View Full Version : Westlife single flops

I think No8 counts as a flop considering its a new single from a new album. And Joe was considered a flop when he entered at No6. Plus they also had the XF appearance to aid them along with numerous other TV appearances.
I think its an awful overblown ballad and the video is so laughably OTT.
Congrats to JLS on another No1(maybe) and to Ellie for rocketing up 35 places!
midweek chart(it may well change a bit by sunday but not much)

When your a boyband thats been around that long, singles don't really matter, it's about Album sales
Locke.

The album will still go platinum and the single will stick around in the top 40 for longer than 3 weeks, which is how long Joe's lasted.

of course they do. Theyre an indicator of popularity.
Singles dont matter financially but they are advertising tools for albums. I dont think this first single is gonna do sales of their album any big favours.

No they don't not really, top 10 isn't too bad, they have a stable fanbase so their album will do fine regardless

Whoever bought that shocking Black Eyed Peas song needs to go and see someone about their hearing (well the bit that isn't murdering a song thats impossible to murder is quite good)

yes they do. Theyre soon quick to go on about all their (forgettable) No1s so they should acknowledge their flops too!
And their fanbase is clearly on the demise.

Its called good taste. JLS actually have personality and move around on stage. Theyre proper performers who mix it up.
How anybody could possibly get excited about 4 dull guys who just stand there singing the same old overblown ballads and cover versions has always baffled me.
Theyve contributed nothing whatsoever to music.

But JLS have? :joker:
I'm not even a westlife fan. but westlife >>> JLS
And the JLS single is the children in need single, that's pretty much a guaranteed #1

I would slag Westlife off but TT didn't get a number one either and they've just sold 1.34 million tour tickets and 305k albums so yeah whatever.

well theyre 10 times more entertaining to watch unless youre a bored middle aged housewife who just loves her MOR ballads and static performers.
And JLS have only been around for 1-2 years compared to 12 years of Westlife. Do they ever get any credit for their music and contribution to music? No. Because nobody even takes them seriously as a musical force. Theyve never had any musical ambition and are just like Boybots put together purely to make money by appealing to gullible girls and soppy females generally. A cold cynical business force.
At least JLS have a more mixed aged fanbase of boys and girls. They mix up the tempo and actually have a contemporary, relevent sound.

Your point?
every artist misses the top 90 in some countries so your point is silly and irrelevent. The US charts is full of US acts who cant get hits outside of America. Do you think they give a sh!t? No. Because ultimately acts want to do well in their own country. Thats where they concentrate their energy.
Unless you seriously think that Cheryl wakes up in the middle of the night sweating and panicking that she's not top 10 in Belgium?

I'm no fan of Westlife at all [infact I find them terribly dull], but I have to admit I genuinely think their new track is one of their best ever. Very catchy.
Lets see if JLS are still here and as succesful as Westlife in 12 years time, somehow I doubt they will be

LOL. Like Im the first to point out an artists failures?
And coming from somebody who has written many a hateful and spiteful post yourself you really need to be quiet with your sanctimonious, righteous crap.

phoney. For the record, I cant stand Westlife but I dont see why it matters.
To starts threads pointing out that an artists single has flopped seems pointless to me but you seem to enjoy it so more power to you. You dont point out an artist failure. You gloat about it. Theres a big difference.
Zip, I used to think you were taking the p*ss. Making up warped views just to wind people up, but now after the gloating Nadine thread last week, I think you're deadly serious. You do actually believe the stuff you post. That makes me very very nervous.

I don't think it is a flop.
JLS are doing well for themselves, something I didn't think would happen from their performances on The X Factor.
I think every single they've released has got to number one or at least in the top 10.
Good to see Black Eyed Peas there too. Will have to try and download their song and have a listen as I like their music.
Zippy, how would you react if someone started a thread a thread like this, but with Cheryl? Just food for thought.
I do think Westlife are boring, though, but they're a big boy band and I particularly like one of their recent songs.
Niamh.

are you serious? I see Cheryl hate every day on this site. Doesnt bother me that much but Ill still stick up for her when I can be arsed.
I start one thread pointing out a flop and suddenly all the Westlife fans come scurrying out the closet to protest! Hilarious.
And it certainly is a flop so there. Barely scraping in the top 10...

maybe they should go back to cover versions after all.

people just aren't interested in vocal groups anymore. they should think about gimmicks other than sitting on a stool and getting up when the song gets louder.

yes, they look very dated and sad now.
With JLS bouncing around the stage Westlife suddenly look old and tired. Well actually they did in the first place; 4 Ronan Keatings...all born middle aged.

Westlife have a much older fanbase who unlike teens dont download every single but instead wait and buy the full album.
Therefor in Westlifes case chart positions of singles are not really that big a deal. Its all about the album.

LOL. So much for the album theory being spouted about by some on this thread.
Like I said, a single is still an indicator of popularity and this one has done much worse than their others. And its the first track too so it should be right up there. But its flopped and no surprise to me their album is now selling well below their usual.
Im tempted to start another flop thread but I dont want to overgloat.

Their star is (thankfully) fading. They'd have flopped long before this if it wasn't for the X Factor.
Their shelf life expired a few years ago, they've just been kept afloat by annual appearances on the X Factor to remind people they still exist, I think I'm right in saying they took a break for a year and this is their comeback - worst thing they could have done was to take a break, I think this is probably the end of Westlife, go out on a relative high. They've been around for a long time, credit is due for their longevity when you consider the idea of the band should really have only lasted a couple of years. I feel bad for them, but I've never been a fan of their music so I can't say I care too much ultimately.
