.
The contestants are convinced Mary's show-stopping performances mean viewers instantly forget the acts around her, and see performing with her as the new "coffin slot" on the show.
And we can exclusively reveal the wannabes are RIGHT to be concerned - with the Irish Tesco worker storming the public vote thanks to her countrymen supporting her in their millions.
The 50-year-old has never been out of the top two in the voting, and was the runaway leader in Week One when she sang James Brown's It's A Man's Man's Man's World.
Scary Mary's "curse" hit Nicolo Festa, 21, and Katie Waissel, 24, in Week One, when they both sang in Part Six of the show with Mary. Nicolo, who sang immediately after Mary, came last in the public vote, while Katie was saved in the sing-off.
In Week Two she and Belle Amie sang in Part Eight, with the girl band ending in the sing-off. And last weekend it was well-fancied Treyc Cohen, 25, who had to be saved by the judges after starring in Part Five with Mary.
One show source revealed: "You know the phrase 'follow THAT' - well that's how everyone feels coming on after Mary.
"She's pulling votes in by the million and is the surprise package of the show so far. It's spelling bad news for anyone who has to compete with her for the audience's attention.
"After all four of her rivals being jinxed, there's certainly no rush to be the one who tries to break the hoodoo.
"It used to be going first that was seen as the worst slot but many acts would happily go first if it meant keeping Mary away from them."
The running order is decided in the run-up to the show by senior producers, including Simon Cowell. Acts singing late in the show get more votes that those singing at the start, so the order has long been controversial among fans.
Sounds pretty likely to me. I reckon Matt, Aiden and Rebecca have been joining her in the top four.

Ugh. Thats just sad.
What a crap winner she'd be. Can't imagine anybody being excited waiting for her record releases.
And Simon would be disgusted I reckon.

i don't even think she'll be in the top 4.

Great voice but a one trek pony I'm afraid. People will bore of her :/ Already heard her tell people she'll sing what SHE wants and nothing else. Not the right attitude.....

LOL...
I think some people on this forum forget that the XFactor is watched by a wide range of people, some even old enough to buy their own TV licence. Plenty of them will think that Mary is great and love her kind of music. I don't see what's so bad about all generations being represented, do you?

The curse is an interesting read but I'm not sure about her not leaving the top 2 of the voting every week

I can't see why it couldn't be true. IIRC [and from what I've read on DS], last year the Daily Star correctly reported that Rachel had topped the vote in Week 3, and that Danyl had topped the vote in Week 1.

Where are Wagner's votes coming from though....lol
The running order IS important though. So far, Becky has twice been the first girl on in 3 weeks. On t'other hand Katie has been the LAST girl on each week, and last week was last on out of the whole lot!! Favouritism or what?

at the end of the day though only one person is going to win so it doesn't matter that much which order they go in, the top 3 or 4 will be there till the end anyhow no matter who they sing before or after

she would actually be the worst winner ever
she is so boring.. and she just shouts tbh
and she doesnt exactly look like a pop star
she wouldnt get any other support outside her voters because she is too old and just ugly

I disagree; in the early weeks it definitely helps to not be amongst the first few acts to perform, if you can land yourself a performance near the end each week it'll do you more favours. Obviously once people have decided their favourites, that settles things, but people generally don't pick favourites until a week or two into the competition. I still don't have a favourite!
Anyway, I'm really pleased for Mary if this is true, she deserves to be doing well! I wonder if her being in the top two has anything to do with the Irish finally being allowed to vote in the X Factor again...?

Seriously Jack? personally I listen to music because I like the sound of it, I really couldn't care less what age, size or how pretty the person singing is.

Well, I meant at this stage Greg, I think most people have their favourites by now.
And I don't actually think Ireland being able to vote has effected Marys success much. You can see yourself how popular she is in the studio and there would be mainly UK people in there

I'm generally not one to buy into the "national pride vote" that Louis Walsh in particular raves on about, because Scottish people are generally miserable, depressive and do the exact opposite of what someone tells them to do rofl. But whenever there's an Irish act, Louis always supports them like mad, and I think national pride is a lot stronger in Ireland when it comes to the X Factor, especially now that they can vote again... I dunno, just a theory!

hhmmm, I don't know, I have no doubt that some people would do that but by and large I think that most Irish people will just vote for their favourite, I know all the people that I know who watch it like Mary but she's not their favourite and won't be getting their vote (me included!)

The stats so far prove that the acts who have sung first or second have, in most cases, been in trouble. Katie was due to sing at the start in the second week, but played her face up and got it changed. Mary is doing well, so is matt, so is becky but lets be honest....... Cowell and co. would just love the final 3 to be Katie, Cher, and One Direction......

But Cher is contemporary and mixes up her styles. You can see where she would fit in todays charts.
Mary is just a straight up karaoke singer who wants to bang out the standards. Sorry but I dont think a show called the Xfactor should be seeking a winner as predictable and tedious as that.

mixes up her styles??? what does that even mean, she looked like she was doing the exact same thing to me every week, sing averagely and rap badly

I wasn't referring to her winning, I was referring to the part where you stated 'she wouldn't get any other support outside her voters' - so I'm assuming you meant no one would buy her music, in which case I referred to Susan Boyle, because people do buy her music. It had nothing to do with who won/will win/won't win.

she sings, she raps, she moves.
Mary does only one of those things and its hardly original. I doubt the world is crying out for another album of cover versions of all the standard classics! Zzzz.
I dont see any great personality either.

That is a fascinating insight and one I have often thought about. I always wondered if the final act (no matter who) is getting more votes simply for the fact they are the last remembered (freshest in the mind) when the lines open.
I did not considered that someone following or preceding a favourite gets a sort of 'relative appearance' beat-down. Ouch!
Producers may be able to put some sorts of balances? When they give the audience the 'review' at the end they may reverse order of appearance or mix the order?
"Remember these acts [show the faces, clips, names numbers back to front]"
Then it is up to the voters to do the right thing and keep in mind each to their own merits.
But obviously this works for Producers too... for example if you want to get a Cher to the end - you know where to put her.
Interesting article.
Not surprised Mary is at the top - I think she is great too.
