I'm taking extent of fame into account. Her position in culture saddens me. You don't get there by winning a dodgy talent show.

And no. Not at all. Initial discovery being a product of luck may have played a part in the rise of many celebrities, but most of them then contributed their end of the bargain. Namely talent, inventiveness, intuition, creativity, hard work ... you know. All those crazy ass facets lost of the vast majority of the typecast noughties celebrity.

Thats more to do with the media coverage rather than the people involved. There is no blame for putting people in such a position other than with the "journalists". Cheryl is completely irrelevant in her position, shes just the latest figure symbolising rags to riches but her media star is starting to wane and the next one will be along shortly (most likely Stacey Solomon after her stint on IAC). That isn't something wrong with Cheryl at all.
