No, really, the Pyramid Head is something beyond what all the other characters are.

Now that I think about it, it's pretty much exactly what Gandalf said about the Balrog. "This foe is beyond any of you."
Only in this case, there's no wizard to mess up the Balrog. The Pyramid Head serves a specific purpose and is invulnerable, unless it inflicts damage upon itself. If a Pyramid Head is not killing itself, it will proceed to kill and rape everything else..... Forever.
