View Full Version : Ban the joke acts?

We've had a few over the years - has the joke worn thin now? I say this as someone who likes Wagner but disliked Jedward; both have/had a significant impact on the show and cause/caused a lot of controversy and garner more haters than fans it seems: should they stop putting joke acts through in future? Personally I think they should get rid of them; Louis Walsh is to blame for both of those creations and will no doubt do the same next year if he's lumped with a rubbish category again. What do you think?

Louis could've put through that girl who sang really well but he didn't.
I used to think he was really funny but he needs to go I think.

I dunno, I think credible artists (in the context of the X Factor) can be entertaining too - Katie's I Wan'na Be Like You was good fun; in my view it should be a talent competition, not 11 or 15 good singers and one joke act that's costing good singers a place in the finals.

Yea I agree completely.

tbh if Wagner got to the final, or, god forbid, even won the show, I think louis should be sacked, he doesn't take the show seriously at all, the past two years he's poven this by putting **** acts through over decent ones.

If these "robbed" acts weren't popular enough to beat the novelty acts then it isn't looking good for any future career. no point in giving them false hope. the joke acts provide light relief from the drama of the show (sometimes even adding to it) and always provide a good talking point. Last year wouldn't have been as successful if it wasn't for Jedward (and indeed they're the most successful act from last year full stop) whilst this year wouldn't be as watched if it wasn't for wagner (people watching to see if he finally goes)

Why should Louis be sacked? All the judges played a part in Wagner getting to judges houses, and since the live shows it has been the public keeping him in :/

Because Louis is the one stupid enough to put them into the live shows

Now it seems he and Dannii are the only honest judges :(

Louis is the best judge there :nono:

Simon already got rid of him once and it didn't work without him. Dannii & Cheryl haven't appeared wih no noticable difference

Absolutely right Vicky, no reasom Louis should be sacked at all,It also seems the public like these acts like Wagner in the competition too.

He thinks Wagner performs well, he's clearly as much a bull ****ter as Cheryl and Simon

Louis is awful, the only reason it didn't work was because noone knew who Brian Friedman was

Just Simon and Louis really; I don't know where Wagner auditioned so Cheryl may have contributed - but Dannii had no say in him getting to the live shows at least. Who knows, maybe Simon even said no at Wagner's audition and he got outnumbered?

Well use jedward (another joke act) as an example then :p

The majority (if not all...I dont remember) voted them through.

Louis is the most entertaining judge there is. It didn't work because there was no entertainment...

Err, no thats complete and utter bollocks, Brian was axed because he didn't feel comfortable on the judging panel, and it's not like you'd know whether there was entertainment, he was axed prior to broadcast, so you can't judge whether he was entertaining or not.

No Brian was axed because Sharon didn't feel comfortable and missed Louis which then had a knock-on effect on Simon, Dannii and Brian. Brian was then axed to ensure the balance of males/females was equal and because Simon thought Dannii had more potential and was more comfortable in the role. But it was Sharon that first complained.

And no he wasn't axed prior to broadcast...he appeared for a good first half/three quarters of the first audition show, and was then replaced by Louis. And it wasn't working at all - there was no entertainment.

Louis might be a dopey, loud mouthed fool but without him the show would be a lot less entertaining. That's a fact.

So your saying sharon felt more uncomfortable with Brian on the pannel than she did with Dannii, even though she often openly slags her off
And he was axed prior to broadcast in the sense that he only had one audtion show, and he was axed before that audition show aired. And it would have been his first round of auditions he would have been nervous.

Louis is in no way entertaining, he's a moron

There are countless other people who could replace Louis and ensure he would not be missed.

Yes, but it's about time Simon grew some balls. **** or get off the pot. Either try to ***** Cheryl or get your head from her arse and make some proper decisions.

Louis is always given the worst group and tbh I think his only chance of keeping some acts in is by picking a novelty act. Even if he had picked the strongest acts at judges houses they still wouldn't have been able to compete with the much stronger girls and boys category where as the novelty act always hangs on in there till close to the end.

The series 4 panel just didn't work full stop and arguably noone knew who Dannii Minogue was before X Factor other than Kylie's crap sister. Sharon Osbourne was fantastic but she has to be alpha female and that was a role she was stripped of that year, and as a result her negativity affected the rest of the panel.

There are countless other people who could replace Louis and ensure he would not be missed.

I doubt it. Louis is just a grumpy old man who sits on the end wittering on about nothing and its funny. Simon would replace him with someone credible (ish) and it would take that entertainment value away. It might be good for the contestants but a panel where they're all giving constructive criticism and getting along would have zero entertainment value. Cheryl & Dannii are the only ones that can be ditched imo.

I totally agree, prefer the mix of fun and seriousness:joker:.

Yes but the final decision is down to the producers:p, they knew that Jedward and Wagner would divide opinions, cause controversy and get the show more press/ratings, they're raking in money for the producers so in a business sense I don't blame them;).
