Minaj's debut album, Pink Friday was released on November 19, 2010. A buzz single, "Massive Attack", was released in April. In August, Minaj released "Your Love" as the first official single from her debut album. The single peaked at 14 on the Billboard Hot 100, 7 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and topped the Rap Songs chart. Minaj became the first female artist to top the chart unaccompanied since 2002. In October 2010, Minaj became the first artist to have seven songs on the Billboard Hot 100 chart simultaneously

I'm a bit disappointed with her. Some of the lyrics in Roman's Revenge are so homophobic it's quite sad because in the past she has been a supporter of gay rights and talked about ending homophobia in rap music, and I feel like she's sold out to fit in, in the hip-hop industry. It was with Eminem, so I should have expected it. But I just thought she was different.

Pair will debut their video collaboration during awards pre-show

Rihanna and Nicki Minaj will premiere the video for their collaboration ‘Fly’ at this Sunday’s MTV Video Music Awards (August 28).

The video for the track, which features on Minaj’s debut LP ‘Pink Friday’, is set to be shown for the first time during the awards pre-show, which takes place in Los Angeles this weekend.

Earlier this year, Minaj spoke to E! News about the video and said:

We’re going to save the world in more ways than one with the video and that’s all I can say about that… I love Ri-Ri! I mean, when she’s not grabbing my ass she’s a real sweet girl.

Adele will also make her VMA's debut at this year’s ceremony, with her video for ‘Rolling In The Deep’ nominated for seven awards, while Lil Wayne will also perform on the eve of the release of his new album 'Tha Carter IV', which hits shelves on August 29.

Legendary crooner Tony Bennett will also be present to pay tribute to Amy Winehouse by performing a rendition of the song ‘Body And Soul’, the track he recorded with the late singer for his forthcoming duets album. Adele and Lady Gaga are expected to join Bennett onstage for the performance.

Speaking of the planned tribute, Winehouse’s father Mitch said:

"Our family is honored that the VMA's are giving Amy this wonderful tribute. We know that Amy's performance of 'Rehab' at the MTV Movie Awards played an important part in Amy's worldwide success."

Chris Brown is also due to perform at this year's ceremony, while Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Bruno Mars, Kanye West and Pitbull are all expected to attend.

Well, thank God for the people at Out Magazine who finally asked the question I’ve been wanting to ask Nicki Minaj since I first heard her collab with Eminem on Pink Friday: “When Pink Friday came out last fall, a lot of people were upset about Eminem’s use of the word “fa'ggot” on your track ‘Roman’s Revenge.’ What’s your take on it?”

I mean, THANK YOU! I can’t tell you how upset I was that Eminem isn’t done (violently) gay-bashing in his songs (even though he says he’s pro-gay marriage,) but I don’t know how Nicki, who is rumored to be bisexual and has a very large gay fan base, allowed a track to be on her album with that kind of language.

Here’s what Nicki had to say:

“You know, if I’m being honest, I didn’t like [him using it]. I spoke to everyone I knew about it. I spoke to my hairdresser, who’s one of my closest friends. I sat him down and said, “Terrence, what do you think about this? How does this make you feel?” And we had a long, long talk. And he said he didn’t feel like Eminem was talking about a gay person. He felt like it was a word being used to describe a straight man, and he didn’t take offense to it. It’s Eminem — I felt like we were creating a movie. And in the same way, I feel like if you were to watch your favorite actor or actress say “******” or say “******” in a movie, you don’t hate them because it’s like they’re playing a role. “Roman’s Revenge” was more like a theatrical piece. I was a character and [Eminem] was a character. This was Slim Shady and Roman. Of course, when it comes to creativity, there’s such a thin line between creativity and something being offensive. But one thing I knew for sure was that my gay fan base knows about how I feel about them, and I’ve embraced them from the beginning — since my mix-tape days. [Reaching out to gay fans wasn't something I did] once I came into pop culture just to try and get some extra fans. So I felt like the positive would outweigh the negative, and we just kept moving with that”

I don’t think it’s fair to say that Terrance, Nicki’s gay hairdresser, has the final words on all things gay, but I will kinda sorta accept this answer. Both rappers are very theatrical in their verses, and both utilize a whole range of characters. And the entire song is told from the perspective of “Roman,” Nicki’s most angry and vicious character, who just so happens to be gay. Or so she says.

Nicki Minaj has confessed that she is worried about the length of time it is taking her to release her new music video.

The rapper unveiled her new single 'Starships' on February 14, but only filmed the accompanying visual in Hawaii in mid-March, with the full clip yet to premiere.

Minaj is expected to sell between 200,000 and 225,000 copies of the album during its first week on sale, reports Billboard.

Nicki Minaj's "Starships" video will finally see the light of day.

The rapper, currently embarking on an overseas promotional run, announced that the visual depiction of the official lead single off Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded will be released this week.

"It's officially done today," Minaj told the U.K.'s KISS FM. "We just gotta turn it in and then the network will look and see if they have to take anything out," she explained.

Minaj's videos have come under fire before. Last year BET banned her "Stupid H*e" video over explicit content, a move which the 29-year-old has become all too familiar with.

"They give me such a hard time with my videos. They really do…but hopefully Tuesday, Wednesday at the latest."
