Apologies if there is already a thread on this, but does anybody else think that Louis' comparing paije to Lenny Henry was bizarre, if not a little offensive?

depends how you take it I suppose. If he said it because they're both chubby and black then yeah or else it could be cos they're both happy, fun loving types

well my reaction was what the hell, he s nothing like lenny and think it was only because they were black and it was bordering on racism a little bit, i know he probably didn't mean it that way but as my mother always said think before you speak, something i haven't perfected yet ;)

Louis does tend to come out with some bizarre things though, that's why I love him:joker:

Yeah, that was my reaction too.. I don't really think it was racist, but he more or less said you're fat, black and jolly. If he had compared him to a another black SINGER, I wouldn't have even thought about it, but to say he was just like Lenny Henry imo, was completely random and a wee bitty crappy :)

It's only deemed racist when a black person is compared to another black person, never when a white person is compared to another white person!

No.
It was a good comparison and not because they have a kind of physical similarity but more for the sort of 'big but agile' and actually a kind of encouraging 'unapologetic' attitude about their weight and freely dancing, jumping about and moving enthusiastically.

It is complimentary and was accurate in that sense it was connecting them.

Another good example might be Chubby Checker or The Big Bopper (maybe staying with singer-dancers is a better idea).

Yeah, that's my point actually..

I'd have said Chubby Checker and the reason being that Paige was doing some old-skool rock-bebop (sorta, kinda) performance and they have similar builds yet were both 'apologetically' getting their dance on.

Now.. I'm going by faded memory now.. but I actually did think Lenny Henry was known for dancing?
Why do I think that?
Maybe because Louis put that in my mind or was one of his things to dance and boogie around to songs and on chat shows??

Whatever happened to him anyways? Is he still doing television?

I've seen him a couple of times.. I think just on Comic Relief etc though. Him and Dawn have just divorced recently too :(
