well this is one Im sorry about because I really like their new stuff...especially Shine a light. Unlike Pondlife theyre actually fun, lively and ambitious. And young.

Not sure it was wise to release the album up against Take that though. And many other new albums(all new top 5 this week).

No16 midweek so not too great. Is this the beginning of the end for McFly?

He's a devoted Cheryl stan :bored: he's taking any opportunity to take a swipe at artists who have released material in the past couple of weeks, that aren't doing as well as her.

Fair enough. In answer to the question - nah, doubt they're finished. They have a very strong fanbase.

Actually Ive never bought a Cheryl record in my life or followed her music or whatever to any great degree. I defend her here a lot because she gets attacked non stop in the most banal idiotic way.

And try reading the OP; I clearly say I like them so its not gloating at all. Im actually disappointed for them. As far as boybands go they are great and way above the normal standards. A real band who love music.

Thanks for the pointless thread :)

Its only pointless if McFly are of no interest. Just like every other music thread could be deemed pointless.

And considering half your post count is Gaga spam I dont think youre in any position to talk about pointless postings.

Kisses.

Hmmm........................ I think you'll find all their real fans got their album on November 1st, for free.

Every member of their website got it on November 1st as a download, and could buy the physical copy if they wished this week! They know it won't chart high, but they felt giving the album away exclusively on McFly.com to real fans before the general public was more important than a chart position.

Just yanno, an FYI.

Ah, YES! That's right, 1 fan keeps the wholeeee band going? Welllll believeable.

Shine a Light was one of their highest selling singles! So obviously they do have alot of fans :|

No offence to Nicky but they were never going to be around forever, they were part of the heavily hyped popbands that are irrelavant now.

You have to admit though that their day is over. They were never going to be around forever, no matter how good they were at their thing. That 'thing' [namely light hearted, baby faced, dopey pop rock] is not built to last purely down to the fact that most of the initial audience they attracted will grow out of it.

well thats not very clever.

Truth is, low chart positions could mark the end of their record deal. And the end of them as a band.

To be fair it can be done good with ... you know, proper bands. Nine Inch Nails done it. And Radiohead sort of done it.

Both were very well received.

Considering they have their own record label..... it's kinda impossible to be dropped.

anddddd not very clever? Their fans are more important to them than chart positions! Shine a Light reached #4 without much promo... so tbh, I think they did very well! Also, that's the point, they're leaking it themselves; saves others leaking it. Simple.

and they're amazing live. If you're not there, you don't know. I've seen them 12 times, they're fantastic.

I like their new stuff and think they actually sound good live the times Ive seen them on TV. But all popbands are ultimately judged by their chart positions. Especially young bands like them.

If they struggle to sell albums then they will lose money now they have their own label. Giving away free stuff is all well and good but low chart positions is not great for their image as it makes them look like fails. And irrelevent compared to the new upcoming boybands. Thats the field theyre in and its very competitive.

I also think that if a product is quality then giving it away for free kinda devalues it and makes it seem cheap and worthless. They should be proud to charge for their music if they believe in it and fans should be happy to pay for their efforts. Thats what fan support is all about.

And you can't be bragging about their single charting high and then imply that a low album position is not important. Either you think chart positions matter or you don't. They will not last long if they continue to chart low. It's demoralising apart from anything else.

Nicky.

Well you have to pay to sign up to their website, they've made thousands on it, so it's not like they're not making money for it. If they cared about chart positions... they wouldn't realeas it like this. They gave their last album away free with the paper... so it kinda adds up.

and I don't care, but obviously everyone on here does, so I just brought it into it. Jeeeeez.

At the end of the day, it's pretty clear nobody here likes them, but I do! So let others have an opinion. (:

well if you stop being so damn defensive for 2 seconds you may notice that Ive actually said I like them! jeeeez indeed.

if they didnt care about chart positions then they wouldnt do promo work. Which they certainly do when they release new stuff.

Yea, but by giving it to fans, it's bound to leak online so no it isn't clever and I saw them on Loose Women, Paul O Grady & Daybreak, so they'll have probably been on a lot of other shows too

I like McFly. They have alot of fans and I think they're one of these bands that don't have to get #1's to still be around. They get quite alot of top 10's and that's a good achievement these days.

I like them too! Despite this thread.

But number 20 is not a great debut, frankly. They need to wise up with their strategy.
