A TEN-year-old girl has become one of the world's youngest mums.
She gave birth to a 6.3lb baby in a hospital in Spain.
The father is also a youngster - though his age is being kept secret.
Shocked officials are deciding if the girl and her family can keep the baby. Her mum apparently told hospital staff in the city of Jerez de la Frontera that her daughter "lived with her boyfriend" in their native Romania. She claimed that giving birth at such a young age was common in their country.
A hospital source said: "Girls can appear older than they are, but in this case the girl is just a girl." The region's social affairs minister Micaela Navarro refused to reveal the sex or health of the baby. She said: "The important thing is that mother and baby are cared for."
The world's youngest mum, Lina Medina from Peru, gave birth at FIVE years, seven months and 21 days in 1939. Britain's youngest mum, Tressa Middleton, had a girl at 12 in 2006 in West Lothian.

Puperty can happen early, there is a name for it, but if the doctors catch it in time they can give you meds to prevent it I think.

It says her father was arrested (Lina Medina) on suspicion of rape and incest, but was later released due to lack of evidence.

I wish we knew who the father was to Lina Medina's baby!!
Could have been her father? Or someone else.
The baby she gave birth too at the age of 5 died when he was 40! :(
Lina Medina is still alive today!! and also has another child now. (Well he is in adult now. In his late 30's)

"A mother whose 10-year-old daughter has given birth to a baby has said the family are "very happy" despite an international outcry.
The woman, who gave her name only as Olimpia, said she was surprised the birth of her granddaughter in Spain had made headlines around the world.
"She's doing well and is very happy with her daughter," she said of her child.
The woman, who Spanish authorities have described as a Romanian gypsy, told reporters the baby's father is a 13-year-old.
He lives in Romania and the young couple have since split up, she added.
She has been photographed shielding the 10-year-old girl, named Eleanor, from the cameras in the street in Spain.
The child and Nicoletta, her newborn, are living with their family while social services investigate.
Her mother told reporters in the southern town of Lebrija that it is traditional for Romanian girls to have unofficial wedding ceremonies when they are very young even though they are not recognised by the state.
"That's the way we get married," she said.
The Spanish authorities have not released many details about the girl to protect her privacy. It is understood she moved to the country in the last month.
Spain considers sex with someone under the age of 13 child abuse. But an anonymous official from the Justice Ministry said it was not yet clear if the boy can be charged as he is only 13 and in Romania."

at least they'll be able to share experiences of puberty because they'll be going through it at the same time
in all seriousness both of them kids are gonna be seriously ******ed up, if the 10 year olds parents have any sense they'll bring the baby up as theirs and it should just be its mums "sister" if that makes any sense (a bit like Kat & Zoe in Eastenders :p)
